Biggs: Daniel Snyder responds to slam from Emmitt Smith

Commanders owner says he is compassionate for everything non-Cowboy Brad Biggs

MARCH 06, 2010, 01:06 PM EST

Can it get a little more interesting come August in Canton, Ohio?

Is this just a minor buildup to a great showdown?

Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder has responded to criticism from former Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals running back Emmitt Smith, who slammed Snyder in, of all places, Slam Magazine.

“I applaud Emmitt Smith’s induction into the NFL Hall of Fame and, from what I understand, he’s a heck of a dancer,” Snyder said in a statement released by the team this afternoon. “I think we’ve only met once briefly at an NFL function in 2000. I will say, however, that I like to think of myself as being a compassionate person, except toward the Dallas Cowboys.”

Our friend John Keim of the Washington Examiner found the Smith comments regarding Snyder and the Commanders and detailed them on Friday:

"I loved defeating the Commanders. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it with a passion," Smith said. "And I loved it more when Daniel Snyder got the team, for a number of reasons. I did. Because here is a guy who thought he could build a football team just because he has the money to buy players. There's more to it than that. And he's not a compassionate person, not a compassionate person at all from what I understand. And that makes me just want to pummel somebody.

"You know, you hate to see pride, wearing itself on his forehead and his chest. And to me, arrogance sticks out like a sore thumb when you talk about him. And the lack of compassion for others is a problem. Because it's not that hard to be compassionate; you just choose to."

As Keim noted, there is a long list of people who step forward and speak to Snyder’s generosity and compassion. The National Football Post’s Matt Bowen can recount the time Snyder visited him in the hospital after he was injured in a game. Snyder loaned his personal airplane to former coach Greg Blache when one of his parents was ill.

We just want to see if this can escalate before Smith and former Commander Russ Grimm are inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the same day.

Hey, Danny. You owning the Commanders has been a good thing for the Cowboys. Keep up the good work.

Snyder sure wasn't compassionate when he bought the Skids. He was firing everyone in sight, even lowly office staff. And he charged his fans admission to training camp. Compassion??? I don't think so.

Didn't the Commanders sue senior citizens who couldn't pay for their season tickets after their houses were foreclosed on as a result of the housing collapse? REAL COMPASSIONATE! :lmao:

As a result of the housing collapse, or as a result of their own idiocy? I'm sorry, but you need to live within your means. If you can't afford it, don't buy the damn tickets. Also, I got no sympathy for people whose homes got foreclosed. Once again, don't buy it if you can't afford it, period.
You can blame the banks all you want, but it's the people's fault for buying them in the first place when they probably couldn't even have afforded a bag of marbles.

amen to that.

Little Jerry Jr up there who does everything jerry has done a year or two later...and usually fails at has been great for us.

Just think if shannahan fails like the rest snyders hires, maybe he will insert bernard shaw and tom cruise to run the team.

Wow. Emmitt slamming someone for being proud and arrogant.

Next thing you know Michael Irvin will slam someone for their off the field conduct.

So let's say that you have a job for a bunch of years. You get married, have a few kids and buy a home for your family that is well within your means.

Then, out of nowhere, you get laid off.

Now you use up every bit of savings you have while you struggle to make ends meet with one job, if your spouse has a job to begin with, assuming.

So, its food or mortgage. Heat or mortgage.

Obviously, you are either too young or too stupid to have experienced living in the real world with real life issues that can happen to anyone.

Dan Snyder isn't the only idiot in Commander colors.

What is it about losers who have to use this term?

Personally, you should be banned for using the term. It's the same as an ethnic slur.

I agree with you 100%. I was thinking the same thing that he must not understand how the economy really affected things or just o stubborn to understand. Me being only 23 i haven't had the opportunity to run the whole family/house/kids yet but i will tell ya living in one of the more affected areas of southern California the term "if you cant afford it dont buy it" is far from the truth in the matter.

You would be blaming the wrong people. The banks gave the loans to those who they KNEW couldn't afford it.

They told people who desired the American Dream they could have it regardless of their financial situation and made the loans. Take a look at the head of the Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and that is where you can lay the blame.

Wow. I don't think I've seen a more stupid set of comments on the forums the whole time I've been here and that's including the stupid things some Eagles fans would say.

So you're assuming these people lost their homes simply because they bought homes they couldn't afford to pay for?

So I'm guessing you know, for sure, that all these people bought homes they couldn't afford and not that they possibly bought homes they could easily afford right before the company they were working for hit hard times and suddenly laid them off?

Way to show your lack of class, brains, integrity, or anything else that makes a person a decent person.
