Couldn't this sort of thing get Blandino in trouble? He's singling out the Cowboys staff as being too stupid to understand the rules. That looks like a clear case of bias to me, which the NFL refs are not supposed to be. A lot of folks already question the integrity of the game. Things like this strengthen their argument.

Jerry Jones should throw a fit, considering all the business value he's added to the league behind the scenes..

Cry and complain like Kraft for once in your life Jerry..

Blandino is corrupt. Period.

It a shame Dez didn't just come down with the catch and not try to extend with one hand for the score. He easily could've done that. He caught it...period...and the tried to extend with his momentum.
Just a playmaker trying to make plays.
Tragic

What Blandino is unfortunately in denial of is that there are virtually millions of people who don't understand the catch rule and never will.

I know D*** well had that #13 kid done the same thing the outcome woulda been different... Stuff like this makes it hard to stomach the league each year.

Blandino just keeps making up the rule.

For the MILLIONTH time...the rule clearly states that once the player advances the football, it is now a catch and no longer an incomplete pass. Once the ball is advanced, the rule book clearly states that it is 'an act common to the game' (aka 'football move'). It doesn't state anything about how long the ball has to be in the player's hands, how much the ball needs to be advanced, etc. If the ball is advanced...it's a catch.

What this moron doesn't understand...and it's something I pointed out right after the game....is that the Calvin Johnson Rule does NOT apply in this situation. Johnson was already in the end zone. Any player cannot physically 'advance' the football when you're already in the end zone. So in that situation, the ball must be controlled thru the ground. But when you're in Dez's situation and you're not in the end zone, you can advanced the football . And once a player does advance the football, the rules state that it is a catch.

What's mind numbingly frustrating about this situation is that the rules in place were very clear, concise and logical. But, you have this room temperature IQ imbecile in Blandino that has screwed everything up. And now he has the gall to say that 'we don't understand the rule.'

It's astonishing to see 1 idiot screw something up that everybody knows he screwed up and then for him to flat-out lie and make up a new rule and somehow people have started to buy into his nonsense instead of just expurgating him from the league all together.

And again...Blandino has NEVER refereed a game on any level. NFL, NCAA, semi-pro, high school or Pop Warner. They should just fire him because he can simply do college tours on how to slide your way into a job that you are terribly unqualified for. He's got a real faculty for that.

You're an NFL official, and your boss just told you that one team's coaches don't understand all the rules.

Now go out and officiate that team's games.

That sounds like grounds for a lawsuit. That's slander...and setting up a bias vs an organization.

And according to that video/explaination....Dez Bryant's catch wasn't a "bang-bang" play.

So now they are going to try and sell... if it's a bang-bang play...It's not a catch....Got it:facepalm:

Wow. That is UTTERLY unprofessional no matter WHICH staff he's referring to. We need to get over this THIS year and tell him to bugger off with plays that don't need a judgement call.

One element of the 2014 rule makes me chuckle. By the written rule, as long as Dez makes contact with the ground without the ball coming out, it is a catch. That rule never specified if one foot contacting the ground was enough or insufficient. There's a legitimate argument that it was a catch after his first foot hit the ground. Not that I'm arguing it, but the rule was pathetically written to communicate the nonsensical concept.

One foot wouldn't have been enough. It was a catch, but not until control + two feet + time enough for a football move.

2014 Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3
A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds:
a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and
b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and
c) maintains control of the ball long enough, after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, to enable him to perform any act common to the game (i.e., maintaining control long enough to pitch it, pass it, advance with it, or avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.).

This begs the question - if the Cowboy staff members are the only ones who don't understand the catch rule, then why was the rule changed in 2015, only to have it changed back in 2016? Was it not clear enough originally?

It sounds like the ones who don't know what the catch rule is reside outside of Valley Ranch or Arlington.

yes, you're right. But Blandino was trying to pretend that his special section was independent and overruled all other sections.
