The difference between an immediate late one and Miami's immediate 12th pick in the second? 13-14 slots of difference at the top of the second round. It's not insignificant, but it's not huge.
That gap closes when you compare our immediate pick at what looked likely to be the very bottom of the third round to a likely mid-second one year removed.
Granted, we undperperformed badly in 08, and the value of the picks we gave up was significantly higher than we expected, but it's only fair to judge teams by the reasonable expectations for future picks at the time they make their trades.
You don't think Miami is expecting to be picking lower next year?
Here's another difference.
Miami still has room to play in this draft. They didn't shell out a ton from 1 draft, leaving themselves with little to work with.
Miami can (and probably will) trade to the end of the 1st and pick up a second rounder and then some.
Dallas gave away a lot in one draft and could only trade back to bolster their special teams and waiver wire.
Straight value is only part of the trade equation. The Marshall trade wins on value and wins in other areas as well.
That RW trade has stunk and gets a whole lot crappier with each new WR trade that goes down. Hopefully it starts to pay off a little more.
