Broncos Unhappy with Cowboys' Roy Williams --
Sun Feb 19, 2006 --from FFMastermind.com

The Denver Post reports some people inside the Broncos organization and close to WR Rod Smith aren't thrilled with Cowboys SS Roy Williams. In the final seconds of the Pro Bowl last Sunday, Williams came in late after a play and hammered Smith, who was on the turf after failing to catch a pass. The ball was out of the play and Smith was not in a position to protect himself. Yet, Williams slammed into Smith's back. Smith's helmet was twisted and he received a nasty welt under his eye that required stitches. After the game, Smith didn't even know who hit him. Still, many couldn't understand why Williams would make such a play, especially in the Pro Bowl. He has a reputation as an overly aggressive player; this won't help it. The NFL outlawed his "horse collar" tackles last spring. After a Broncos victory in Dallas on Thanksgiving, many Denver players complained about a horse-collar style tackle Williams made on TE Jeb Putzier that he wasn't penalized for.

All I can say is somebody call the Waaaabulance :D

I find it funny that a team known for dirty line blocking schemes has the nerve to call out another team's player.

Roy wasn't looking at the ball and didn't know that it fell out. This is football, let the players play.

Rod Smith is fine, what is their problem? They should be happy it was not a real game. Roy may have really drilled him! :clubbed:

If they weren't such a pack of crybabies and pansies they wouldn't have let Pittsburgh come in their house and @#$@ in their bed.

I am a huge Roy fan, but I can understand their point. The final seconds of an exhibition game? When the guy is already down on the turf and the pass incomplete?

Probably uncalled for. If it were reversed and Witten took this shot from Lynch, I'd feel the same way.

But I doubt many of you would be making the same responses. Roy was wrong in this case.

Roy had already left his feet to hit him....what was he supposed to do? A matrix slow day twist in mid air to avoid hitting him?

It's the final seconds of an exhibition game.

Why is he hitting him at all?

Roy hit Smith while Smith was still in the air --

This was no different that his hit on the Commanders punter a few years ago.

The damage was caused by the helmet hitting his face.

If Smith had a broken shoulder blade or injured his back, there might be a reason to be upset.

The hit was legal and the type of hit that happens all the time. Had Smith had his helmet on tighter, it wouldn't be an issue.
