I tend to agree with whomever said they were scared Moore's signing may steer JJ away from using this draft to fix the OL. IMO, I'd still draft Cooper if available at 18 even if I signed Moore. If we do that, we are suddenly fairly solid and deep from LT over to RG, which would be in stark contrast to the last few years.

I'm not a big Costa fan, but I don't think it's realistic to replace 4 starters in one offseason on the OL. Let's see what happens when you actually surround the guy with LEGIT guards (Moore and Cooper), and not two scrubs like Livings and Bernadeau.

I think we'll have to live with a Costa/Bernadeau competition during camp.

Remember, Cooper can reportedly play center as well. We need Cooper!

It's probably not realistic to replace 4 starters. But it is realistic to replace the make a wish C with a legitimate talent.

This is why drafting Jonathan Cooper is key. With being able to play guard and center, it gives the Cowboys flexibility and plenty of options on the OL.

If Costa stays healthy and has a solid year, then Cooper can solidify one of the guard spots.

Or

Costa stinks up the joint, you move Cooper to center and take your chances with Bernadeau, Livings or even Leary at the other guard spot. Just a thought.

While I think Costa is better than the scrub many on this board believe, I agree 10000%--Cooper will be ideal...Schwenke would be a nice fall back. Costa was improving, but that back injury might be a huge problem going forward.
Long would be a nice draft pick as well for similar reasons (RT/G).

Why does everyone fixate on the back injury when it was Costa's ankle that cost him so much time last season? He missed, what, 3 games because of his back, then came back and dislocated his ankle a week and half later.

And Costa was never as bad as some believed, and looked to have improved a good amount last offseason. I have questions about his health, and, like any position, if you can improve the talent there, you should do it, but he's a capable starter in this league, very likely our expected OC for the next few years, and probably not somebody they team's planning on replacing early in the upcoming draft.

And if they were, it wouldn't be with a career OG who learned to take a few snaps to try to up his draft stock. It'd be with Bernadeau, or with a 3rd round career college OC.

costa has had ONE game where he looked like a capable starter. No way after the way he stank it up the year before is that enough to lable him as one.

There are others. Pugh and Jones are also capable of playing both.

J.C. Tretter is my pet cat at the position but he probably couldn't start right away.

Brandon Moore - G - Jets
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Total Access Friday that free agent OG Brandon Moore remains unsigned because he "wants starter money."
Starter money on the 2013 free-agent market for a guard is something between $3.5 million annually (Donald Thomas) and $7.8 million per year (Andy Levitre). Moore is probably targeting a Thomas-like deal, but getting $1.5 million to $2.5 million offers. 33 years old, Moore has visited the Lions and Dolphins while drawing lighter interest from the Cowboys and Bears.

We've been round this tree before, but that's just not right. He had some limitations the year prior, but he wasn't near as bad as some wish to believe, and he improved as he went along. Hence the team rolling with him again last year as the starter.

And the ONE game you're referring to where he looked like a capable starter he actually looked like much more than a capable starter.

Haven't heard about any veteran visits, hopefully they'll be some movements this week and it won't be too boring, I think they might wait til after the draft when they come cheaper as well, who knows

I could live with $3.5 for Moore.

$3M was about the number I was assuming we'd be talking with him. In that same ballpark, anyway.

Romo needs to be beating on doors: "Listen, I saved you almost $5 million, get it done!"

This will simply have to wait until after the draft. Dallas will take BPA in a position of need. I have a feeling that this is the year that fans get what they want. Dallas will try to get both Cooper and Terron Armstead. Now if someone like short falls to the 2nd and they are able to get him, then they will bring in a veteran tackle.

I could honestly see the draft unfolding like this with a few drops.

1 Jonathan Cooper or Warmack
2 Kawan Short, Syvester Williams,or best available DT
3 Terron Armstead, Brenan Williams,or best available OT
4 best available FS

So if you invest heavily in the Oline and Leary emerges, bringing in vets like Moore and Winston would be a terrible move. If better players fall and Dallas goes in a different direction, they can always pick up these guys after the draft.

He got pushed back into Romo or knocked right on his arse many more times than I care to remember that year.. lets not start acting like he was dependable in any way. He was terrible.

If this were to happen, I'd have a permanent smile on my face for weeks! Unfortunately, I have my doubts that Cooper makes it to us in the 1st and I'm not sure that Armstead makes it to us in the 2nd.

He was also very young and thrown into the starters position after we unexpectantly cut Gurode. Young players do get better, they also get stronger as they mature into the position. Its extremely possible!

It definitely is.

And he looked great in that Baltimore game.

That said, the most important ability is availability.

And he hasn't shown that so while in find with keeping him around, I'm not interested in putting all my eggs in that basket either.

Find another option and let both compete but have options.

He is one of the strongesr players on the team right now. Strength is not his problem. He has other physical limitations that prevents him from being a quality starter.

Buyers market for FA Olineman right now.

Ideally, teams like Dallas and Chicago and others would like to wait until after the draft to grab one of these guys if necessary.
Also, there will be even more available after June 1, so if they have no great luck in the draft there woud still be time to move.

I'm not sayng to don't kick the tires on all of these guys, but internally they really want to land a starting Guard in the draft and if they also want to start one of the guys already o the roster, getting an average older FA Guard right now may not be in the cards.
