At least Carolina had the cajones to suspend Smith for 2 games.

There are no bye weeks in the first two weeks of the season. You can't suspend someone for the first and ninth week. They have to be consecutive.

I understand that. My point was that they were willing to "hurt the team" as you said above. It wasn't just to penalize him two game checks.

But my comment was unwarranted anyway. Who's to say the Giants wouldn't have taken the same action even if they didn't have a bye.

Its funny cuz if felix were putting these numbers up against these teams you guys would put him in the Ring of Honor Hall of Fame consider him All-Pro put him in the Pro-bowl and consider him ROY and MVP

We will see Felix thus far hasn't shown us anything JJ has done for us or could do even the 61 yard run JJ had a 70 yard run against the saints. He was given the chance to start and produce he did rush for 1,000 yards for us and then following that we decided to cut his carries in half in for MB3.

Is Plax expected to come in and "not practice" while serving his suspension?

that's gonna be a tough game for the Giants now. who does Eli throw to now? he doesn't have a TE to bail him out on 3rd down anymore.

Like I said above-the Hawks don't even have any receivers of their own. The game plan is simple-play conservative on O and don't make mistakes, and on D, just stack 8-9 men in the box and blitz like mad.

Now if they were playing us...well...that's a different story.

Plax fights back
Plaxico Burress is attempting to get the NFL Players’ Association to overturn the Giants’ decision to suspend him for two weeks.

That was the word a few moments ago from Drew Rosenhaus, Burress’ agent, who said Burress’ absence on Monday was related to a “family matter.” Rosenhaus acknowledged that there was a “miscommunication” between Burress and the Giants, but said the matter was not severe enough to warrant a suspension and a nearly $250,000 loss in pay.

“We have to respect their decision, but we don’t agree with it,” Rosenhaus said. “As a result, we’ve contacted the PA and requested a hearing to see if we could get Plaxico reinstated. It’s not something we think is tantamount to Plaxico being suspended for two weeks.

“This is obviously something that just doesn’t sit with us. We’re therefore going to do what we can to get this thing settled.”

Rosenhaus declined to get into details about what the “family matter” was that precluded Burress from showing up at work, or from calling anyone in the organization. “There are things that take place in the NFL that are worse and don’t result in a suspension,” Rosenhaus said.

In fact, Rosenhaus said the Giants were made aware of the situation on Monday night when Burress spoke with Charles Way, the Giants’ director of player development. And Rosenhaus said he was in contact with Giants officials on Monday and most of the day Tuesday as well.

He added that Burress was “very surprised and very, very disappointed” when he got the news of the suspension this morning.

There is no timetable for a decision by the NFLPA on whether or not to seek a hearing with an arbitrator, and it’s not clear whether Burress even has a case for the decision to be overturned.

“He’s apologetic for this,” Rosenhaus said. “He’s remorseful about it. He’s certainly contrite. And he certainly does have a good case here.”

It's the 21st century. Cellphones, GPS, etc.

You would think it's still the early 20th century going by the explanations of players and agents for why someone can't be reached.

Yep.

Nice how suddenly when you get hit in the pocketbook you suddenly 'come around'...Pathetic

A big reason why these prima donna millionaire babies are tough to really be supportive of, they show responsibility for little and expect to be 'handled' like royalty

Burress will appeal suspension from Giants for breaking team rule

Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress was suspended for one game by the New York Giants on Wednesday for missing a workout earlier in the week. His agent insisted the receiver had an undisclosed family emergency and will appeal the ban to the NFL Players Association.

Because the unbeaten Giants have a bye this weekend, Burress will miss the Oct. 5 game against Seattle if the suspension is upheld.
Fantasy focus
With Plaxico Burress out of action for two weeks, what should fantasy football owners do to fill that void on their teams? Michael Fabiano has some valuable advice. More ...

The Giants refused to say why Burress was suspended, but agent Drew Rosenhaus claimed the nine-year veteran did not attend Monday's workout because of a family emergency that has now been resolved.

The suspension took effect immediately, meaning Burress will not be allowed to return to team activities until the day after the Seahawks game. He will miss two paychecks, totaling $235,294.12 of his $2 million annual base salary.

Rosenhaus said that Burress spoke with Giants special assistant Charles Way on Monday evening, but he added there was "miscommunication" between the player and the team.

