You aren't honestly going to suggest Byron Jones was worth his draft pick are you?

Don't even think of putting words in my mouth. I didn't come close to saying that in any form or fashion. I said what I meant and meant what I said. I talked about losing games and fandom. Don't troll me.

He may have to play CB now.

My hope is that the FO at least learns from their mistakes. I'm intrigued by metrics and SPARQ ratings, but they should not be the primary motivation in drafting a player. Take the guy who has proven it on the highest levels like Landon Collins (Alabama) who went 6 picks after Byron.

He was atrocious today. And watching SNF, Im having flashbacks of Aaron Rodgers to Jared Cook... I honestly don't believe he is a S. He takes terrible angles and is a poor tackler. We tried to fit a square peg into a round hole. I think we are misusing him. We ought to use his athleticism as a zone CB, not a S... We need two new S's IMO.

I think he playing wrong sport. Ultra athletic but this is too physical for him. Should be playing hoops.

Perhaps Jones would be best suited for a back up CB role. That said, the Cowboys are in trouble in the secondary right now. Jones, Heath, Carroll, Lewis (granted his 1st game)...were all abused at some point against the Broncos. Trevor Siemian threw 4 TD's. Nuff said. Looks like it's gonna be a long season for the secondary at this point. Only hope is Awuzie & Lewis improving...but both have had trouble remaining healthy so far. Can't get much worse...and injuries may force their hand. Would move Jones to CB for depth...and let Woods start at safety. Heath needs to go back to being a ST's demon & back up as well, but they likely won't even consider making one change, let alone two. They really should have snagged T.J. Ward.

Unfortunately, I bet he will be the next Tyrone Crawford with his next contract. A lot of money for a player that doesn't make much of an impact but looks the part

FWIW, I think Heath is a better safety. And that's not a high bar. At least I've seen Heath either make an interception or at least challenge the receiver for the ball.

Maybe Jones does a good job on stuff we we don't see on TV/coaches want him to be(i dunno), but he isn't a playmaker. Just some athletic guy who has yet to grasp the "speed" of the NFL.

I hate to lose a game on a personal level; it's a punch in the solar plexus. But what I hate worse is some fans reactions as if every game is going to be the same thereafter when history says it most likely won't. But it's the same for fans everywhere. Calling everyone out except the janitor. Doesn't matter what level or sport. Still a PITR.
It's to be expected after a dumpster fire of a game like this. Everyone sucked.

They should have kept him doing what he did as a rookie, what he does best, shutdown the other team's best TE.

It's a niche, but with all the great TE's in the league these days, a bona fide TE stopper is a pretty valuable commodity.

He's a puss

This - and nothing else - should be his scouting report. Sums up his playing style and "personality" (he doesn't really have one).

Why would someone be a freakin' first rounder because of a broad jump? Notable posters here were drooling over his "athleticism". Seriously, that's IQ 70 stuff. Who cares if this Mr. Nice Guy wuss broad jumps to the moon? He can't play football and was a flushed first rounder the moment he was picked. I hated it.

I couldn't disagree more, I emailed Jerry Jones last night to tell him how the janitor was over paid and they should have upgraded from him a long time ago!

Get quality and experienced players around him and it will be a different story. They have him trying to cover up for the short comings of other players.

The CBs either new Carroll, young Brown or both Awuzie, Lewis.

The other Safety is Heath.

Jaylon is young and limited.

Safety Woods played CB for much of the game.

Strong Safety type Frazier is playing deep in the Dime defense.

Well this is year three so he is pretty much what he is going to be. An average NFL DB who doesnt make make plays and got drafted two or three rounds early. Moral to the story: Draft by what is on tape, not a combine workout. Freak athletes dont always turn into great football players.

I think I hear Mike Mamula laughing somewhere...

What does that have to do with a thread about Byron Jones? Who is the one trolling? Why don't you tell us what you think of our vaunted first round pick from mighty UCONN?

I never wanted a Barry Church back more than yesterday. I keep waiting for BJones to make a play....always a moment late and chasing some of the bottom tier TEs. I say Church because he'd at least put wood on you when making a tackle. Wilcox too. Heath relapsed a bit because he had to move his feet more and cover more ground while trying to drape an opponent.

It's got to be Player Development or the lack thereof.
