before Sparano gets hired. Everybody down here is expecting that to happen.

I hope Hudson Houck becomes available soon so the Cowboys can get him.

Cam was the OC in San Diego when Wade was DC. This could possibly be a replacement candidate if we lose Garrett.

Parcells really needs to cut this crap out. We have our first really good season in years, without him, and he congratulates us by stealing our staff? What a weasle.

Dolphins fire Cameron and all but two of his assistants
By Harvey Fialkov | Sun-Sentinel.com
9:09 AM EST, January 3, 2008

Evidently, Cameron and new vice president of football operations Bill Parcells' mutual friendship with iconic college basketball coach Bobby Knight wasn't enough to save Cameron from becoming the first Dolphins coach to be fired in 37 years or since George Wilson was replaced by Don Shula after the 1969 season. Jim Bates wasn't retained after serving as interim coach for the final seven games of the 2004 season.

Under Cameron, the Dolphins became the eighth team in NFL history to finish 1-15, by far the worst season in franchise history. They lost their first 13 games before edging the Ravens 22-16 in overtime.

The two coaches who have been retained are assistant special teams coach Steve Hoffman and linebackers coach George Edwards.

All of the remaining coaches are free to seek other employment. However, when a new coach is in place, there is a possibility he will talk to some of those assistants.

Cameron is the 19th first-year coach to not return for a second season, with the last being Bobby Petrino, who resigned from the Falcons after 13 games this season.

A frontrunner for the coaching vacancy is Cowboys assistant head coach Tony Sparano, who will interview for the Falcons' job on Friday.

"This is a difficult decision and I want to thank Cam and the rest of his staff for their work this past season,'' Ireland said in a team-released statement. "By making this decision now, it gives all the coaches the greatest chance to pursue other opportunities.''

I think Sparano goes to Miami, but I think Garrett remains with us.

Hopefully we look at Houck as the OL coach.

If this is what transpires, it's not too bad at all.

Only Hoffman and Edwards were retained.

Jerrah needs to get on the horn a.s.a.p. and start the process of bringing Hudson Houck back. The 49ers ( if Cameron ends up there ) and the Chargers are probably calling him as I type this, but it's imperative that we get him first in the likelyhood that Sparano ends up as a HC somewhere.

Let the further raiding begin.
Just to show that Ireland won't have too much say so over his staff.

Ireland, you will take what Parcells gives you and you will like it.

I have to wonder who is going to take Cam's place.

If Parcells has his way, and I think he will, then he is going to find someone who mimics his approach to rebuilding. That being said, he will want a Boot Camp personality whipping into shape the youngsters they will be bringing in.

Some one with a conservative approach to the game plan so they can minimize loses when they are so short on talent.

In short, "Old School".

Any Idea who is out there right now that fits that description?

Odd, since he let him go from Dallas.

Exactly, I thought Parcells hated him.

But I guess if only he and Edwards were retained, that means Houck was fired, too. I'd take him or Solari as a replacement O-line coach in a heartbeat. It might even be an upgrade.

Maybe a certain retired OC to be lured out of retirement to pair with Sparano?

Did we ever replace Hoffman? I thought we didn't and that's why we struggled with kicker for awhile.

We need Houck for sure. We have the size on the line that he loves.

REX RYAN INTERVIEWING WITH FINS

A league source tells us that former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan will be interviewing for the head-coaching job with the Dolphins.

Ryan is expected to be a candidate for the same job in Baltimore, even though Ryan was fired with the rest of Brian Billick's staff.

Some league insiders believe that there's a glass ceiling hovering over the heads of Rex Ryan and his brother Rob, the soon-to-be-former defensive coordinator of the Raiders. Given that their father is Buddy Ryan, the concern is that one or both of them might be as erratic and unpredictable and brash as Buddy was during his coaching career.

Still, we think the Ryan brothers should be judged on their own merit. But in an industry with way too many candidates for way too few jobs, it's a factor that definitely could be holding them back.

I think part of letting Ireland loose is an unspoken agreement that the Dolphins wouldn't raid our coaching staff. If not, I would consider both Sporano and Todd Bowles goners. Also, if Wade really has authority to bring in his own defensive AND offensive staff then Cam might very well be our next OC if Garrett and Sporano leave.

Hudson Houck has to be getting close to 80 years old. He was older than dirt the first time he coached in Dallas. I wouldn't be surprised if he just calls it a career.

San Fran is supposedly gonna hire Martz to run their offense unless they change their mind.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but Chan Gailey, not Martz is supposedly the front runner for their coordinator job.

Their owners and GM shot down the idea of hiring Martz, Cameron would be a good fit out there...
