That's what I've been saying for the last twenty years that Dallas should be drafting a monster 1 tech DT but anyone that listens to these clowns in this organization that they prefer "VERSATILITY" on the defensive line(that's the reality), but we are one week into free agency this year and thus far the front office has done a good job when they've gone from their norm of doing little to nothing and made a couple of very good value trades for two starters(offense and defense).... but there's still some work to do no doubt but I don't see the rush going out and overpaying players which usually happens in week one(see Washingtons Commanders DT signing).

So, lets all take a wait and see what happens!!
The Commanders were right to pay Payne. He's a dominant interior player, arguably one of the 3-5 best in the NFL.

Let's go through this since bayeslife needs convincing (with some names, some team have multiple really good DTs):

NFCE - Philly, Giants and Skins are all better DT rotations
NFCS - Bucs (Vae, for example), Carolina (Williams), Falcons (Jarrett), Saints (Onyemata)
NFCN - Packers (Clark), Bears (Pennel), Lions (Brockers)
NFCW - Rams (Donald), 49ers (Hargrave)

AFCE - Jets (Williams), Bills (Oliver), Dolphins (Wilkins), Pats (Barmore)
AFCN - Steelers (Heyward), Browns (Tomlinson), Bengals (Reader)
AFCS - Tennessee (Simmons), Colts (Buckner)
AFCW - Chiefs (Jones)

So yea, our DT rotation is bottom 10, at least.
Packers have DeVonta Wyatt too who they just took in the first round. He’s a nice blend of pass rush and run D, Fletcher Cox comp a little bit

I don’t doubt that. But it’s a select few im sure. Anyone being realistic knows that most teams have meddling talent at DT. Maybe better than ours but not by much.
Except for the super bowl contenders. That's something I've been watching for years, and very seldom do the super bowl teams not have excellent DT play. I watched Cincy build a super bowl DLine in a couple years by signing Reader, Ogunjobi, and Hendrickson. That is why they beat KC in the champ game.

Oh for sure, quite a few teams have multiple DTs better than just one of ours - Giants, Steelers, 49ers, Colts, Bills, etc.

Yep. It's garbage. Osa is only lumped in by association. He's actually a nice player.

But the group as a whole is an embarrassment and will get you beat in the playoffs.

How many teams in the nfl off the top of your head would Osa be the best DT on? 5? Fewer? How many would he even start on? 10?There are 6-8 better DT’s in the NFCE alone. Fewer yet that Gallimore or Bohanna would start for.

To say it’s one of the NFL’s most neglected iDL’s isn’t an overstatement, it’s one of the NFL’s most neglected groups overall in recent history. No 1st rounders in a quarter century at DT, only team in the nfl not to do that. Last major FA acquisition was La’Roi Glover 20 years ago. He’s probably still the highest paid DT in cowboys history(maybe Jay Ratliff, which was still 15 years ago). At this point it’s not just neglect, it’s methodical. Jerry doesn’t believe in the position being an asset to nfl success.
While the teams that believe the opposite keep playing in super bowls.

Look at KC. W/ the best QB in the game, they're still drafting DT's. Took Karlaftis w/ their 1st last year. DT/DE type.

We are below "middling talent" at this point.

I can list 20 teams, at least, that have at least one DT much better than anything we have. There are teams that have 2 better than anything we have.

Jarrett is pretty much done, hence Onyemata signed with the Falcons!

Missed that signing. Jarrett has a pretty good year last year, including 6 sacks from the DT spot.

He'd be our best DT by far if we landed him.

The strength of a 4-3 defense is DL. It’s Football 101. But we neglect it until the mid-late rounds, like we do with Safety and QB.

"Pretty much done" Grady Jarrett's 2022 stats.

61 tackles, 6 sacks, 12 TFLs, 17 QB hits, 3 passes defensed.

He's 29 years old.

the lions have Avril mcneal and the panthers have Derrick Brown as well. I would ignore bayslife . He is the type of fan who fools themselves into believing the cowboys have a perfect roster. He probably watched Nick Hayden get pushed Backwards five yards for three seasons and thought he did a great job. I used to argue the cowboys need to sign or draft defense tackle too but, Jerry feels otherwise for some unknown reason

He spent a lot of time on the field. The 2 sacks I saw from him last year were from the QB being chased into him and not from what he created!

Jarrett can still play. It's kind of silly to suggest he's washed up.

Falcons understand DT play, hence adding Onyemata. Wish we thought that highly of the DT position.

Supposedly they’re moving Onyemata to 5t and Jarret to NT if initial reports are correct … so maybe not, or not what I would have considered best alignment!

What we’re they in 21?
LOL, he still had 59 tackles in 2021 on a bad Falcons defense. And came back and played well again in 2022.

Again, Jarrett is still a quality DT, much better than anything we have.

Bohanna plays like Joanna. Gallimore is 1/3 technique tweener that is average at both. Ziggy may be best suited for WWE and I dont even know who Rush is. When old Hankins is the premiere DT hope then your interior DL is a problem.
Haha pretty well said and pretty much true.
