Burger King- Thinks Cowboys will cut TO

I don't have any particular insight. But here are three things that have swayed my thinking: Jerry Jones has been more silent than I would have expected. Peter King seems to have a clear pipeline to Jones. Stephen Jones hasn't made an effort to correct the assumption that he wants Owens gone.

What would you expect Jerry to be saying? Just because WE beat this dead horse, doesn't mean it is on his radar.

Peter King has been wrong more times than I can count. He has no special insight.

I wouldn't expect a peep out of SJ. If he says he didn't say it, people will just accuse him of backing down. Often it's just better to let the story drift away, as it has done everywhere but places like this.

Dude, what is up with the Brady Quinn pics???

Trying to change the Tempo for the TO-haters...

Still in denial about Jerry not drafting Brady. Brady would get TO the ball. If he the 'Great White Hype' the ball, he would get TO the rock.

I like Romo and his playmaking but Brady is the total package. Brady will unfortuntely win a playoff game before Tony.

Well here is my reasoning, what is yours? I would like to better understand your viewpoint....

On TO:

TO is a great athlete who draws double coverage from opposing defenses

TO can cause problems in a locker room

TO has been with two other franchises and had major issues with both

TO is 35 years old and not getting younger, he does what he does and won't get better at it.

TO drops a lot of passes, mostly ones we really need him to catch

TO makes some great catches also

TO pouts

TO stops running routes sometimes and often does not fight for passes not throw perfectly

TO went on Primetime TV wearing an EAGLES colored shirt to call out our coaching staff.

On Garrett:

Garrett is a 41 year old coach that can still grow in his job.

Garrett is a former Cowboys QB so I believe in his loyalty.

Garrett as OC has ranked our offenses 3rd and 13th in his first two seasons, not amazing but still not worthy of saying he sucks yet.

Garrett did not do well with offensive adjustments this year

Garrett had to deal with key injuries this year and made a poor decision regarding his back up QB.

Garrett has never gone on public TV to call out any of his players for their lazyness or poor play which is totally obvious to any objective fan.

Garrett is well respected by other organizations and coaches
Good list. TO is a great blocker, especially downfield.

I thought he and Sparano did a great job together.

And then I thought Sparano did a great job in Miami while Garrett underachieved in Dallas.

The only key injury I see on that list is Romo and I'll write off every game he missed with injury. But I won't give a free pass on games where Romo did play and the offense still struggled.

How many years do first-time offensive coordinators not named Jason Garrett get to prove themselves?

More than one down one especially after a pretty damn phenominal 1st one.... he should get at least one more season which I think he will do much better then he will either be head coach or someone elses...

You could be correct. I'm merely offering my interpretation. But Peter King is definitely a FOJ... I'm amending the Old Friend of Bill acronym. Peter King is a Friend of Jerry. If you don't believe that, it's your right. But maybe check the SI archives before making a definitive statement. And I'm not sure why Stephen wouldn't simply say, "The reports that I want Owens gobe are incorrect." Why not?

I did not read all 22 pages, but I will say that Jerry was very serious when he said that cutting TO would prevent them from signing Ware.

So unless Jerry has discovered an accounting error or something, I seriously doubt is going to cut TO.
You know he was serious? How? It cost $600K in additional cap space to cut him. In real $, it cost $6M to actually keep him another year.

I believe I might take a sporting wager on that one.

That's debatable overall but he does great WHEN HE TRIES.

I disagree. At some point soon either TO will be cut or all this supposedly baseless reporting will be denied.

I don't think it proves anything, of course, but I do think it shouldn't be dismissed out of hand that no one in the front office is knocking this stuff down.

With his size and strength, TO has (had) the ability to be one of the best WR blockers ever.

That's not what Dallas gets out of him. Much of the time he does it half-heartedly.

Yep. That's my feeling. The front office has been oddly silent. Jones is no shrinking violet when it comes to the media.

I don't remember seeing him give up on plays like that; I'm sure it's happened somewhere but I do remember several plays where he was instrumental in extending a long run.

Anyway, I agree with the list. It's evenhanded, complete, well done, all that.

I'm sure he does tell him. I'm sure the players tell him, and then its readily obvious when they watch the game films during the week.

The reason he doesnt is the reason we are arguing that dumping TO now would improve the team, because he's here and because he complains/demands the ball so much, Romo still forces him the ball. If he isnt here, he'll go to spreading it around more, which will make the offense harder to defense.

Thank you. I don't why it is so hard for folks to grasp this.

I do think Owens is a decent blocker, as wide receivers go. He's no Hines Ward, but he usually makes an effort to create a screen.

Maybe we need Tony to step up and make the best plays. If Toy is such a lightweight, what's to stop the Roy or Crayton from getting all in Romo's head?

End sarcasm

Cowboys want Roy Williams to work

Dallas owner Jerry Jones doesn’t seem to regret sending first- and third-round picks to the Lions as part of a package for wide receiver Roy Williams — and signing Williams to a big contract extension — even though Williams caught only 19 passes in 10 games for him.

“We are very pleased to have Roy Williams,” Jones said. “We saw an opportunity to get a player that can be our No. 1 receiver. … We gave up the one and the three, which I thought was good for Detroit. …

“We weren’t able to really utilize Roy with the success that we hoped to as the season went along, but that’s coming. As I look to the future, Roy will be our X receiver as I look down the road. He’s at that stage in his career.”

Sounds like Jones wants Williams to earn it, though.

“He’s got a lot of work to do this off-season — and he's going to do it, and will do it — but a lot of work regarding strength and conditioning,” Jones said. “That’ll help him stay on the field.”

Nope, no way do you give this crap credibility. That's what a denial does. Then you have another round of denials, then another round of "source" propping-up by the media. Do you think the people who desperately want to believe this would believe SJs denial? Or would they just say he was backing up?

Best to just let it go away.

But Jones has given plenty of denials about other players and coaches at other times, even about Owens himself.
