wasn't it you who said you can't tell anything until the pads come on? Or does that apply only when a report is good?

This is strange. Arkin's been starting in the mini camps. Why play the guy with the ones if he has no shot? Why not give Leary all the reps, or Kowalski, or Costa. What Broaddus says doesn't gel with what the coaching staff are doing.

Arkin is a easy choice as the odd man out, but let him buckle the chin strap and see where he really is . I like broaddus but he is batting about .100 on his predictions and evaluations.

Yeah, hard to evaluate someone when they are in shorts and not playing for real.

That was my thought as well when I heard he's been splitting time with Leary at RG with the 1's in practice, while Costa and Kowalski are with the 2's so far. I know it's early, but still, it's not like they've already buried him on the depth chart. It'll probably get clearer very quickly once the pads come on and they go to full contact in the mini-camp and TC, and it'll be apparent whether he's built enough strength to compete. But for now, they don't seem to be treating Arkin like he's got no shot, so I'm still hopeful for him until proven otherwise.

Yea...I have struggled with Bryant, Harris and Hanna from last season...I was wrong too about them signing Winston when ESPN said they would talking to him...I didnt hit the Webb pick along with the Williams selection in the draft...maybe I need to try a little harder...you think?

You don't need to defend yourself.

You'll never make the internet happy. I like that you're objective. It's impossible to always be 100% right about every player.

Not sure Broaddus is saying you need to move on from Arkin. He may be saying the person asking the question needs to move on. Broaddus took to arkin as apet cat when many scouting bodies loved him. He hasn't panned out ... yet. Maybe he never does but he was a 4th round pick forma small school not a 1st or 2nd guaranteed to help you in this league.

Regardless of what the answer means we will obviously know one way or the other at the end of TC.

Arkin does seem a poor fit for Callahan who CLEARLY likes big, strong guys regardless of how much zone blocking he institutes.

I have no pet cats, Cowboy fan means I'm a fan of every player on this team I pull for each one and hope the best for each one. That means guys who have been around for a while and those trying to make the team.

I don't get satisfaction out of seeing any of the player fail.

Broaddus has never been a fan of Arkin dating back to his first TC here, had he had something nice to say about him at this point i'd get really excited

 lol ok pal. Thanks for clearing that up. Next time I'll have exact dates handy.

So what will the excuse be next year IF he makes the roster this and doesn't play again? I look forward to that ridiculous excuse making. Should be fun to hear.

if he makes the roster that speaks for itself.

he isn't on nay timeline but the coaching staff and front offices.

we gave up on stephen peterman and he became a long-time nfl starter.

ol generally can be developed over time. they dont have ot be great day 1.

arkin certainly looks like a bust but the final story isn't written yet.

True, If Nate Newton was given only 2 years to prove himself he would have been out of the leauge. He was cut by the Commanders as a rookie, went off to the USFL then to Dallas where he was in and out of Landry dog house. It took Nate a good while before he became a good OL player for the Cowboys.

Not claiming Arkin will make it or not but this 2 year notion is non sense

Peterman was a mediocre guard on a mostly lousy O line for Detroit. You are about the only one that regrets him being gone.
He had shown nothing and had a bad knee. But then again reality....

You can't expect mid-round picks from small schools to all hatch into game-ready NFL starters. Hopefully, though, you'll see some signs early that they're scratching at that shell and trying to break out. Maybe in year two, they're little hatchlings. Too weak to fly on their own, but you can see that one day they probably will. If you're three years in, and the egg isn't showing any signs of life yet, you're probably sitting on a dud. And there's not that much room in the nest.

I think we'd all agree that Arkin needs to break out of the shell this training camp, and that it's not necessarily looking all that likely he's going to. At the end of camp is the appropriate time to kick him out of the nest if he's not showing significant signs of becoming an NFL-capable player.

Clearly he has to go out and earn a roster spot. I can't sit here and say he will or won't make the team right now. With training camp fast approaching it falls on him to go out and give the coaching staff a reason to continue to invest time on him.

Kind of odd that Callahan has him with the starters since Bernadeau is out. He didn't draft the guy, it looks like Leary would be the guy he has in there.

It is. Without pads on, though, it might just be because they want guys out there who know what they're doing for purposes of example. Arkin's got the most reps in the system.

Sometimes early in camps, too, they'll give guys shots with the ones just to see how they look in order to make sure they're giving them an honest evaluation if they think the guys questionable. That wouldn't be going on in OTAs, obviously, but the point is that running with the ones, while usually a very good sign, isn't necessarily an indication of what the early pecking order is expected to be.

Similarly, they had Will Allen starting with the ones early on at safety, too. And I think that's mostly because of his familiarity with the system rather than in indication that they think he's going to end up starting for us week one.

Thats not true...I have done nothing but defend the kid and the pick since the day he has arrived...I have admited that I missed on him...thought he would have at least been competing for a job...this is his last shot...my answer to the question on twitter was that I had moved on and maybe it was time for the person asking the question to move on as well...I hope this summer that he proves my lack of faith wrong....

So what is he lacking? Is he still just not strong enough? Is it technique? Between the ears? Heart? Desire?

I think as a fan its hard for us to know why someone ends up as a bust, simply because we aren't around the player. Its hard to judge by watching tape because we don't know assignments. We don't know his attitude, how hard he works, how money affects his play. We just see a fourth round pick that appeared to have some talent not playing.

The time Broaddus spends replying to Twitter posts -- and now responding to stuff here -- is truly amazing. Agree with him or not, he really works at getting information to fans
