I thought about this last night and I think I can except Myers if that were to happen but the first room is so important to us I wonder if we could take Sam Laporta in the second and almost get the same thing. The first rap is an opportunity in another position that would make the team stronger.
Mayer blocks well. LaPorta is absolutely trash blocking.

Mayer is an elite prospect. LaPorta adds more depth but doesn’t stand out in anyway.

I like Washington more. Personally. Yeah the has the lower floor but he has the higher ceiling. IMO
I totally agree. Washington comes with more risk, but far more upside as well.

Mayer is a safe, solid choice, but he’s essentially maxed out and his ceiling is low.

We need to come out of this draft with a RB.
Bijan in the 1st,Charbonnet in the 2nd or the PITT RB in the 3rd.
I'm pretty sure Bijan will be an Eagle, which sucks because we refuse to properly address the DT position.

I disagree that Laporte is trash at blocking.

The drop off from Mayer to Laporta is very minimal and Laporta may end up better.

Mayer is just a big slow lumbering TE that’s not dynamic and is going to do next to nothing for our offense.

He’s probably the safest player in the draft but if we draft Mayer it doesn’t move the needle.

He may turn out to be the next Jason Witten but when all was said and done Witten wasn’t a game breaker and Mayer won’t be either.

If we’re going to draft a TE I’m round 1 I want a dynamic player. Not some TE that we see in every draft class that’s a classic 1990s TE.

Yep..

Just a boring pick. He’ll be a nice player but he physically looks like a 2nd or 3rd rounder but he’s going in round 1 because of his production.

Just watching him play though is lackluster. Especially considering that the TE position is evolving and he’s such a throwback.

Give me Laporte in the 2nd all day over Mayer in round 1. Way better value and minimal drop off if any.

today seems to day of awful mocks.I am shocked even Brugler succumbed to the awful strategy of drafting for need.
I mean just because he's a need doesn't mean he's not also BPA? Mayer would almost certainly be the highest rated player on the board if he falls to Dallas—unless Bijan is still hanging around which appears more and more unlikely by the day.

You're basically suggesting that even if Jason Witten himself was available, he wouldn't be worth a 1st round pick? That's moronic. You're literally obsessed with a vertical threat at TE—there's other ways to win a football game than deep shots man...

I think Mayer would be a slight improvement over what we had in Schultz. One thing I will say is that I think Mayer would contribute earlier than the late bloomer Schultz did.

I agree that Mayer is ready to go now.

I like Darnell Washington better though.

I get a way better blocker that can seal the edges which helps Pollard and Washington has actual beast upside unlike Mayer who is stuck at good / solid.

I want something more then just a solid player with my first round pick.

We see this type of TE in every draft.

I want a game breaker.

Ferguson will likely be as good if not better than Schultz and he’s already on the roster.

If I’m picking a guy in round 1 he better be special and to me Mayer is just good at everything but not special at anything.

We are taking a TE most likely b/c we lost Schultz and thats where the value is going to be. There are 3 TEs who could start for us tomorrow.
no way I'd take any of those TE's over a starting caliber OL, DE, CB, WR and even RB if it's Robinson.

A 4th WR with the 26th pick seems crazy given the Cowboys largely espouse they use the draft for immediate impact guys. Even in Moore's pass happy offense, the 4th WR played around 15-20% of the offensive snaps, I believe. Then throw in the fact McCarthy wants to run more 12 and 13 personnel and that means likely even less snaps for a 4th WR. This team is married to Lamb, Gallup and Cooks for the next two seasons. If we are using more TEs under McCarthy, TE seems like a bigger need than a 4th WR at this point.

That being said, OL (or DL) is where I'd really want to go in the first.
I thought I was clear about what I want to happen. I apologize for not being so.

I want Torrence in the first.

I want a receiver with skills for the fourth option and not the spares they have been running out on the field.

Just because McCarthy wants to run more does not mean he will toss out plays with four receivers.

Again, I have been assured by the masses that Hendershot and Ferguson is the future. I am not opposed to a TE, but not at 26.

this TE at 26 mantra just needs to end.
Why?
It’s a position that’s gotten major target numbers here and can effectively move the chains. He’s a solid blocker and really good TE prospect
To me it’s hard to judge a mock without knowing who else was there but as a position TE can be very important to an offense

To me it’s all about who is there. Torrence obviously fills a huge need and is worthy of a 26 pick. I’d take him in a heartbeat, if he’s there

Exactly my thoughts too.
