Ok, I've made it clear to everyone on the forum that I've hated this pick since the minute the trade was announced. Guys like Decastro, Wagners and even Jenkins IMO are all outplaying this kid. That being said, I've always hated the pick b/c of the resources given up to attain him, not necessarily the player so much. I didn't make a big hoopla about his injuries in the preseason but I did make a mental note that the kid seemed too comfortable pulling himself out when it was obvious he needed reps. Well this tweet from Broaddus today is making me wonder if we have a kid with an attitude problem. Not necessarily that he's a bad guy, he seams like a sweet kid off the field, but that he's too content missing practice (he keeps missing them for migraines too)...that's how I interpret Broaddus' tweet.

@BryanBroaddus on a scale of 1-10, how do your rate Claiborne so far in his career?

@BryanBroaddus @gregsimmons16 It's still early, look at Dez for example. Started off slow, now a stud.

@BryanBroaddus @alexander92dc @gregsimmons16 hmm can you expand on this BB?

@Rmcneal214 Just look how they approach the game each week. That tells you all you need to know.

Its was too early to call him a bust. He hasnt lived up to expectations to say the least.
Im sure there are plenty of zoners who will love to expand on how much he sucks. Then how much the team sucks. lol

MO Clai...is not a guy I am Happy about...

But if he was our only problem, we would be in a better situation, and I would be happy.

Our issues are deeper than a second year player. It starts with Attitude, and passion for the game, and I think Dez pointed to that, without even trying to.

This is pretty much what I expected. Actually maybe a little worse. Which is why I hated the pick. And especially what we did to get him. You see that a lot with guys who play in the big time conferences on good teams. Their actual skill is actually inflated. They are on national tv all the time, in a national championship game and playing around great players. And everyone thinks you are great.

For a top 5 or whatever pick and forfeiting what we did, yeah you had to expect way more.

that was pretty much my point for the thread. does claiborne have that attitude and passion to continue to improve and reach the high level of play that everyone is expecting from him? broaddus sort of alluded to him not having it...at least not on the level of dez when it comes to preparation leading up to games.

Hard for me to be that hard on him as he's been hurt. Most of these corners cannot play that well hurt. However, to say I'm concerned is a tad on the gentle side. Most of us said he needed to perform well to justify the loss of the second rounder. That's not to say that both the first and second rounder could be a bad draft but it's fair to think we'd have done better.

That'll be the new cliche but no amount of loving the game will make untalented players any more effective.

This teams problems are a lack of talent on defense and a lack of coaching on offense. That's pretty much proven. Kiffin and Marinelli can take guys off the street because they have no other option and get them to play well while all the prized resources dedicated to the offense haven't payed off yet.

Can we all agree that the whole Claiborne thing is headed in the wrong direction?

That is such a joke. It is mainly due to name. The first 4 games he really struggled and gave up tons of pressure and not very good run blocking.

Due to name? What name? This is his first year playing pretty much as he only had a couple games last year. There are certainly bigger OG names than David DeCastro. There are a number of very good OGs out there. Grubbs, Mathis, Levitre, Mankins, Yanda.

PFF has him as their #3 OG. He's had positive grades in 5 of 7 games, 1 negative grade of -0.2 and one 0.0 grade.

They also have him with the 4th highest run block grade for OGs.

Well, in hindsight it would have been much better to have kept Mike Jenkins at a minimal salary and drafted DT Brockers and LB Wagner. But, all teams have decisions which they wish they could do over.

Most here and pretty much the general consensus at the time was that it was a good trade. So far, it hasn't been a good trade and is not looking very promising. No use crying over spilt milk.

the Steelers are in a bigger mess than the Cowboys on the OL. Theyve given up 27 sacks. Decastro took out Pouncey for the yr trying to chop block but got Pouncey instead. Decastro is bad.

I still hold out hope for the guy because as others have pointed out, he has been injured quite a bit.

Problem is that he now seems to be injured quite frequently and his play has suffered.

Consequently, I am disappointed that he has been injured so frequently and that he has not been that great considering where he was drafted and what resources the team gave up to draft him accordingly.

Hopefully he will get healthy and improve on the field this season, perhaps putting it all together for the third season but only time will tell.

DeCastro? His claim to fame so far is that he took out his own team's best OL Pouncey with a blind chop block. Maybe the biggest, most idiotic block in the history of the NFL.
