I'd rather reach at 4 for Lynch than give up another 1st for Goff, thanks. Though I'd be all over Goff at 4, too.

Idgit, I dont understand this thinking. If our scouts are telling our front office that Goff is the guy, why wouldnt you want us to give up next years first? Unless, you are concerned about the potential our scouts can be wrong, but in that case, why should we employ scouts we dont trust to get it right?

I don't think just next year's first rounder is under value to move from 2 to 4. Now if the Eagles or 49er's only offered next year's first than I agree cause the Browns would be moving all the way down to 7 or 8.

According to Broaddus who, you know, actually has the value chart the Cowboys use, it's next years 1st or this years 2nd and 3rd. I'm not even sure why the value is even being questioned when he pulled it right from the chart.

Yeah, once future picks come into play, it get a bit more flexible, it seems
Next year's 1st is normally valued close a current year mid 2nd...or about 430-450.
So..

We'd be paying about 2250 for 2400.

That does fall with 5-10% , so maybe so

The extra 150 is a lot though...worth this year's 4th (100) plus 50 or maybe next year's 3rd plus some.

As for Broaddus, he clarified that he was ball parking it

It's too much for one position when the best the scouts can ever tell you is the guy has a chance to be a franchise guy.

There's no such thing as a sure bet to begin with, and Goff's not a remarkable talent by historical standards. I don't mind risking my first pick on it, but ransoming future years sets your team back 5-6 years if you get it wrong.

I'd much rather build the defense and players around him and take my chances on developing a lower probability pick or finding a decent vet at that price.

Plus, Lynch has a lot of work to do, but I kind of like him as a prospect.

Also Goff could be a very good QB (or not) in time, but he isn't going to play next year unless Romo gets injured. If the impact of your draft this year is minimal because your top five pick is sitting on the bench, next year's #1 is probably in the 10 - 20 range.

If Romo is injured and Goff is thrown into the fire next year, the future #1 you are giving up is another top five pick. At that point you may have given up two top five picks for a good but not great, hold the fort type of QB.

It's a mistake to look at a draft only in terms of what does it deliver me in year one. Especially when selecting a QB.

Picking or trading up for Goff/Wentz is a future securing move - projecting 10 years out. If the only point of the draft is to take care of the present year, that is a recipe for failure.

Just because RG3 got hurt doesn't mean you don't trade future picks for a guy that you believe can be your franchise QB for 10 years. Heck Romo was undrafted so maybe we'll just try that again because it's already worked once

We are talking about giving up next year's 1st to move up TWO spots? Heck no.

Call Cleveland's bluff and see if they take him. San Diego won't. If Cleveland wants him that badly, why would they trade out? See if they take someone else instead and hope Goff falls to you at 4.

Not sure what your point is exactly. If you are trying to make the point that we could trade up and draft a bust at QB, then you are correct. We could also sit tight at #4 and draft a bust at CB/S or DE or RB or pick your position. We could also trade down and draft multiple busts instead of one. I could go find colorful pictures of draft "busts" from just about every position on the field but it would still prove nothing.

The entire draft is a crap shoot.

Using that logic, you should never take a QB, because they can get hurt.

Every situation, be it success or failure, is born from its own individual circumstances. Griffin's failure was multiple: a coach who didn't protect his player when he was injured, rupturing the trust between player and coach. The player being too close to the owner, and having an open door to the owner when he didn't get his way. The lack of accountability on the part of Griffin for his own professional development.

Just because the trade for Griffin was bad doesn't mean that each subsequent trade is doomed to the same result. If the scouting staff indicates that the player is a franchise guy, then they should make the move.

Funny how people make fun of the RG3 trade, but nobody says a peep about the Eli trade.

If the entire draft is a crap shoot, you don't give up two Top Five picks for one Top Two pick that is a crap shoot to succeed. You trade down and take as many rolls of the dice as possible.

Put me in the camp in favor of trading up to 2.

Hopefully you could get them to do it for under market value, but if not I certainly would consider next year's first.

Guarantee myself Goff or Wentz, I'm good with that.
