The Bears rode their defense yet also scored more per game than the 1992 Cowboys did. Again, these weren't the points I brought up with you, only your claim that Payton had slowed down in 1985. I think I've shown that he hadn't.
The 85 Bears scored five defensive TDs. They also forced 54 turnovers, which was the fifth highest total since the beginning of the 16 game schedule. This gave their offense a lot of short fields and put them in a position to score a lot of points. Anytime anyone thinks of the 85 Bears they think of their defense.

You see how Micah Parsons wears down playing DE at 245? Imagine every Bear DL having that same challenge holding up against up against the run. Leverage and technique plays for a while, but a good, strong OL that out weighs it's opponent by 50+ pounds per man will win the day.

My dream is your nightmare.
He wears down because he’s doing something completely different than he did in college. We have him moving all over the place. He’s having to take on double teams all day. He’s having to adjust something very different. He was never used as a pass rusher in college. The 85 Bears had a number of players that could get to the QB. They had strength and great quickness, which led to a lot of jail breaks. Your dream is just that, a dream! Lol

I'd put the '98 Vikings up against anyone on that list.

They were one of the best teams I've ever seen.

Micah wears down because he is doing something different than what he did in college. Thank you for agreeing with me. Micah is playing DE in the pros and he gets worn down playing the run. Hasn't Micah been talking about adding size this offseason? Richard Dent played at 255 and Micah was 245 last year.

Finally, do you recall Parcells saying DWare would wear down if he played 4-3 end all the time? Guess why? Size matters.

Parsons is having to do everything, open your eyes! He provides most of our sacks. The 85 Bears D didn’t have players doing something different, having to adjust to the NFL. They had a veteran defense with a lot of experience. They didn’t depend on one player to get a majority of their sacks. They had several players that had to be accounted for who got sacks. You couldn’t simply double-team one player to neutralize them. When Parsons is neutralized and worn down we struggle to get to the QB, which is why our sack totals dropped later last season. The 85 Bears had 5 defensive TDs and an incredible 54 takeaways. I’m starting to wonder if you even were around in 1985 watching that great 85 Bears defense. I loved our 92 team, but they would’ve had their work cut out against that Bears defense. Don’t forget Mark Stepnoski was undersized at center at 269 pounds.

Parsons getting worn down is also directly related to his size and responsibilities. Read the article and that is the discussion.

You think Jim McMahon and Willie Gault would keep the 92 defense attention? Please Payton would be keyed on the Bears would score 10 points max. Dallas would ground and pound that Bears defense into submission. Time of possession would greatly favor Dallas, which adds to muscle football time.

Finally, you make my point again. Step was undersized at center and he still is heavier than 75% of the Bears front 4!

Parsons came in his rookie season at 250 pounds. He’s getting worn down because everyone is focused on stopping him. He’s having to take on double teams, chop blocks and he’s being held. The 85 Bears had a stacked defense with a number of players who could get to the QB. This is why they had so many jailbreaks to the QB. The 85 Bears scored a lot of points because of the defensive TDs, and the 54 takeaways. They would’ve been more than capable of getting turnovers against our 92 team. The Cowboys had a great team in 94 but lost by 10 points in the playoffs because of three turnovers against San Francisco. The Bears offense got a lot of short fields because of all the turnovers their defense forced. You can’t just disregard Willie Gault who had olympic speed and Walter Payton who put up over 1500 yards in 85. The 85 Bears put up over 40 points in three games that season. The 92 Cowboys only scored over 40 twice. The 85 Bears scored more points than the 92 Cowboys. The problem with you is you’re wearing your Homer cap too tight. Lol

Wow, McMahon and his 2300 passing yards would be handled easily by Dallas defense. Look at Bills offense and how did they do against Dallas? How about the Steve Young and 49ers? You see the 46 defense was new and innovative in 1985. Bears had some good players on defense, but the 46 code was not cracked yet in the NFL. Why didn't the great Bears team make another SB after 1985?????? No answer here????