When asked specifically why Burress did not telephone the team Monday to discuss the absence, Rosenhaus avoided answering the question.

"Again we're acknowledging that there should be some repercussion, but not to the extent where he is denied his right to perform his livelihood to play," Rosenhaus said in a conference call. "We think it is very serious and not very common, but there are things that do take place in the NFL that you could say are worse and have not led to suspension."

Rosenhaus said the NFLPA has not advised him when an arbitrator would hear the appeal, but he hopes Burress is back in the lineup for the Seattle game.

"I hope we can get this worked out and get back out on the practice field and back to playing football for the Giants. That's where he belongs," Rosenhaus said.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said the Super Bowl champions were making a loud and clear statement about being responsible.

"We have had success here because of the team concept," Coughlin said after practice Wednesday. "And the team concept means basically that everyone is accountable and responsible and that we don't let the other guys down. And that is what we are trying to do."

Coughlin insisted that the suspension will not be a distraction.

"This is a team that is focused and displayed mental toughness and they will do the same thing with regard to this."

Coughlin and general manager Jerry Reese informed Burress of the suspension Wednesday morning before the team held practice.

"I think he was very surprised and very, very disappointed," Rosenhaus said of Burress' reaction to the suspension. "I spoke with him immediately after his meeting. ... He certainly did not anticipate his conduct would lead to him being suspended."

Burress was not immediately available for comment. He was off to a great start this season with a team-high 18 catches for 259 yards and a touchdown.

"It is something we just have to deal with and move on," quarterback Eli Manning said. "That is what our focus is, get ready for Seattle and try to get a win there."

Burress has had other problems with the Giants since signing as a free agent in 2005. He was benched for the opening quarter against San Diego early in 2005 for being late for a meeting. He said his wife was pregnant and he went with her for a test.

Burress was upset this summer after the Giants refused to negotiate his contract after the Super Bowl. He refused to practice during a mandatory minicamp in June and was fined $42,000. The Giants signed Burress to a two-year contract extension just before the opener that will bump his salary into the $7 million range over the next five years. The deal included $11 million in guaranteed money that will be paid this season.

Burress then caught 10 catches for 133 yards in a 16-7 win over Washington.

Burress caught the winning 13-yard touchdown pass in the final minute of the Giants' 17-14 win over the Patriots in the Super Bowl. And despite playing on a sprained right ankle all last season, Burress had a team-high 70 receptions for 1,025 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns. He added 18 catches for 221 yards during the postseason.

Burress caught 209 passes for 3,227 yards and 29 touchdowns in his first three seasons with the Giants, with all the touchdowns being thrown by Manning.

Wide receiver is one of the Giants' deepest positions. In addition to Burress, there's Amani Toomer, Steve Smith, Sinorice Moss, Domenik Hixon and rookie Mario Manningham.

No. Just the opposite. Some guy named Bob Lauber was just on talking about how this will be a positive for the giants. Even though Plaxico has been known to be a disruptive force in the past they love him in the locker room and they know Plaxico 'walks to the beat of a different drummer' and love him even more for it. :lmao:

Yes, his attitude was well documented before he was drafted. Someone stated that he was a total nutcase back then. I guess people never change.

Reminds me of some excerpts with interviews regarding Vince Young PRIOR to the draft...I think the term mental baby was used to describe him...Amazing

REPORT: BURRESS HAD PAST DOMESTIC DISPUTES
UNKNOWN IF SUMMER INCIDENTS RELATED TO SUSPENSION

Post Staff Report

September 24, 2008

Northjersey.com reports tonight that "Totowa (N.J.) police responded to two domestic disturbance calls at Giants receiver Plaxico Burress's home the past few months," borough police confirmed.

The Web site for The Record of Hackensack says, "It could not be determined whether the incidents had anything to do with Burress' suspension by the Giants today ..."

The Web site reports that the incidents occured on June 2 and Aug. 19. It says restraining orders were issued but then overturned in state court.

Pat Hanlon, a spokesman for the Giants, told reporter Ed Beeson the team will "not comment on a player's personal life."

Burress was suspended today for two weeks after missing a film session Monday and failing to contact the team. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said the absence was caused by a family emergency and that Burress would appeal the suspension, which would cost him almost $235,000 in salary and cause him to miss a game Oct. 5.
