The only thing you are right about is athletes die every year. Why do you link drugs, guns and women to this man? Because he is a rich black athlete and that is what they do? From all accounts he is a good one, and you are here dirtying his name.

If the pope got killed in a drive by would you say it was drugs, guns or women?

First of all, the Pope got shot, he didnt get killed. Second, that's a horrible analogy, as there are obvious reasons why one would want to kill the pope outside of illegal drugs.

Finally, yes, fortune and fame often bring with them temptations of a life of questionable character. Numerous athletes in all the major sports of all colors, backgrounds and ages are involved in them.

Bill Romanowski, WHITE athlete
Ray Lewis, BLACK athlete
The numerous HISPANIC athletes in baseball who illegally take drugs and steroids
The numerous EUROPEAN athletes in soccer and cycling who womanize, drink and use drugs and steroids

I could go on until sundown, but you get the idea. Race and color and have little to do with it. Money and opportunity do.

Good post.

You don't have to be of a certain ethnic background to be a scumbag (not saying Darrent Williams was; by all accounts, he was a good guy. Just replying to your post).

Why does this type of thing happen, I pray he was not involved insomething that antagonized it and was genuinely gunned down by a nonsensical murderer who will soon be brought to justice. Shocking, Keith Davis is lucky not to be in the same position.

No its a horrible post, I am really trying to be PC about this but its about time you call a spade a spade. I bet if this was a white athlete, a european athlete or a hispanic athlete, he would not be saying what he is saying. he is just letting ignorance spew out his mouth. There is no reason to connect this man to drugs or guns yet he has done so. A good person was shot and killed, the reason we don't know, it could have been a simple act of gang violence or a crazed fan or some other reason, but to come here and link him to drugs and guns is pathetic. There is no reason to do so.

wouldn't surprise me at all if the limo itself drew the fire... hating the rich is a national past-time anymore.

Hopefully, he wasnt and this was just a senseless act of violence. All I'm saying is, don't be shocked if it turns out to be more than that.

aw, don't get your hypersensitive feelings all frazzled. Some people are just looking for a reason to be offended and drop the race card.

I'll guaran-freaking-tee you that if ANY athlete was shot and killed in the wee hours of the morning after leaving a nightlclub they would be discussing the possibilities of drugs and women, because THAT is what people get shot for in the wee hours of the morning after leaving a nightlclub.

I take serious offense to this. I am not, and have never been, anything even close to resembling a racist. I don't judge people based on the color of their skin. I judge people based on their content of character. I don't know Darrent Williams, I'm basing a POSSIBLE scenario on events that have occured in the past involving athletes with fortune and fame. You know as well as I do that there is that possibility, even if it was not he who was involverd but one of the friends in the car with him.

Hating the rich is fed by certain political types and the media; they pretty much come out and say that if you are rich you stole it from somone. Since you stole it, you don't deserve it; and it should be taken away. That kind of BS will resonate with some; if Darrent Williams did not do anything and it was just a random thing, I bet that is what happened. Or some punks just wanting to shoot their guns. Anyway you look at it- just plain senseless. An indication of the lack of morals, discipline, and charactor in our society.

Heres the latest from KUSA here in Denver.. 16 people in the limo including WR Javon Walker..
------------------------------------------

According to Denver Police, Williams was killed in an early morning shooting after someone with a gun pulled up alongside the white Hummer stretch limousine he and wide receiver Javon Walker were riding in and fired multiple shots.

Police say 16 people were in the stretched Hummer at the time of the shooting, including Williams and Walker. Authorities say Walker was not shot.

Police say the shooting happened near 11th Street and Speer Boulevard at 2:30 a.m. on Monday.

Some of the streets in the area were shut down during the investigation.

Authorities say they are searching for a white GM model car, either a Suburban or a Tahoe with dark tinted windows. Anyone with any information regarding the incident should call Denver Police.

Three people were shot and police say the limo was sprayed with bullets. At the scene, 9NEWS could see what appeared to be ten bullet holes in the limo.

Police say the three were taken to area hospitals where Williams was pronounced dead.

Authorities say the other two victims who were shot suffered minor injuries. Their names were not immediately released.

Team spokesman Jim Saccomano says he spoke with Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan and others in the organization after police told him of the incident.

"Complete shock. We're speechless. It takes words away. A terrible tragedy," Saccomano said.

Saccomano says police called him at around 3 a.m.

Police say the group was coming from Club Safari where an altercation occurred, however police say they cannot link the altercation with the shooting.

Authorities say they believe the shooting was a drive-by, and that the shooter or shooters did not know who was in the vehicle. Police say the shots were fired with a semi-automatic weapon.

Police say they are still searching for suspects and interviewing witnesses.

"We have no motive yet," Jackson said. "We're hoping to talk with witnesses to find out where they were coming from, and that might give us some clues."

Hours before the shooting, the Broncos lost to San Francisco 26-23 in overtime, eliminating them from the playoff race.

Williams played in the first half of the game but sat out the second half with a shoulder injury.

However, during the game he had a sack, a forced fumble, and led the team with seven sacks. He also returned two punts for 50 yards.

Williams, a second-round pick in the 2005 draft out of Oklahoma State, started nine games as a rookie due to injuries. This season, he took over as the starter for Lenny Walls alongside Champ Bailey, and had 88 tackles, 78 of them solo, and four interceptions.

This isn't South America, Americans are sports nuts but typically not murderous football hooligans.
