Byron Jones was gifted with speed and athleticism that allowed him to play tight coverage against just about any receiver. But he was mediocre in his ability to track the ball in the air and secure the pick. And that is probably why the Cowboys moved on from him.

Best of luck in retirement.

Thats what people should be taking away from this. This combined with Michael Thomas's comments about the NFL's medical practices should get people to ask questions. But its seems most people can't read anything into it other than him being ungrateful

Byron Jones has a great future off the field. He has a degree in economics from Univ of Connecticut and has shown some interest in investment banking and had some other business interests off the field as well.

He has always not only been a great athlete but a man of excellent character. In high school he was captain of the basketball team, ran track, and obviously excelled in football where he played multiple positions.

Then get a job and work 40+ hours per week for 40 years making $25 an hour like millions and millions of Americans. I don’t know what to tell ya Byron. You chose your path.
Callous !! He is not asking for anything. Everyone has a skill that they use to make money. It can be football or any job. You chose your path to sound like an idiot.

Yeah I don’t want anyone hurt but there is something to be said about leaving with a little more grace. It’s football. The risks are obvious. The cynic in me thinks this reeks of a future lawsuit.

I always liked this kid even when his on field production didn't meet expectations. I have no idea the physical challenges he already faces but I applaud his courage to step away. Hopefully he has been smart with his money. As someone said, the rest of us have physical challenges too albeit maybe later in life and we didn't have the luxury of multimillion dollar contracts and the financial security provided. I didn't hear him whining, rather just stating some reasons for retiring. As to the $$$/injury tradeoff, I'd have done the same for the money but also for the ability to say I played in the NFL for X number of years. I bet every one of us on this forum would have made the same trade-off. Go Byron, get your retirement on!

Weird coming from a non-physical corner
With 300 pound offensive lineman pulling AND you cannot take them on low, even less physical CB’s take a pounding.

Weird comment coming from someone who didn’t play CB in the NFL for 8 years.

Yes sir Jones always came across very smart. He is well spoken and has charisma. He is going to be just fine in the next phase.

I’m sure he’s now our main target in free agency ;)

Wah. In my opinion, suffering wear and tear and back injuries at my 40+ hour a week job making $13.50 an hour isn't worth it either, but oh well. And I'm probably more physical at work than Jones ever was.

I think the "No amount of chronic pain" for financial gain part rubs people the wrong way.

Everyone knows the risks of playing football. He made millions for his "sacrifice".

Average Joe gets same chronic injuries from working an assembly line or trade and doesn't have a fraction to show for it.
It doesn’t rub me the wrong! The physical and mental toll on some NFL players is definitely not worth the money they make. He may well be one of those playe.

HELL YES BYRON. Tell it like it is.

So many complete IDIOTS on social media call for NFL players to play through injuries, and it is so wrong.

“What I did for work was physically difficult, therefore anyone else who works hard shouldn’t complain about it”

- a sentiment I see way too much on social media

I’d bet Jones has had more concussions than you on the job.
