When I began work with the Cowboys, 23 years ago, my only instruction was 'You're in charge of the brand, and whatever you do,just don't tarnish the star.'" - Charlotte Jones-Anderson

Don't think jerry got the " don't tarnish the star " memo

Amen.

if only the motto was win first, or football first.

And last week a member was riding me because I said I wasn't purchasing cowboys stuff or going to the stadium until current conditions change. This says it all right here. The only thing that will make jerry change his mind is money.

so true. Jerry doing more than enough from a football operations standpoint to "tarnish the star." I'm glad I have my memories from the 70's and the 90's of this once great franchise.

I didn't read the whole article but what I got out of the first few lines is, "we know were screwing up the future, so we are going to sell you the past."

and that's really what they are doing. I wonder how big jersey sales and other memorabilia are for the Triplets...

Not that I'm going to change your mind but...

If owners made winning a priority, they would be fine with operating at a loss as long as they won games. I don't see that ever happening.

Isn't it easier to have one that follows the other, than the other way around? If I were running the business of an NFL team, I would make winning priority number 1. America hates losers (except for Cowboys fans for the last 20 years) and typically won't buy an inferior product.

Charlotte Jones-Anderson has spent the entire tenure of her career with the Cowboys as the person in charge of growing the brand, in fact her official title is Chief Brand Officer. According to Mrs. Jones-Anderson, her father realized the significance of the Dallas Cowboys brand, and the importance of the blue star logo, from the very start of the Jones family involvement in the team.

"When I began work with the Cowboys, 23 years ago, my only instruction was 'You're in charge of the brand, and whatever you do, just don't tarnish the star.'" - Charlotte Jones-Anderson

What the entire Jones family totally fails to understand is that the star is tarished by the poor play on the field. All the marketing schemes and the art and the Victoria Secret crap is meaningless without a quality product on the field.

On the ESPN website, there is a lengthy article on Robert Kraft by Jackie McMullan called "Robert Kraft steady at the helm".

One of the first things quoted was "After the love of my family, there's nothing more important to me than winning football games. And I will do whatever I have to do to put this team in position to do that."

Winning football games isn't even second for Jerry. Branding, marketing, selling, profits, filling AT&T Stadium and controlling everything are all more important than actually winning football games.

That needs to change. But I doubt it ever will as long as Jerry is alive.

Totally disagree, especially when it comes to the NFL. Buffalo always sells a lot of tickets, Cleveland has a national following, KC is always a tough place to play...etc. NFL is a superior product, regardless of the specific team you follow.

Plus, The fact that more people are watching the NFL now, when the product is worse than it has been in a long time, makes that point pretty clear to me.

i don't think a current cowboy has been in the top 10 for jersey sales in awhile.

you are right, they are living off the past. personally, my attachment to those past players/teams is why I still remain a fan. nothing the last decade has been endearing and inviting to new fans.

Jerry is no different than any other owner on the competition committee. Only difference is that his entire family is constantly getting interviewed because he was intelligent enough to build the Cowboys as a brand while other owners have failed to do that.
Your right. Jerry builds the team as a brand.

Many others owners build their teams as winners on the field.

Our GM seems to have changed this year. Last year Jerry seemed to be interested in success on the field capped off at the end of the season when things were going to get very uncomfortable when we didn't make the playoffs. This year he seems to be openly talking about the stadium he built, the Cowboys brand. and not very vocal after humiliating losses that we should have won.

Anyone know if this very depressing article was picked up on by any of the local radio shows? (I guess I just mean the Ticket because the Fan isn't going to.) I want Jerry to get the maximum heat possible.

Not building a team as a brand, from a business perspective, is ********. Every historically great team is a brand. Pitt, GB, SF, NE are all brands. Heck, even the NY teams are, and the Bucs became one when they changed their unis back in the Allstott days.

I'm hanging by a thread here, .. the Jones' have ruined the Franchise that I grew up loving.

I loved the Cowboys, .. I was proud to be a Cowboys fan, even while living in steelers country.

Now all I hear is, it is about "the brand", .. putting on a "good show", .. and the whole "entertainment experience."

Marketing, .. profit.

All stuff I couldn't care less about. It is only about "winning" for me, ... and absolutely nothing else.

The person driving this ship is not even a good sailor, .. let alone a 'Captain'.

It's like I'm hanging on to the rope with all of my being as the ship goes down, .. and the Jones' are stepping on my head and stomping on my hands.
