QB
Troy Aikman
Steve Beurlein/Bernie Kosar/Rodney /Jason Garrett
Tony Romo
Dak Prescott
Not that far off in comparison. Remember, there were times when Aikman missed games or parts of games. The backup was important.....
.....but not that important. In the 4 games that Beurelein started, he completed less than 50% of his passes. Meanwhile, Emmitt has 100 yard games in three of them. The opponent scores more than 14 in only one of them.
Kosar loses his only regular season start, Peete throws a total of 17 passes while Emmitt runs roughshod in his only start.
And Jason's Thanksgiving victory? Emmitt Smith 38 touches for a total of 228 yards.
You see, when the nackups played the rest.of the team stepped up, especially the running game. Last years backups werent terrible, but they were forced to be Romo-like due to the failure of an established running game until too late. The QB's received no support from the rest of the team and that is why the Cowboys lost.
However, I would submit that the Cowboys are in better shape now at QB than in the 90's because their backup will improve each year, he is not an aged vet with deteiorating skills and he is not a free agent career 3rd stringer.
TE
Jay Novacek
Jason Witten
Love Novacek but..c'mon man.
Receivers
Michael Irvin
Alvin Harper
Kelvin Martin
Dez Bryant
Terrance Williams
Cole Beasley
Love Irvin who made his first Pro Bowl in his 4th season...just like Dez. Williams os a.better complement than Harper, Beaseley just as good as Martin.
Offensive line
90's team versus this seasonI?
Erik Williams vs Tyron Smith
Stepnoski vs Fredericks?
Martin vs Newton?
Kicker: 90's kicker vs You Know Who?
RB
Emmitt Smith
ZEKE
Morris
McFadden
Emmitt misses a game, the Cowboys lose.
The current.team had a little depth, wouldnt you agree?
Bottom line, what did the 90's offense have that this team doesn't?
I dare to compare.
I will compare defenses later.....after a few more beers.
