QB

Troy Aikman
Steve Beurlein/Bernie Kosar/Rodney /Jason Garrett

Tony Romo
Dak Prescott

Not that far off in comparison. Remember, there were times when Aikman missed games or parts of games. The backup was important.....

.....but not that important. In the 4 games that Beurelein started, he completed less than 50% of his passes. Meanwhile, Emmitt has 100 yard games in three of them. The opponent scores more than 14 in only one of them.

Kosar loses his only regular season start, Peete throws a total of 17 passes while Emmitt runs roughshod in his only start.

And Jason's Thanksgiving victory? Emmitt Smith 38 touches for a total of 228 yards.

You see, when the nackups played the rest.of the team stepped up, especially the running game. Last years backups werent terrible, but they were forced to be Romo-like due to the failure of an established running game until too late. The QB's received no support from the rest of the team and that is why the Cowboys lost.

However, I would submit that the Cowboys are in better shape now at QB than in the 90's because their backup will improve each year, he is not an aged vet with deteiorating skills and he is not a free agent career 3rd stringer.

TE

Jay Novacek

Jason Witten

Love Novacek but..c'mon man.

Receivers
Michael Irvin
Alvin Harper
Kelvin Martin

Dez Bryant
Terrance Williams
Cole Beasley

Love Irvin who made his first Pro Bowl in his 4th season...just like Dez. Williams os a.better complement than Harper, Beaseley just as good as Martin.

Offensive line

90's team versus this seasonI?

Erik Williams vs Tyron Smith
Stepnoski vs Fredericks?
Martin vs Newton?

Kicker: 90's kicker vs You Know Who?

RB

Emmitt Smith

ZEKE
Morris
McFadden

Emmitt misses a game, the Cowboys lose.

The current.team had a little depth, wouldnt you agree?

Bottom line, what did the 90's offense have that this team doesn't?

I dare to compare.

I will compare defenses later.....after a few more beers.

A Defense and a HC who knew how to win.
I thought that obvious.
Sometimes I think some forget...not sure how, but it happens

I agree with OP on one side of the ball though.

What evidence do you have that says Garrett knows how to win?
evidence ?my god man, have you ever made your way sizing up and making judgements based on what you see in a man or animal.
If you run your life on evidence thats fine you'll get there but you wont get there first

You'll need a lot more beers before you start comparing the defenses

We're at hard liquor/absinthe levels now. Great effort by OP though and our O's are similar (better at WR/would take Novacek's receiving skills over Witten's blocking at his age) though Zeke has yet to prove he is our new Emmitt, and Romo's age/back concerns when compared to a young Aikman. I think even the 90's O would have to be a bit more creative than they were in the modern league w/excessive film study implemented, data metrics, and exotic packages/blitzes to counter our simplicity. O/D's rarely "just line up" anymore unless you're the Cowboys :D. OP did say he would address the D later.

I'll ask again.
What evidence do you have that Garrett knows how to win?

Exactly
I laugh at these people looking for evidence that Garrett is a great HC and winner
That is like saying "I don't believe in the tooth fairy or Santa Claus because there is no evidence they exist"
Cmon guys, how can you be so blind?

The two team are not even comparable. The 90's teams knew how to win. Romo's teams get shell shocked when he is not in the lineup and play totally flat.

Heck Barry Switzer knew how to win with that team too. Id go out on a limb and say even our coach in training Jason Garrett could get a superbowl out of that team. Jimmy didnt win anything in Miami. Make no mistake I loved Jimmy but he was cooking with all the right ingredients.

Besided the obvious DEFENSE the 90s team had, I have to point out Aikman, Irvin, and Smith all seemed to have an other wordly instinct to win, ala Jordan. Big players making big plays in big games.