BTW, the Eagles had some great players on defense in 1992. Wasn't their coach running the 46 defense and didn't he coach the Bears defense? Wow let's see Reggie White, Clyde Simmons, Jerome Brown. I would take them over the Bears front four.

1992 Cowboys muscled them as well, so you need to realize your argument is not Bearing you any fruits.

You’re obviously not grasping the points I’ve made, because you’re such a Cowboys fan you refuse to be objective. Glad you brought up the Eagles because they did have a real good defense in 92 and they destroyed the Cowboys in week four 31-7. They picked off Troy Aikman three times and sacked him four times. Our OL had no answers against their defense. By the way that defense didn’t have Jerome Brown because he was killed in a car accident three months prior to the start of that season. The 91 Eagles defense was better with Jerome Brown and Reggie White. Most have that defense ranked in the top five but still well below the 85 Bears defense. You’re too focused on the DL. You have to look at the entire 85 Bears defense. Their line backer play with Wilber Marshall was outstanding.

Then the Cowboys defeated the Eagles during their second game of the season and in the playoffs.

Emmitt snapped the Eagles 54 straight game of not allowing a 100 yard rusher.

Who on the Bears D stopping Irvin, Harper, and Novacek?

By the playoffs we hit our stride and Philly was coming down. The Bears would’ve stopped Irvin, Harper and Novacek with their incredible pass rush. That’s how Philly dominated us in week four of the 92 season. The 92 Cowboys weren’t as good as the 85 Bears and you won’t find a ranking that disproves it.

The Bears D would have been on the field too long and wore out.

Their pass rush would have been neutralized by the Cowboys running game and Aikman’s quick strikes in the timing passing game like below…

The Cowboys had too many weapons on offense for the Bears D and Erik Williams (before the car wreck) at the time could have been the most dominant OLineman in NFL history…

Erik Williams (before car accident) was Reggie White’s nightmare.

The Cowboys were on the rise and Philly was coming down by the playoffs. The loss of Jerome Brown in that car accident took a lot out of that Eagles team and it caught up with them.

You have no idea what would’ve happened. You sound exactly like the other fan I’m arguing with. Lol No more ridiculous argument than arguing about who would’ve won between the 85 Bears and the 92 Cowboys. Not wasting any more time with this football fantasy.

The same applies to you

“The Bears would’ve stopped Irvin, Harper and Novacek with their incredible pass rush.”

You believe the undersized Bears pass rush could stop the Cowboys passing and rushing attack and make up for the Bears anemic offense going up against the Cowboys D that was #1 in D, could stop the run, got a lot of sacks, and held opponents to less than 30% conversion on third down

Hard to pick against a team that went 15-1 with the all-time greatest defense in NFL history. The 92 Cowboys had some problems against good defensive teams that season. Go find a poll that has the 92 Cowboys ranked ahead of the 85 Bears and we’ll continue this. Safe to say this discussion is over. Lol

I'm going to get a lot of heat for this, but the 1983 Washington Commodes was one of the best teams I ever saw play. They broke the record for most points scored ever and held that record until the 98 Vikings (I think). They blew out everybody including the playoffs. But it all fell apart in the SB against the Raiders and they got blew out 38-9. Unbelievable!

The 1992 49ers were 14-2 and lost to the 13-3 Cowboys in the NFC Championship game.

1992 Cowboys offense, D, special teams, and coaching > than the 1985 Bears’

The teams the 1985 Bears faced in the playoffs were 10-6 and 11-5.

Again, you're avoiding the point you made. Payton hadn't slowed down in 1985, correct?

I don't know why the 99 Rams are on the list. The Greatest Show on Turf only put up 23 on the Titans, whose defense isn't considered one of the greatest.
Imagine if they were playing the Steelers, Cowboys, Bears and Ravens Super Bowl defenses?
