Good points. I tend to agree that it was a numbers game.

They were gonna but were hamstringed by having to pay someone else's salary. We've put our eggs all into one basket so we now get to live with the consequences of that.





P.S. The first sentence was me being snarky. I have no proof but it made me chuckle typing it!!

Getting a legitimate free agent backup is expensive, he would have to learn the system, and he would have limited value. Anyway, there really isn't anyone available that would actually make a difference.

Drafting a QB in the 2nd or 3rd every 3 years isn't going to dilute their talent when you consider the quality of a lot of the guys drafted in those rounds.

As it stands, it's Dak or bust. If he goes down, season over.

so that means every 2 or 3 years you recyle a back up QB.....that's waste of draft pick. just in case we had diggs, gallimore, mcgovern, pollard, gallup over the past few years in 2nd and 3rd round. players who are expected to be cornerstones on the team....but I get your point, at some point you have to draft higher than a 5th or 7th round pick. I just think every 2 or 3 years is a bit over the top.......

Gilbert played ok as long as they weren't in the redzone (and ok is a little generous), but Rush and 'Nooch played crappy, and do not belong in the NFL. Their level of play and comprehension based on players around them and the speed of the game was poor.
Narrow it down even more Rush carried himself a little better at the NFL level but his targets always seems to be those 2 or 3 yard dumpoffs. Nooch - just bad, he has a long way to go to even hope to play in NFL

With talk that Dalton is the starter in Chicago and the 1st round commitment to Fields, I do not see the Bears releasing/trading Dalton but rather if anyone goes it would be Foles. That said Dalton would cost the Bears $5.5M if released/traded (salary cap hit V. dead money) and Foles would cost the Bears $7.6M (also Dalton signed a 1-year deal whereas Foles has 2 years remaining) so ultimately the Bears need to decide how much they commit to the QB position and who between Dalton and Foles provides them with the better quality option to pair with Fields.
 
How many defenses in preseason look like they had a defined game plan. Blitzes? Come on. Is Tomlin trying to score points with his GM?

Foles is not that bad either. Either one would be an improvement. If Dallas does not make a move, they are asking for trouble.
 
I think we have to consider thats it’s actually an easier path in public opinion for our dysfunctional ownership to concede the season if Prescott goes down than bringing in a named veteran who could have some success in his absence which could create drama and a QB controversy they’d hate to have especially after just signing a 4 year 160 million deal.

He isn't but besides the magical run in 2017 Foles really hasn't done anything in his career. Despite being a few years younger than Dalton, when you look at their career stats Dalton is actually the better rusher and passer and recently had time in the Dallas system. I doubt the Bears release him as a roster cut but if they did Dallas would be wise to contact him immediately.

It's a little alarming that DiNucci was a pet cat for a supposed QB guru like McCarthy. I try to give the benefit of the doubt scouting players. We all miss a lot but I just don't see any traits in him that would make anyone believe he could potentially be an NFL QB.

Trading a late round pick for a vet insurance policy is not a bad thing if we wanted to go in that direction. I think cap space is more the FO concern. So mich already tied up in Dak— they ride or die with him
