I was hoping someone here could help translate for me. Training in 3 weeks? Playing in 6 weeks? 10 weeks before he plays? I read this as it could be 3-10 weeks before he possibly plays?

I *think* he is saying that if he is able to start training in 3 weeks then he could play in 6, but if it takes 6 weeks before he can start training, then it might be 10 before he plays. It was not worded well, that is for certain.

Just cant believe that after watching Romo break like a china doll last year and now this year, that all these guys want for Romo to get back on the field. As if he is going to take us to the promise land or something. These cats will never face reality.
And what a shame. When they could be enjoying the growth and maturation of Dak Prescott and this young offense.

It's fandom overruling sanity. Hopes and feelings overriding logic.

I just hope that it no longer extends to the organization, but based on prior track record and the stock the entire group puts into comfort, I'm not overly optimistic.

From the doc's report it is about contact and when he can chance that because one thing we know for certain, there will be contact. For his sake, I am hopeful that Dak can carry the mantle and they don't rush him back because he'd be all for that. If they would clear him, I am sure he'd play in the first game.

They met with him like 4 or 5 times before the draft. I would think that counts as them scouting him.

I don't think anyone expected him to do what he has done thus far.

So it can be a little bit of both....we did our due diligence on the guy and maybe we got a bit lucky. Bout damned time too!

Yep.

No team drafts a QB in the 4th round and expects to see what we have so far.

It's asking a lot for the #1 QB in the draf to show what he has shown as a rookie in the PRESEASON.

We'll see...

I think he's back soon.

Lucky for us our first 4 games are soft.

2-2 or 3-1 would be huge.

1-3 or 0-4 would probably mean season over.

Backup QB was such a huge priority this offseason and we ignored it but luckily we stumbled into Dak.

not trying to be argumentative but how can you say backup QB was ignored when we drafted a QB in rd 4?

Regardless of when or if Romo comes back, I don't think it will be long before a routine hit puts him out again.

In this latest injury, the way he entered his slide looked like his back was too stiff to let him lay out properly and get more horizontal. As a result, he landed too upright, like someon pulled a chair out from under him, which in turn caused the hit to land straight and result in the compression fracture. (Disclaimer: not a doctor -- just a pessimist.) That tells me that his back just plain isn't right -- which may be fine in practice or in games when he isn't touched. But add in contact, and I'm doubtful his back will hold up -- or more precisely, will let him quickly enter into a defensive position that could minimize injury, leaving him more vulnerable and more prone to serious consequences.

Not sure how much of an update it is, but it's something.

... If Romo's ready to train again in 3 weeks, could be back playing in 6 weeks. If that takes 6 weeks, could be 10 weeks before he plays.

One area where Cowboys and Tony Romo dodged a bullet -- No ligament damage in Romo's back, I'm told. Should be training again in 3-6 weeks.

David Carr on NFLN was discussing the fact that he had this same injury. Said it didn't hurt so much as just took his strength away for about a month and a half. So even if Romo feels good enough to go it would probably be a detriment to the team unless he can get his full velocity on the ball.

I agree.

My biggest fear is they go overly conservative with Dak hoping he can hold down the fort for a brittle Romo to come back. Get creative, tailor the offense for Dak and lets get balling. We can open up the entire playbook with Dak. If they do it right he could provide us with some advantages. Growing pains aside.

Ok.. We did the bare minimum and possibly got lucky..

Stephen McGee was a 4th rounder as well. We're lucky that this seems to be more than that right now.

Three injuries in his last 91 snaps from center, all broken bones.

Let him go, it's not worth the risk to his health and future quality of life. Let's not be selfish, heed the warning signals.

I would rather have a walking Tony Romo inducted into the Ring of Honor than an invalid Tony Romo rolled up to the Hall of Fame.

It could easily go that way if the Cowboys coaches call plays like they did last year..

They have been more dynamic this pre-season than the regular season last year so hopefully they don't go into a shell.

I don't trust this staff at all but Dak has playmaking ability so he could possibly overcome their crap with his running.
Couldn't agree more on the staff. Until they show they aren't who we think they are, they are just that. They need to call this just as if Romo was out there.

Might be risky but if I was Booger, I'd sit down with this coaching staff and let them know they need to play to win and conservative won't work, We've got to score points and put the other offense in a higher risk mentality, just as we did in 2014. I would even tell them no one is losing their job...........unless they coached scared.

Stephen Jones has came out and said they didn't expect this from Dak.

Kellen Moore was never an answer. That was some status quo bs.

Dak Prescott is saving all butts right now. Let's see if he carries it over into the regular season because if he can't our season is over thanks to the backup situation they IGNORED.
So who was the saving grace in the back up QB role that they should have gotten? Matt Moore? Colt McCoy? Nick Foles? Please all those guys pretty much suck as much as Kellen Moore.

Doctors have said that he can start throwing again in 2 weeks to maintain his strength. So 2 weeks from the injury, the season still hasnt even started.

He'll be back week 5 is my prediction.

My job isn't to sit around and make these decisions. Their job is and they handled it half ***'d.

Did they "stumble into Dak" or did they actually scout him?

I heard some scouts were fighting for him to be picked at 34. I think the coaching staff talked them out of it and the coaches also thought Conner Cook was more NFL ready. Yes I do think we may have lucked out that he was still there in the 4th round.

Broken collarbones are ZERO risk to health....ever. Like if he had 50 of em, doesnt hurt his quality of life at all.

I'll take the under on week 5 unless we are 3-1.

Romo was ready to go back in the other night. I still won't be shocked if he slips into the Giants game somehow.

Stephen McGee was a 4th rounder as well. We're lucky that this seems to be more than that right now.
But they did try and trade back in and get Lynch and then tried to get Cook, so it's not really the same as when they took McGee. The most interesting thing about this season, so far, is that we failed twice to get higher rated QBs and as of right now, have the best rookie QB of the bunch.

And they did take a hard look at the available FA's and that deal Osweiler got wrecked that. That caused Fitzpatrick to hold back as well. And those were the top 2 with the same thing in common, both had much better D's than we do.
