Hey this is reality. You know truth is stranger then fiction.

Hos, I can kind of understand being squeemish. BUT really try and watch it again and make it through. I can guarantee its worth it.
The thing is I am not squeamish. I was a firefighter for 7 years and I saw stuff that is purely traumatizing and I can PM you examples if you want.

Maybe that's the problem. I have already seen too much.

I love war movies. I mean really love them. I just couldn't watch it man.

If you can skip the first part I really think you will enjoy it.

exactly...

saving private ryan is an excellent movie.

i know where hos is coming from though.

several ww2 veterans attempted to watch it at movie theaters and had to leave because it was too real.

the sounds and authenticity were too much.

Crazy good movie, I almost packed it in after the first ten minutes as well, but the rest of the movie is nowhere close to being like that first ten. Maybe you should just skip the first frame of the movie and go on to the rest.

I have a five and a two year old, so the recent movies I've missed have been way too many to post. Kind of a bummer, actually.

Hos, add me to the contingent that you need to watch Saving Private Ryan.

I also agree that it should be mandatory viewing for adolescents to young adults.

It will make you rethink how to describe someone as a hero.

Amadeus: The film was nominated for 53 awards and received 40, including 8 Academy Awards (including Best Picture), 4 BAFTA Awards, 4 Golden Globes, and a DGA Award. In 1998, Amadeus was ranked the 53rd best American movie by the American Film Institute on its AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movies list; however, the movie dropped off the AFI's 10th anniversary edition of the list in 2007.

This had to be the worst movie I have ever half way seen. I could not watch the entire movie because the boredom was more than I could handle

That's pretty wild that we already have a couple of people that have never seen the LoTR movies. Those are such greatness. All 3 of them would go in my top 10 of all time. Seriously.

Now that is a classic definition of personal preference. One person's junk is another's treasure, so to speak. Having said that, I liked them okay.

Great thread. For reference, here's the list of the 100 highest grossing films of all time (adjusted for inflation).

.

There are films that are generally considered the best of all time and then there are highest grossing films. I guess, imo, "best films would fall somewhere in between, because so often there are great flicks that didn't have the hype or backing or budget...so they did not quite male the highest gross list even though they did make a ton of money.

For example, the Star Trek hype is so huge that any new feature could "relativlely" suck and still gross a ton of money.

I never saw "Shindler's List", but from what I gather it's at the top of most "experts" lists of "greatest movies of all time".

Citizen Kane is another one I'd like to see someday..................

I would consider those "must see" movies, but again, jmo. Same with Shawshank Redemption. I think it is one of the best.

Wow. How'd I forget about that one in my OP??

I have never seen any of the Godfather movies either, and when I tell people that, they look at me like I'm on crack.

Especially since I loved goodfellas, Casino, Sopranos, etc etc.

No ****!! You would love the Godfather movies then.

I've never seen ANY Rocky or Rambo movie.

I was forced to watch Transformers with my BIL's kids over a recent holiday afternoon. I PRAYED for the sweet relief of death about 8 minutes in!
