I think you read way to much into that, no one was attacking Canadian nationalism. I equated Quebec's less than stellar reputation with the fans of a pair of unfavorable team fanbases.

Not really that Williams was involved in anything shady, but the players obviously ran afoul of some very dangerous people.

It is purely speculative at this point but often this kind of violence is either wrong place/ wrong time or drug related.

I find this believable, because it's exactly the sort of petty nonsense that can set some people off.
