Go watch his college film it aint there. His athletic testing numbers do not match what he did on the field
There is also the team he played for and the scheme they ran, again you could be right but if his physicals are there then that says there is talent there to unlock...the same way you dont give NCAA QB's full marks for blowing up in a air raid offense you also have to see that the Mich TE was not going to have godly stats.

Teams draft to improve their position(s) of weakness; not maintain status quo. I think Dallas should have picked an OG at #58 given current flux within OL as well as upgraded d-lines of our division opponents. I don’t think the TE Dallas picked is all that better than the two already on the roster. But will try and remain optimistic…

We need playmakers on this offense we dont have any. This kid like schultz cant break a tackle to save their lives
They added Cooks, Schoonmaker, and Vaughn. All of them should be playmakers. They also filled the huge need at defensive tackle with a difference maker. Schoonmaker averaged 12 yards a catch which moves the chains. He can move the chains as a pass catcher and a blocker.

I disagree. For certain personnel groups, the Cowboys need two starting quality tight ends. I believe they have confidence in Ferguson, but needed another Ferguson type player to start in two tight-end sets. It is Hendershot and McKeon they lack confidence in, not Ferguson.
Alright, here's the question: Heads up, can either handle, heads up, the newly gained Nolan Smith with the Eagles?

Doesnt have anything to do with stats. He doesnt run away from anyone and struggles to separate in the pass game. He would always get tackled by the first defender. That was consistent across his film.

I loved the mazi smith pick. He is an immediate starter that will impact the defense in a big way. Cooks, schoonbummer and vaughn have not done anything yet on this team. I do think the vaughn kid is a beast tho. I would love to see him try the return game too

Another instance where so called measureables do not show up on game tape. Supposedly he is big enough and strong enough to drag people, etc but I saw little of it.
There are very few players his size that can get separation.

You are on record of going against the scouts. We will see what happens. Personally, I think at worst he will be a solid player and at best he will be very good.

Washington was a project as a Receiver besides the red flags medically; frankly looking harder at La Porta I could see the appeal but injury concerns worried me.

Some scouts. Not all. I agree that he SHOULD be a solid player. More than that is very up in the air. I frankly do not agree with our TE coach that he was the best blocker in the draft at TE. But then that is coach speech after a guy is picked.

You don 't draft a backup TE with your 2nd rd pick.

I am pretty sure that the professional scouts have Schoonmaker in the top 90 across the board. Daniel Jeremiah had him at 71 and Dane Brugler had him at 90. A good chance that the Cowboys had him higher and very good chance that they would have lost him if they waited.

I thought of a 24 going to be 25 year old during the season blocking tight end with limited receiving ability as more of a 4th round talent

He certainly doesn't have limited receiving ability. He can run routes deep in the middle of the field and catch the ball. The pros have him rated as a top 90 player well above the 4th round.

You guys need to remember Schultz was a 4th round pick unathletic not asked to do much until flung into his starting role. Missed the big catch to win the rams game and a flip switched - he got better

Luke is coming into the NFL already a better more athletic prospect, blocking is already better than Dalton, give him some time with the juggs machine and Wells will develop him just like he did Dalton, who came from an even worse althletic background… people here are acting like Dalton came in as a Day 1 starter

I agree. But I think Mike wanted guys right now that could help, not later. His job is on the line. I think thats why we reached 1 rd too early with the TE. Thats why we went Deuce and not Evans. Flags galore.
The Cowboys have a plan especially MM. We as fans don’t know or understand it. He said what he wanted the Cowboys to do and the Joneses backed him. This draft potentially made the defense better if not elite. The draft gave us the best blocking tight end. Schoonmaker blocks defensive ends by himself. The draft gave us a young offensive lineman with position flex and plenty of game reps in Richards. Duece is one of the best offensive weapons in the draft. We got a developmental cornerback that can challenge in the future or if needed during the end of the season. The San Jose St. kid can play. The Cowboys will be tougher. This draft did not have many flashy players why else would two running backs get picked in the top 12.
