Washington, DC to spend a week seeing all the sites. I spent 3 days just visiting the Smithsonian museums. The only site I did not make it to was Arlington, and I will do that the next time I go. The Holocaust Museum was so mind blowing. I was emotional as I have ever been. Especially walking through the box car that they had used to transport the Jews like cattle.

Took the family to Florida 3 weeks ago.
Went with the boys to Disney's Polynesian Resort for breakfast.
The look in my boys' faces when Mickey Mouse came to our table was priceless.
Also went to The Villages to see my wife's granny and closed out the vacation with a full day at the Magic Kingdom.

I've got to say that I have enjoyed Boston everytime I have gone. Granted, it was twice, once in October and most recently last May, but I have lived in the NE, so I know what the weather is like. To this day, I don't think I can live in the NE, EXCEPT and this is a big one, for Boston. I would love to live there. The atmosphere rocks, and it is a very collegiate town. Granted the hated Patriots are there, but Boston itself is very awesome. Probably wouldn't have a hard time finding a job there given the hundreds of university.

Another fave was Denver. I love the beach, but I wouldn't mind Denver b/c of the mountains.

As far as international, I've only been to Vietnam, Singapore, Canada, and Mexico. I always love going to Vietnam, especially touring the coast and Ha Long Bay, or going on a trek to the Perfume Pagoda or Sapa. So beautiful. I wouldn't recommend doing it in the summer because it is sooooo hot, but when you get into the magical caves, it's cool and soothing and beautiful. I would like to visit Hong Kong one day, it sounds like a pretty cool place.

Hawaii - island hop'd 3 islands
Hong Kong
Cancun
countless snowboard trips around Canada and the US
Puerto Vallarta 2 months ago

It's the people you go with that make the experience even better. Eventhough Hawaii was more scenic, had more fun in PV, b/c of the fun factor.

What has been your best vacation?

In terms of scenery, experience, food, whatever.

What has been your overall best vacation?

Mine: Crete, Greece.

By far my most enjoyable vacation. Huge island, great people, nightlife is AMAZING. Beaches, food, hotels, shopping. Everything was amazing.

21 wonderful days in Alaska, the state I was born in but left when I was 3... I had no memories of my true home state, now I do... I even visited the hospital I was born in, and had a picture taken of me in front of it (Elmendorf AFB Hospital)...

We arrived in Anchorage on Memorial Day weekend, spent a few days on our own wandering around (down to Seward, the Alyeska ski resort), up to the Matanuska Valley in a rented van)... then it was time to join the Princess CruiseTour, we started the land portion first... up to Denali National Park, then on to Fairbanks by train, the back to Anchorage by jet... while we were in Fairbanks, I went down to the hotel bar one night to flirt with the pretty, middleaged bartender... on my way back up to the room, I saw a sign on an easel in the lobby, beside a massive stuffed Kodiak bear... the sign read:

Sunset-- 11:57 PM
Sunrise-- 3:41 AM

This was still 3 weeks before the summer solstice...

Then we loaded onto a bus that took us back down to Seward for the cruise portion... I'd never been on a cruise before, that was pretty cool and the food was fabulous... the highlight of that portion was a stop at Saxman to see the totem pole carvers... other stops included Skagway and Juneau...

Then we disembarked at Vancouver, had lunch at a Chinese restaurant in the largest Chinatown in North America, then drove down to Seattle (again, a rented van)... we were travelling with some Chinese-American friends, they're the ones who knew about the restaurant...

Spent a day wandering around Seattle, then flew back home... it was an exhausting, great time...

My best vacations are all the DisneyWorld trips that I take and also when I saw the Cowboys play. Also when my parents took me to New York for a week. Also one summer my parents and I went one a month vacation. Some of the places that we went for the one month vacation were South Carolina and North Carolina,Pennsavana and Canada.

When I renewed my annual pass this year I got an extra 3 months. So now I have 15 months :) I have a 5 day/4 night trip at Disney's Polynesian coming up. For my birthday vacation I like to stay in DisneyWorld for 2 weeks. For my birthday vacation I most likely will stay at one of the Disney Resorts or the Swan and Dolpin (Swan and Dolphin are in DisneyWorld) from Jan 23rd to Feb 6. With these dates I can start my vacation by watching the Conference Championships in DisneyWorld and end my vacation by watching the Super Bowl in DisneyWorld. I turn 34 on 1-27-2010.

Amsterdam is a special place. Beautiful buildings, the canals, several very nice museums, the markets, a fantastic place to go on long walks. Many more bicycles than cars. I like the novelty of it. It is a great place to spend three or four days during a longer vacation in Europe. The coffee shops and the red light district give the city an unfortunate and misleading reputation in the U.S. (similar to how some confuse the French Quarter with New Orleans).

Paris and London are both very nice big cities. Lots to see and do in each. They are easy to navigate.

Athens isn't as easy as Paris or London, but it is a rewardng adventure. Istanbul is too.

I visited D.C. several years ago and took a day for sightseeing; I hope to go back for a week. I'd also like to spend some time in NYC.

Yes! I went to London and Amsterdam in '02. London was really cool. Met many cool English folks who were real nice. Amsterdam is gorgeous. I was blown away. I want to go again, hopefully next summer. This time I'll try to venture out of the red light district...lol

It's between Roma, Paris, and my last trip to the Cayman Islands when I got to go Scuba diving for the first time.

Probably Roma. The Colosseum, Pantheon, Forum, Trevi Fountain and Vatican were amazing. Oh and lets not forget the food!

Europe.......no thanks.

I've had a dozen "best vacations", and they all start in Northern New Mexico, and End in Southern Montana. A fly rod, a 4x4, and a campfire.

Nothing in Paris can compete.

How about a fly rod, a 4x4, and a campfire in the outskirts of Paris? :laugh2:

Yeah after all, the Louvres, Versailles, Musee D'Orsay, Invalides have nothing on fly fishing and black flies at a campsite.

If the Louvres, Versailles, Musee D'Orsay can't compete with fly fishing and 4x4ing, you might be a redneck. :laugh2:

I love northern New Mexico -- it's my one of my favorite places -- but have you ever been to Paris?

Twice.

It just doesn't do it for me. I'm not a big fan of spending vacations in crowded cities being rushed to do this or that.

Give me a quiet river in the mountains, watching wildlife, a cool summer breeze, and no cell phones or watches within 20 miles of me.

thats a vacation. At least to me.

I can see that. I like that too, but while I like to fish and camp too. My absolute favorite thing to do with I want to get away from everything is reading on the beach with the sound of waves crashing and completely undisturbed . Well, except maybe a waiter bringing my next drink. Nothing IMO is more relaxing. Thats just me though.

Now, there is definitely a time and place for Paris, London, Roma, and just about any other great city in history.

Different strokes. Your vacation sounds like Brokeback Mountain to me.

These are all fair points. I love Santa Fe.
