Go back to last year's playoff loss to the 49ers. Dak had a sub-par game for sure. But outside of CeeDee Lamb, name me one player that had a good game. One.
The other receivers? Did the offensive line protect well? Did they run block well? Did the running backs excel? Did the defense get a ton of pressure? Stop the run? Get some turnovers that could have helped? Did the coaches come up with a spectacular game plan only to have Dak muddle it up?
I hear all the time that conditions "have to be perfect" for Dak to win. But how many QB's don't need a strong team around them? Look at Mahomes this year with bad receivers. NOT comparing Dak to Mahomes, but if a "generational" talent like him can't be expected to overcome lousy support, why expect Dak to do the same?
Once you find a franchise quarterback you keep him. Then you find a way to put him in position to succeed. To that end the Cowboys (especially under Garrett) have failed Dak; just as they failed Tony Romo before him.
Garrett failed Dak by coddling him and teaching him to work the media and let them make excuses for him. Garrett failed Dak by not making Dak earn his position the second year.
Garrett failed Dakand the fans by not making Dak mature by playing behind the second string line in preseason.
Garrett failed Dak by treating him like he was a phenom, because Garrett was desperate to believe that Dak would finally justify him and make him look like a real head coach.
Garrett let Dak believe that if the Cowboys struggled it was always somebody else at fault.
And Dak ate it up, and had no idea what to do when the Cowboys needed him to lead.
if Dak had been drafted by any other team he'd already be out of the NFL by now.
McCarthy has seemed to help him this year, but how many years do we give a guy who has cost the Cowboys every year?
