Not sure what your point is here.Steele was an UDFA and they got him to play well.
They get guys like that every year. Not sure what your point is here.
This is a podcast (Bootleg Football) that I always try to catch, mainly because one of the best football guys around, Brett Kollmann, is on there. Kollmann really knows the in’s and out’s of football. He knows just about everything there is to know about the NFL game, from a technique and technical standpoint. He always gives some great knowledge and I always try to catch his stuff. He is fantastic IMO. More football knowledge than just about anyone else you can watch.
In this video, they’re going over his and EJ Snyder’s favorite draft classes. They don’t like draft “grades” but they do like some team’s drafts more than others, so they each pick their top 3 draft classes. I recommend watching the whole thing if you have time but it is pretty long, so at least go to the part about Dallas. I will give you the times to skip to below.
Kollmann has Dallas as his 3rd favorite draft class and in the video he goes over the class and why he likes it so much. Then, After EJ talks about the Cowboys draft, Brett talks specifically about Mazi Smith and why he liked that pick so much.
It is another viewpoint on the Dallas picks and will let Cowboys fans see the players from a different perspective. But more than that, it is a viewpoint from one of the few guys out there that I really appreciate his understanding of football. I highly recommend him in any video / Podcast.
They start talking about the Cowboys draft at about the 3:20 min mark.
They talk specifically about Mazi Smith at about the 10:00 min mark.
This is true for most of the pundits and even the NFL itself given hit rates. What I like about him is he goes into entailed explanation as to why he thinks what he thinks. I have learned a lot from watching him over the years.Gotta keep it 100 here and be honest in that Kollman's old youtube video break downs were tragically off.
I appreciate he likes the Dallas class and it is smart to like Dallas' classes because they have "hit" about 8 out of 10 years.
But his personal scouting was just so bad that I stopped taking him seriously.
Yup LB can stay home for their reads as opposed to having to charge on any run look. You don't need heavy boxes all the time.I do appreciate the discussion they had involving Mazi and his his presence as a fun stopper doesn’t just affect the run game.
Having a DT like him in the middle allows the safeties to play further back, which helps the pass defense.
Also, staying out of 2nd and 3rd and shorts helps the pass defense by making the opponent one dimensional and allowing the pass rushers to think pass rush first.

and the original post said when fully healthy they were one of the best defenses. what's the point that proves that statement wrong again? And once LVE and or Hankins were out they couldn’t stop the run

Precisely. And once LVE and or Hankins were out they couldn’t stop the run
That's the big difference. LB play should improve this season.Yup LB can stay home for their reads as opposed to having to charge on any run look. You don't need heavy boxes all the time.
The way he attacks double teams I want to see him picking on stunts. He will crush lanes open.
He's a young, energetic self-taught scout and I appreciate he has been able to make a name for himself and a good career in a nasty field to crack. This is true for most of the pundits and even the NFL itself given hit rates. What I like about him is he goes into entailed explanation as to why he thinks what he thinks. I have learned a lot from watching him over the years.
That's what I see too. I'm excited about this defense.Yeah, talking about the ball skills… used to the only DB Dallas had that was half-way decent at getting INT’s was Jourdan Lewis. Now he is, at most, the 4th best DB at getting them. Diggs, Gilmore and Bland all have great ball tracking and ball skills.
What a difference that makes. And if Mazi can push the pocket on passing downs the edge guys are going to get home more often than they did the last two years, and the chances to intercept the ball will only rise.
Eagles offense works because teams have to account for the deep pass. They run into light boxes and numbers advantages, exclusively. My man you are making zero salient points and not even approaching any factual data.
Eagles ran to set up deep passes.
49ers were great all year with a pop gun offense that ran the ball and played defense.
They were the #12th rated defense. Hardly arguably one of the best.and the original post said when fully healthy they were one of the best defenses. what's the point that proves that statement wrong again?
that stat is from when they were healthy? based on points allowed in the first 7 weeks i'd doubt that. yards per game is not a good indicator. They were the #12th rated defense. Hardly arguably one of the best.

But it is tough to be uber detailed and just 100% wrong and he has been a lot.
His Jabril Peppers breakdown was just hilariously bad. And the film he was talking over showed why.
We had that thread here in this forum and my comments at that time, real-time still exists somewhere archived.
Peppers was clearly a box player and he touted him as a godsend slot.
Rated him a high R1 grade.
He was a massive R1 bust thats now been on 3 NFL teams.
His collegiate tape showed a great playmaker who made 95% of his plays coming forward at the LOS.
His limited slot work was versus non-NFL types who were hardly blanketed.
That has followed as he took well over half his snaps last year in the box after being abused in NY and CLE when asked to cover.
But end of day it is just me saying I can't get too high and love up Kollman now for liking this Cowboys draft if I don't trust his actual draft scouting work.
So it's me not him.
But I sure hope he is right.
