Unbelievable DC!!! Those Bears and Eagles defenses were intimidating and dominant groups.

Condolences to Coach Ryan's family first and foremost. Great defensive coordinator and competitor. Gave his life to football and made our rivalry something to watch when he was at the Eagles. RIP Coach Ryan!

Yikes lol......the guy just died goodness......

and? I'm not a hypocrite. I said it when he was alive why would that view now change? Buddy was a great coach, I have always said that. In my view best Defensive coach of all time. As a person he was a jerk and did not seem to mind being one.

As he just passed "one hell of a DC" would have sufficed

again I'm not going to claim a different view now that he died. I'm sorry he passed away but I hate hypocrites who act as if a person was so great when they die yet talked different about them when they were alive. Buddy made no bones about it with Ditka, his punching Gilbride, calling out bounties on players. What kind of man does that? As for his ability as a DC he was great but please I'm not going to act as if he was a saint of a man, he wasn't

Oh please, he was respectful and complementary enough. Just because someone passed doesnt change who they were or how you felt about them.

But there is also no reason to trample a mans grave. Everybody knows Buddy Ryan. He is gone and what's said and written now are for the ones left behind.

Just because somebody died doesn't mean you have to say kind words about that person...I don't have anything negative about buddy to say...I just think it's a stupid unwritten rule to only say good things about people because they passed...if the person doesn't deserve to have good things said about them...so be it..

Again, none of this pertains to buddy...he was before my time

You reap what you sow, Buddy was who he was he never apologized for it. His skills as a DC were great but he was what he was. A jerk to a lot of people. His players loved him no doubt but his actions at many times were just wrong.

No link as it just popped up on SportsCenter. I know it isn't truly Cowboys related but he was one of the biggest rivalries in Cowboys history. I hated the guy as a coach but RIP to him and condolences to his family.

Edited to add link: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/16579465/former-nfl-coach-defensive-guru-buddy-ryan-dies-age-82

Hear me out before you stone me but Buddy helped in a crazy way buil our 90s dynasty once we learned how to beat Buddy and the Eagles we had enough confidence in ourselves to beat anyone

RIP Buddy Ryan.

Those that played for him on defense loved him. Opposing offensive coordinators feared him.

Cowboy fans hated him and I can think of no higher form of respect.

I have no comments.

I never liked the guy in fact pretty much despised his existence. That said, I wish his family comfort and hope pray he makes it through those gates (for his own sake).

Its fine to feel how you feel I guess but I don't see you being a hypocrite if you decided to just say he was a great coach and end it there. Not criticizing just trying to get a understanding of calling the guy a jerk on the day of his death.

How is it hypocritical to tell someone they are a great coach and end it there? Bounties or whatever he did on that field he did ON THAT field. If Ditka or whoever wanted to hold a grudge fair enough. But as fans......we aren't on the field and we weren't directly effected by Buddy Ryan. I guess this is the part of sports where things may go a bit far.

Because he was, Buddy was a loud mouth jerk who insulted many of people, You earn your reputation in life and it carries over into death. I did not wish him dead but Buddy was and knew he was a jerk. He has no issues slamming others, most coaches are professional enough not to, but Buddy never cared about being professional

Buddy was a feisty one. I remember the time he punched Houston Oiler offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride on the sideline during a Sunday night game. RIP
