The front office made the decision a few off seasons ago to not sign 30 year old players, be it their own or free agency, to expensive contracts. And it's a great decision. Yes, there will be off seasons like this one, where a weakness can't he filled by free agency, but that happens. The chances of guys like Chris Long and Mario Williams living up to their contracts is very low. And with the Oline coming up for renewal in the upcoming year, we can't waste any cap space on dead money.

I like it too. I say welcome aboard and good luck to him. Can't say that I ever heard of him, but I'd rather have him than the new Patriot Long. And if he shows something in camp and this season, all the know-it-alls in this thread will all go to their usual 'even a blind squirrel finds a nut' excuse to brush off their ignorance.

That's true for some guys and it's a good theory to follow so you don't over spend.

But there is this ...

Chris Long ... one year, 2 million dollar deal.

Benson Mayowa ... Was tendered by Oakland, so he will get $1,671,000.00

Granted Mayowa is younger. But you can't really pass on a one year, 2 million dollar deal for a guy like Chris Long.
