Best Safety In The Draft? Mayock Says...

Eric Berry will be the highest rated DB drafted since Terence Newman.

Who is Terence Newman? ;)

Perhaps I should have been clear. The quote is from Rotoworld, they are the ones saying he has to bulk up, not Mayock. Mayock just said Thomas is #1 on his list.

Gotcha. I like Mayock. But I'll respectfully disagree with his assessment.

I haven't seen a better Safety than Eric Berry in a long, long, long time.

but...but..but..Earl Thomas will be better in the long run

Catch17= Earl Thomas's girlfriend.

Funny, but I watched him for 2 years at UT and didn't find any issues with his tackling. I do agree on 2 points, though. Eric Berry is the #1 DB in this draft and ET won't last to our 1st round pick.

I must admit that I'm a recreational, Earl Thomas watcher, and I saw him get trucked a couple of times in the Championship game.

This from his scouting report doesn't sound too promising either...

Run Support: Willing to support the run. Flies into the action at full speed, pounding backs in the open field. Will overpursue and fail to break down, missing tackles. Will struggle to get off receiver or lineman blocks.

Tackling: Inconsistent as a tackler in space despite good statistics. Larger receivers and tough running backs run through his tackles in space. Ends up riding big receivers for a few yards before bringing them down. A special teams force in college and will be used there in the pros.

Okay, so you agree that Berry is the better safety now.

That's really the end of the discussion right there.

Roy Williams was better than Ed Reed for a couple years and Roy Williams was the best college safety EVER.

Mayock also has Suh as the #2 DT in the draft.

Man, I'm gonna miss the great, elite Eric Berry. He's a class act off the field, too.

I'd trade my entire draft for him, and I'm not kidding.

calm down man.lol

LoL what are you basing this off of? The amount of big hits RW had while he played for us? Best college safety ever? because he jumped over the O line to sac a QB? Really Really? This is laughable LoL.

lets get something straight ET did NOT have any tackling issues in college, not saying he wont in the pros because of his small frame but he was a very sure and willing tackler in college. he had no problem getting runners down, he may get drug or trucked but he gets them down and you are willing to live with that because of his range coverage and ballhawking ability.

But the guy has to be a hall of famer to validate being picked that high as a safety IMO.

That's not realistic and I doubt any GM would think that either. Seriously look at all the first round bust that happen every year, you can't say a guy is HOF or Bust.

Roy Williams was never a better safety than Ed Reed. Not in the NFL atleast and Sean Taylor was a better college safety and even Ed Reed in college is debatable.

I'm not saying it's HOF or bust.

It's terrible value though and he has to be a HOF'r to validate that pick even though he could still go on to have a solid career.

There might be 3 safeties that's ever played the game that were worth a top 3 pick.

eric berry will never touch ed reeds level of play in his life. best safety past 10 years. please

what the hell are you talking about you prince james stan? Im talking to the people who say Berry is the best safety prospect in the past 10 years. Dont know what you are talking about.

Ed Reed is the best NFL safety of all time and I probably still wouldn't take him with a top 3 pick unless I had a lot of confidence in my Offensive Tackle, and Quarterback or there just weren't any OT's or QB's I liked in that draft.

Berry has to be a phenom or you spent way to high of a draft pick on him and of course overpaid.
