Making projections comes with the territory.

How many players in our front seven played 3-4 in college?
The 3-4 from 4-3 transition is not even close to that of TE to OT, from the mental to the physical. Not even close.

The physical tranformation alone is an obstacle that is hard to overcome. There is a reason why you do not see more TEs converted to an in-line tackle and that is the reason.

Hey Roy Williams was great at blocking too.
Quick, start a Roy Williams to TE thread.

You title it Roy Willams = Shannon Sharpe. Or wait, better. Roy = Jay Novacek.

Even better: 2009 Cowboys = 1991 Cowboys

Let him see the difference in contract numbers for TE and OT in the NFL and he might just change his mind.

Good point.

Still, I get the feeling Bennett would look at a change like this as a negative thing and would fight it.

Bennett produced more on the field this year than he did last year. You just don't notice it when it's a block since blocks don't hit the stat sheet. I bet you were on the trade Romo/Spencer/Jenkins wagon at some point too.

I could care less about his blocking. If he becomes the best blocking TE in the history of the NFL but never elevates his production in the passing game he will be a massive bust.

I'd take the best blocking TE in history for a 2nd round pick any day. So I can't see how it would be a massive bust.

A massive bust is taking J. Russell with the first pick and giving him a huge contract....not taking someone in the 2nd.

I'm guessing he is too young to remember what Moose Johnston's blocking ability did for Emmitt Smith.

Fine, remove massive.

Doesn't change the fact you don't spend a 2nd round pick on a TE who can't catch or run a decent route. Blocking TEs can be had off the street.

Half the teams in the NFL don't have TEs who can catch. :laugh2:

Please do not start with that mind-blowing stupidity.

"But .. but .. both teams lost a divisional playoff game on the road. Ergo, both squads are exactly alike!"

Come to think of it, the Ravens lost on the road last weekend. Why aren't they the '91 Cowboys?

Nonsense. We used a first round pick on David LaFleur. A second round choice on Kendall Watkins. Don't you dare make that kind of insinuation.

We drafted an outside LB who could not get a sack until he came on strong in the last half of the season in his 3rd year with Spencer. No doubt Bennett season was a disappointment but to claim he can't catch and nothing more than a blocking TE at this stage is a bit short sighted. He is a young player who will be entering his 3rd season I would not be claiming him a bust just yet.

You do realize that the TE wasn't always a big receiving threat right? Mike Ditka changed the position. The TE was solely a blocking position prior to Ditka. For much of the league, it still is.

No, its not. Point me out the last TE to make the Pro Bowl or go into the HOF who didn't have excellent receiving numbers.

Its a passing league and a good TE - one you expect from a 2nd round pick - plays an important part in the passing game.

Of course there are tons of TE's who primarily blockers and aren't very good receivers - that's why they are so easy to find and don't warrant high round picks.

I'm not claiming that is what he is now. I said IF his production doesn't improve.

This is pointless. Anyhow, Bennett has the ability to be a big time receiving threat. WRs usually take the longest to mature. A receiving TE is a receiver. Give Bennett time. Then you can have your crow cooked anyway you like.
