Having watched every single game he played at Boise State and having gone to lunch with Demarcus a couple of times, I can tell you that he was WELL worth the trade to grab him. He is an explosive player that completely disrupts the backfield. He needs to put on some weight and get stronger, but this kid is the real deal and I guarantee you at least 24 other teams are going to kick themselves in the *** for having passed on him.

He does not have character issues, he was suspended for staying out past his curfew (dinner with his parents) and for missing a team meeting. No criminal charges, no scandals, no violence, he is a quiet spoken and likable guy. With Crawford getting his shot this year, and Demarcus playing beside him, that side of D-Line will be solid.

He will have double digit sacks his rookie year. His "football" speed is unbelievable. Give him a year to bulk him and he will be a beast.

Thanks man. I hated giving up that 3rd but your words are very comforting. To know the kid is to love him huh? Sounds nice for now...we should all have an open mind moving forward, no question.

I agree, I just look for players that look good in their uniforms....lol what do I know. I bow to the almighty posters who glance at the stat sheets only....

Jack, I truly respect people's opinions on players, especially if they have a personal relationship with them. Having said that, I went back and rewatched film on him. I was hoping i was misremembering .... but i wasn't. I'm sure he is a good kid but he has neither the speed to get around the edge, on a consistent basis, especially against the best tackles the NFL has to offer nor the size and strength to hold up against the run. Repeatedly he runs himself out of the lane or gets run over if he doesn't. He doesn't have catch up speed to run down qb's who are scrambling out of the pocket. Every once in awhile he would get a free release but it was almost never because he beat his man and this was against inferior competition. I have one real criterion when evaluating whether a player from a lesser conference is worth a 1st round grade: Did they dominate their competition? He doesn't... I hope... I pray that I am wrong and that we picked up someone special. Having said all that. This will be the last negative post I say about him. He is now a Cowboy and he's my WDE (tear in my eye :D ). I love all my cowboys until they betray the team... Demarcus is gone... Long live Demarcus.

I think losing the 3rd round pick is overshadowing what we just drafted. I really like the pick and I didn't think for one second he's even be an option at 47 overall. He would've got picked prior to our pick and the FO would've been disappointed in letting another impact defensive player get drafted in front o us again.

I'm neutral on the pick because I don't watch college and don't know anything about these guys; so I'll take a wait and see approach. I will say though, we all remember the rueage here for not jumpinng up forr the center GB snag from us a few years ago, we just replaced the center we lost. I can't say this tradde was good or bad but they learned from their mistake and got who they wanted. I'll take that over being passive and losing out. Besides I heard Jerry was stressing his yearly 2nd round TE and was rumored to go after one in the 2nd at 47 if all DL they liked were gone or third if they didn't lose it in a trade.

Just read DL ran a 4.65 at his pro day. Impressive.

Depends. Usually scouts will add some time to normalize vs the combine. Makes it about what he ran at the combine, around 4.72 (hand time) to 4.76 (official).

I wish the Cowboys didn't give up a pick to a division rival. Cowboys might have gotten better but they might have made a division rival better as well.

Even if they "wasted" their pick the Cowboys still gave a division rival a chance to better themselves.

Watched a few games. Here's what I see:

- He has a nice looking body. Broaddus's prototypical comment makes sense to me.
- Doesn't have exceptional speed but isn't slow by any means.
- Needs more strength/mass. Probably will take 2 years to reach his potential but that's true of most players in the second round.
- Pretty good in space.
- Not the best at shedding a blocker when he needs to go laterally rather than forward.
- He's very good at sniffing out fakes and screens. Smart player.
- If the QB takes a 5-7 step drop and he isn't held, this guy will get his hands on the QB consistently. He has a good stable of swim and spin moves. Uses his hands well. Hard to block him consistently.
Very excited to see him in action and his improvement as we go through the year. Good stuff Theo.

I read about this guy earlier and like the numbers but I like Picks in the first 4 rounds. You could have had Jernigan and another pick to fill need in the 3rd. Don't like "all in" on a guy you feel you have to have. With that said I'm glad we went D

I can't deny this. I would love to have Jernigan but that's jsut me

So much overreaction far too soon. This guy was considered one of the premier pass rushers in the draft and now he's a Cowboy. For a team with a pass rushing deficiency, you would think most fans would be happy. We get a great pass rusher and still people complain. Yeah we gave up a third, but it will be worth the gamble if Lawrence lives up to expectations and helps get consistent pressure on the QB.

I watch him and I see amazing burst off the snap. It's about that first step.

Teams knew he was rushing upfield every down so they would run sprints right inside of him but the 3T and WLB especially are supposed to make the play. The will should be unblocked. It's not like he was losing outside contain all game long.

Not my ideal scenario, but I feel better about our team. We got stronger on each line. Looking at Bruce Ellington WR or Jaylen Watkins CB. in the 4th, then a lot more help for the Dline.

Reaching for need, complete opposite of what they did in 1st.

Pretty typical of Jones regime : one step up and two steps back.

I hope you're right.. Like I said .. no more negative because in Rod I do trust. Marinelli will get the most out of him and if he can't well... continue to draft smartly.. I've said all along this isn't a 1 year fix so I will wait and hope and root for my team. Always have... alway will. I think more than anything the draft smartly comment is the burning issue. We have so many holes and the analysis all say that drafting numbers is better than trying to draft what you think is a quality player. Someone put an article up the other day that explained this and you would think Jerry remembered this basic concept from Jimmy's days. More importantly, look at the modern teams that have improved rapidly: San Francisco, Seattle, and to a lesser extent Rams. They continue to stockpile picks and still improve. Somehow Jerry needs to remember this.
