I like that we seem to be taking the Seahawks approach of just getting players who are good at stuff.

Ware couldn't sack the QB anymore, so we go out and get a pure pass rusher. Playing alongside Melton and others, Lawrence should excel at doing one thing this year and will improve as time goes on.

Also lol at you guys who are hitching to this one scout's opinion as if it is the gospel.

Jack, I truly respect people's opinions on players, especially if they have a personal relationship with them. Having said that, I went back and rewatched film on him. I was hoping i was misremembering .... but i wasn't. I'm sure he is a good kid but he has neither the speed to get around the edge, on a consistent basis, especially against the best tackles the NFL has to offer nor the size and strength to hold up against the run. Repeatedly he runs himself out of the lane or gets run over if he doesn't. He doesn't have catch up speed to run down qb's who are scrambling out of the pocket. Every once in awhile he would get a free release but it was almost never because he beat his man and this was against inferior competition. I have one real criterion when evaluating whether a player from a lesser conference is worth a 1st round grade: Did they dominate their competition? He doesn't... I hope... I pray that I am wrong and that we picked up someone special. Having said all that. This will be the last negative post I say about him. He is now a Cowboy and he's my WDE (tear in my eye :D ). I love all my cowboys until they betray the team... Demarcus is gone... Long live Demarcus.

I appreciate your point of view, My opinions on DLaw are just that, my opinions. I do think that I am in a somewhat better position to judge him having seen him up close, having rewatched all the games, yes I do DVR all of BSU's games, If he has a fault it is in arm strength, he definitely needs to get bigger and stronger what I noticed about him was he has a tough time shedding lineman who got both hands on him. I think getting stronger and thicker will help with that. I think that theogt's analysis was spot on minus his speed comments, Demarcus is a lot faster than you would think, I saw him run down a running back from across the field and 15 yards behind, the kid is lightning fast on the field.

Someone else pointed that he is tenacious, that is a perfect way to describe his style of play. He never gives up he plays until the whistle blows. You said you like to see him dominate in lesser competition, I'm not sure how you define dominate, He was up for Conference Defensive MVP both years, he forced every other team to game plan for him, to me that is dominating. 20.5 sacks with 34 tfl in two years is pretty good regardless of who you are playing. You also have to keep in mind that Boise rotates their DL constantly, so he wasn't playing every defensive snap.

This is where the disconnect is for me. To me he didn't seem to have speed to track the play down from behind. I do admit that he never stopped but it looked like he was running at half speed. I just didn't see the speed. As I said, he's our WDE now and in my mind he is the best WDE in the game. :D

The kid looks like he has potential, just not crazy about giving up a 3rd rd pick to move up. At least he's not a TE

Lawrence insists he can play defensive end in a 4-3 or outside linebacker in a 3-4.

"It doesn't matter if I'm standing up or have my hand in the dirt: If you tell me to go get that quarterback, I'm going to get him," Lawrence said. "It's just that plain and simple. I have one mission: to get that quarterback. And I'm going to find a way to do it."

I already love his swagger. He has that type of swag and edginess about him that this defense needs. We need someone NASTY. Not someone who's going to sack you and help you up and pat you on the back and tell you good job.

If Marinelli liked him enough to spend two picks on him, I'm sure he'll be a great player. I trust Marinelli. However, we need a lot more than just one player on defense. Not sure if we'll get starting-caliber players with a 4th, 5th and six 7ths.

Since when is Marinelli a scout?

Their are very few sure things in the second round. It could work out or it could be terrible.. I'm weary of the pick cause we don't really have anyone on the other side. Someone to really take the pressure off the rookie.

He's probably an 9-12 sack per year player. Solid but not a consensus perennial pro bowler. I'll take it.
I think you are correct. However, this year I think he will be more like a 6-9 sack guy, maybe more if we can get more consistent play along the d line.

That is part of the youtube videos that highlighted him. I swear a Fresno fan must of put those reels together. Watch the 3 minute video I posted and see if you still doubt his speed. If you still question it then we will just have to agree to disagree :)

Edited because I apparently forget how to spell during my initial post...lol

DLaw is very explosive, he has great use of his hands, he has a natural knack for leverage, and once he gets his mitts on you, you are going down. His agility is pretty impressive too. It is hard to believe that a 6'3" 250 guy can move so effortlessly.

EDIT: I love how he just slangs the hell out of the QB. The kid has a ferocious streak. :)
