BTB: Prediction: It won’t take long for Randy Gregory to win Cowboys starting right DE spot

I will say this. I have fairly high expectations for Taco and Ealy. If Gregory beats them both out to be the starting RDE on this team that will be a good thing. We have 3 average to good RDEs, which is a luxury we haven't had in quite some time.

we didn't waste two years. he did. we wasted a 2nd round pick and since then we have kind of moved on by investing a 1st round pick, a 4th round pick and signed a free agent.

in the past two years he cost us nothing.
Yes we did. We invested in those other guys because we wanted depth. Make no mistake this team expects Gregory to fulfill his potential and start.

I say it's the opposite. They expect to get something out of Taco their first round pick and Ealy, the guy they had rated ahead of Tank on their draft board. Anything they get out of Gregory will be gravy.

I disagree. It wouldn't shock me if Ealy gets cut or plays inside....and Taco is raw. It depends on the jump he makes from year one to two.

Ok I haven't heard about him doing coke....let me shut up lol.

Broaddus alluded to it at the time of his last suspension. Who knows how accurate it was, but that goes beyond self-medicating for bipolar problems for me.

Gregory seems to allude to some of the same issues in his reinstatement packet when he talks about changing his lifestyle.

That said, his teammates do seem to genuinely like him, so he’s probably not a bad dude overall.

Taco made some progress even in his first year, imo if he continues to improve he'll be pretty good...

Ealy wasn't rated ahead of Lawrence. He was well thought of, but not rated higher.

And if Gregory does only so-so, will the team say "well, he's been out a year and a half, he needs time to develop" and keep him? Or will they say "we've had enough, bye Randy?

I think Gregory needs to at least do as well as Taco did last year to have a realistic roster shot in 2019. If he sucks, I could see us taking another DE high to squeeze him out. Especially since this might be Tank's last season in Dallas.

Garrett's already saying just that.

Gregory is getting this year on the roster, barring injury.

This article still won't stop the naysayers and the usual suspects though. I am sure they will be coming out of the woodwork soon.
Instead of accepting the possibility Gregory can compete at a high level by the end of TC, and stay clean, they will give the usual stuff.

Gregory can get in the mythical football shape over an off season, just as well as any other player can.
That football shape may only apply if a player returns mid season.
Naysayers? The kid has done absolutely nothing in the NFL to earn any respect. At this point he is camp body. Hope he stays out of trouble and makes the field this year.

no, we invested a 1st round pick in Charlton because we wanted a reliable starter. you don't invest a first round pick on depth. that would be stupid.

we invested in Armstrong with a 4th round pick because we wanted depth behind Charlton and for now RDE Crawford.

we brought Ealy on a low cost contract to provide depth behind Charlton and Crawford.

does the team want Gregory to fulfill his potential? heck yes. they would be stupid not to. but they also managed the risk and hedged their bets by investing in the position in case it doesn't work out.

expects is a strong word. hopes he does, is probably more realistic. expectations comes from fans like this forum who play fantasy football or madden football

Yeah I never heard that and that's far more extreme than smoking weed so yeah I can't get with coke as a self medicating drug.

What are "all of my lofty declarations"?

What's being "written in stone"? Is hyperbole your deal?

What exactly are the "actual football people" saying?

Not nearly as "weak" as the bull**** you're making up here.

You're the one making proclamations that Gregory will be a starter and your whole argument so far has been based on what a player who hasn't played a single snap in over 18 months who had ONE good game his last time out and oh BTW was his only sack of his NFL career. Ya that one game over 18 months ago is such a HUGE sampling to make such a proclamation on. ANYBODY that makes such idiotic moronic judgement based on a player that has 10 NFL games under his belt with one good game and exactly ONE sack in his NFL career, all of which was more than 18 months since he last stepped foot on an NFL field, and now is certain that this player will be a starter should watch out for anyone selling swamp land because that kind of person will buy up all the swamp land that is offered.

Actually, I'm not. I shared this article genius, I didn't write it. But I guess in your rush to attack me personally, you missed that.

Figures.

Do better.

Well being he hasn't played much NFL....what else could you use to look at what type of player he is?

The point of the repeating did you say college is just that, college ball ISN'T the NFL and to even suggest or imply college play as justification for what or how someone did or will do in the NFL is laughable. Most college players who end up in the NFL play their entire college careers mostly against players that never make it to the NFL so to compare what a player did against guys that weren't good enough to make it to the NFL is laughable.

Just where did I say you wrote the article? You were the one that agreed with that article and then based your agreement on a single game over 18 months ago of a total of a 10 game NFL career. Now if you didn't you would have just said in your 1st reply to me that you only posted that article but you didn't you went on trying to justify it with that one single game and blah blah blah.
