So who was the saving grace in the back up QB role that they should have gotten? Matt Moore? Colt McCoy? Nick Foles? Please all those guys pretty much suck as much as Kellen Moore.

Teams never let QB's that are good get away, even backups. But you could have addressed through the draft. If I'm not mistaken Teddy Bridgewater was taken one pick before and Derek Carr was taken two picks after Demarcus Lawrence. Again, if I'm GM I'm going to devote resources to the QB position.

Stumbled?

Yeah. In fairness to the Cowboys, he was a player we were associated with frequently before the draft. We did our homework and got a guy who then exceeded all expectations, but it wasn't stumbling.

If this season goes south the club may have a good shot at drafting a franchise QB next draft.

Stumbled?

Yes.. I don't know why this is so hard to admit. Even Stephen Jones is saying they might've got lucky and didn't expect this.

Nothing wrong with being lucky.. It's about time we hit big in the middle of the draft.

They could have one already.

Dak could be the guy, he may not.

If he comes through this season and carries a 90 QB rating then I'm all in.

And if the Cowboys still had a chance at a franchise QB come next April, then I'm potentially trading the pick.

I can't give them a pass for giving effort and not getting anything done.

Depending on Rookies was a bad game plan IMO. We needed a real vet QB regardless. Kellen Moore and the run run pass offense was never going to cut it.
Name the vet QB they could have signed?

That is what I mean, the time table is all over the place, and we will not get a straight answer from the team.
I realize they may not even know until another week or so. But even then, it will be day to day crap.
I also read he could start throwing in a few weeks. But that was before this 3 to 6 weeks tweet came out.
I read that he could easily be throwing in two weeks because the injury would in no way hinder his throwing ability (according to some doctor in an article that I read somewhere this morning...I'd post the link if I could remember where to find it, but I'm old and don't remember much of anything anymore). If that is, in fact, accurate, then you'll begin to see all kinds of estimates that will shorten his return date once he starts throwing. My opinion (which is nothing more than a fan's opinion) is that he will be throwing right around the beginning of the regular season and able to return to the field after the fourth game (that would be 6 weeks from the time of the injury, which is the normal recovery time for a bone to heal, from everything I've read). We just need to hope that Dak can play .500 ball in those first four games and that Romo can come in and play to the level that most of us expect to get through the season in a winning fashion.

Did they "stumble into Dak" or did they actually scout him?
Well, if he works out Jerry threw a dart at a board of QBs and hit Dak so they picked him. If he doesn't work out, countless hours were spent scouting and interviewing him. That's kinda how it works

It's going to be interesting. .500 ball or lower, Tony definitely comes back and the decision is an easy one. It's possible Dak does better than that, though, and puts the coaches in a pickle. It'd be a great problem to have.

agreed....don't understand the unwillingness to give the FO credit on getting Dak with intent to fill a need. Yes it's early but at this point it appears they potentially filled 2 needs in acquiring a capable back up QB and someone with potential to be our future answer to the position. Not sure what else is expected....scouted, drafted and they're developing him like teams are supposed to do.

I think Romo comes back and plays some mop up duty the rest of the year.

I think the contention is using the word "stumbled" could imply unprepared selection of the QB without research.

I believe if they don't heal properly they can lead to arthritis later in life. But I don't think Tony will have that issue since he's got access to the best medical treatment possible.

Mayoclinic has a very short list:

  • Nerve or blood vessel injury. The jagged ends of a broken collarbone may injure nearby nerves and blood vessels. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice numbness or coldness in your arm or hand.
  • Poor or delayed healing. A severely broken collarbone might heal slowly or incompletely. Poor union of the bones during healing can shorten the bone.
  • A lump in the bone. As part of the healing process, the place where the bone knits together forms a bony lump. This lump is easy to see because it's close to the skin. Most lumps disappear over time, but some are permanent.
  • Osteoarthritis. A fracture that involves the joints that connect your collarbone to your shoulder blade or your breastbone might increase your risk of eventually developing arthritis in that joint.
None of them are overly debilitating, however.

But as was previously stated, they met with him several times.
Well, they wanted to trade up to get Lynch and later Cook. Because that did not happen they lucked into Dak.
Granted, they didn't expect what we're seeing, but they felt he was worth the pick over a lot of defensive players.
