Byron Jones

A BS call? Or a BS play? For me...it was UNECSSARY. Why. Why. Why. Is all I kept asking.

It was a BS call. The momentum of the ball carrier was bringing him down and Byron was trying to get his legs out of the way so he didn't get rolled up on. He did give a little shove, but it was so small it was ridiculous. The refs didn't throw the flag until the Chiefs complained.

i know a lot of you have been bashing him non-stop, like Aaron Judge hits a baseball but I have resisted getting on board with that because I have seen more good in him than bad.

Granted, as with all players, he has done some good and some bad but overall I was glad to have him on the team.

I don't just jump on the hate band wagon (that's a figure of speech I don't hate any of these guys) very quickly. A player sort of has to earn the bashing from me.

Having said all of that Jones acted like a one man wrecking crew of our attempts to beat the other team today. I'm not on the hate wagon yet but he seems to be trying to earn his way on it.

I think he'd be better as a nickel corner, which he may well be when Scandrick is done. But as a safety he's not physical enough, and he needs to make smarter decisions.

He was a disaster out there. Much like in other big games against formidable opponents - e.g., GB in playoffs. He’s not even excelling at the one thing he was drafted to do: cover receiving TEs. Had high hopes for him after rookie season but half way thru last year he somehow flipped the OFF switch. He’s lost out there and it’s painful to watch. Even last week’s interception against Washington seemed a hollow accomplishment as he really didn’t “make a play” as much as receive a gift. His only hope appears to be a shift back to CB at this point. Not sure he will be any better but certainly can’t be worse.

He'll go down with Taco and Claiborne as one of the worst first round picks in Cowboys history.
I think all are better than Rod Hill, Bobby Carpenter and Shante Carver. Just to name a few worse ones.

All I know is that when we go to Cover 2, with Heath (yes, I know he got a pick) and Jones in deep coverage, we are generally picked apart.

A player that lacks ball skills and doesn’t have a ton of football smarts.

Those 2 penalties at the end of the half were inexcusable.

I’m pulling for him, but it is difficult
You need to go make him sleep with the fishes.

Byron didn't have a great day. But he also did a pretty decent job on one of the best TEs in the NFL. I'd complain a lot more about some RCBs regression.

The fact that Travis Kelce did not destroy us tells me that Jones had a pretty good game, but yes, he had a few bad moments.

That's the problem. His screw ups tend to be pretty big screw ups.

I still think he's a CB that they are trying to shoehorn into the S position

He threw a guy down out of bounds, then took off his helmet after the ridiculous play at the end of the half. I don't consider that evidence that he's a corner being shoehorned into safety. He gave up the TD in man coverage on one of the best tight ends in the game right now. Otherwise, I saw no major holes in his safety play yesterday.

Hes a bust. NO other way to put it. Heath and Jones have to be the worst safety combination in the NFL.

He didn't play the TD to Kelce well at all and obviously the penalties were not good. But he played the deep ball to Hill? nicely when he forced him out of bounds--that could have been a big one.

You know he's played more than just one game, right?

My belief he's not a great FS and likely a better CB is his totality of work. He has poor reaction time back there, he struggles with his reads at times, and he seems to be at his best when he comes down and locks up a slot WR or TE in man coverage.
