Twitter: Broaddus says "I have thought all along that Carr stays"

As I said in another post. Carr and Mo are perfect corners for Marinelli's defense. Marinelli likes his defense to get no sacks, turnovers and don't even think about stopping the run. First page of the Defensive playbook has in big bold letter: "Don't waste energy stopping the run". In Marinelli's defensive system the players are told to run around the field but at no time make any football type plays.

Carr is the team captain and role model of this bold new strategy.

Like his Bears D from 2010-2012? Yeah, they only averaged around 22 INT's those 3 years

His base salary is 9.1 million and his cap hit is 13.817

This should end the discussion (not really of course:D); he's been one of the most overpaid and under performing players in the league the last two seasons. I hear renegotiate and it makes me shudder. Use some of that post June 1st cut money to scoop Heyward?

I have been saying this all along. Do not expect any changes in the secondary :(

I am ok with this as long as the front seven is improved quite a bit. A better rush = better coverage but if Dallas is done up front, we are in for a long season again.

Every team in the league has value vets playing such positions. Carrs's the only contract that needs to be addressed, and it looks like it will be.

Yeah, other teams do have value vets.

But, we have 30 million in cap designated to our secondary right now.

The problem is, we have a habit of choosing the wrong ones. I can think of a lot of options that'd make us a better team with the money allocated to Carr and Church, and possibly a Tyron restructure.

I'll wait and see what Carr accepts, but the more time that goes by the less alternatives we have.

Two man corners in a zone scheme (CHI), what could go wrong (oh, it already did and we're keeping them). Yikes to this FO.

I agree that guys post was pretty ridiculous. Marinelli is a good coach and he emphasizes turnovers. He's had a lot of success in that regard.

However, even he needs talent to work with. He had a legitimate shutdown corner in Tillman who is probably the most underappreciated CB of this generation. He was one of the few guys I saw manning against CJ in his prime and doing it well. His safeties weren't world beaters but they were solid, and they had talent in their front 7.

Our defense right now can't really compare to that team.

Makes absolutely no sense, I can't think of one thing he's good at and he's immensely over paid

It makes sense if he takes a paycut. He is an average corner who is getting paid top dollar.

Cut his salary in half like Doug Free did. Everyone hated Free before. Now when Romo gets crushed we kinda shrug.

Now, that's the legitimate argument - having the right guys for the scheme. Now, I've always wondered if part of the secondary issues are that they haven't had a decent cover safety in years to help them out..........

how much does he make this year?.alteast try to renegotiate

They already asked him to take a pay cut and he laughed in their face.

I may sound like Trump here, but you got to have leverage to negotiate a deal and the other side has to know you are serious about using that leverage, that is how deals are made.

We have no leverage right now because we don't have any starting caliber CBs behind Carr that can take over his job. So when we ask him to take a pay cut and he laughs in our face, it is because he knows we have no leverage right now. He apparently doesn't think we are going to release him, thus he doesn't think our threats are serious.

that's why I don't have any confidence that 2016 will be much better than 2015 more likely a repeat.

Isn't it a little frustrating to see the FO, sit on their hands over the Carr contract. Last year and this.
Other teams have realised their mistakes and taken strides to minimize the damage.
Just look at philly this year ! They have managed to jettison the bad deals they made last year and come out of it without being in cap hell.
Why won't our front office, do the same ?
Didn't he make like 14 million or something stupid like that ?
Why sit on their ***** w years in a row !!!

Always been a fan of Tillman.. And you're right he has always been underrated

Yeah, but that's mostly due to Carr's contract. Our S spending is middling. With Carr and Claiborne at the end of their deals, this is a bit of a bubble year for that position. Carr will get redone, we'll still be top-10 in spending for that group, but it'll be manageable.

This is what happens when you pay big premiums for good players in free agency. I know you know that, but it's illustrative of why we're sitting on our hands right now.

Last year he had the leverage. This year he does not. He'll take a pay cut, and you can bet we've approached him about it.

Hard to believe that a defense that set historical records for lack of turnovers is going to be brought back pretty much intact for this season.

Minus Hardy.

This team builds through the draft. We'll add a few veterans, but he change was always going to come from the college ranks.

Well the first week of FA isn't even over quite yet and already we've dramatically improved the weakest player on our defense. The reign of Velcro is over and the people, they rejoiced.
