i guess i'll never understand why this is such a popular "myth" people lob out all the time.

yes last year we drafted a TE in the 2nd. the last time we did that? 2006. the time before that? 1997. then i stopped looking at 1980.

so we've done it three times, yet it's a fascination for a lot of people to make it seem like we do it every year when we've done it so little in 24+ years.

It fuels the Jerry hate agenda crowd.

We can all hope that Bass makes waves, but that just goes along with all of the other "hope" along the line. Hope that Selvie can continue being respectable, hope that Melton can return to form, hope ththats what they said about the offensive line two years ago t Crawford pans out, hope that Dallas can grab another DE through Free Agency or the draft.

Overall, it is pretty easy to see why people are down on this line. This is by far the most uncertainty that we have had there in years. It could pan out, but it could also easily be hot garbage.
thats what they said about the offensive line two years ago

Fair enough big dog. We will need a QB sooner rather than later. Love Tony, but that ride is almost over. There are a couple of very good ones that may be available.

I'm still torn on this subject. How long can we really rely on Tony's back/arm? He doesn't have the legs he used to have. Yeah I know, he can still maneuver better than your average QB, BUUUUUT, if the Cowboys brass decide to take a chance on a 2nd rounder or 3rd rounder (hypothetically BTW), I would understand. I highly doubt they go this route, but next year, I do expect it!!!

To me Bass is just a guy... until he stays healthy and shows something in the regular season. If he can do that and make some noise over the first part of the season, then yeah, I'm on board.

You may be right and that might be all he is. I have some hope for him though. The other players liked him...a lot. The coaches, too. But he's got to put it on the field. We'll see.

As a rookie minicamp invite he quickly showed to be on par with the 3rd round pick Crawford and the coaching staff (and fans) had hope for him and Crawford going into last season. This team unfortunately has some serious mojo problems when it comes to injuries.

It's funny, the holdovers from when Parcells was here like Romo, Ware, and Witten get dinged up but somehow still play while guys that came after Parcells get hurt and miss multiple games. I remember him having Witten get roughed up in practice to get him used to playing in the NFL.

Yeah, I'm not taking a negative slant with him... I, like everyone else... we just don't know as of now.

I recall this nugget from Hatcher during last TC: "Ben Bass is going to be the reason I'm playing on a different team next year.."

http://cowboysblog.***BANNED-URL***...m-playing-on-a-different-team-next-year.html/

Apparently he was tearing it up in TC. Looking forward to see what Rod can do with him.

Two years a pro, two years on IR.

I don’t have much in the way of expectations.

That's why if he does amount to something it will be a win. I think the guy has talent; I just know know if he can can last a 16-game season.

Indeed it would be great but there's only so long you can wait on "potential".

This year is make or break for Ben.

Myth? Really?

2013 Escobar
2008 Bennett
2006 Fasano

But you are probably right. Quick, name a position we have drafted more times in the second round since 2006.

Never mind, I will do it for you. There is none. We wasted two 2nds on worthless tackles and two on LB's. No other position has been addressed more often with a second round pick than TE. Maybe you need to pay attention to what is actually happening instead of sniping at me.

How many times has someone 'tore it up' in camp or OTA or whatever and were never heard from again?

We did not have second round picks in 2007, 2009 and 2012.

So 2006 Fasano
2007 nobody
2008 Marty Bennett
2009 Nobody
2010 Sean Lee
2011 Bruce Carter
2012 Nobody
2013 Gavin Escobar

You claimed..."We reserve second round picks for TE"

So if we reserve our second round picks for TEs...why are we taking LBs or trading out of those spots? But by all means, continue to be flat out WRONG.
