callahan named offensive coordinator

I wouldn't under-estimate Bill Callahan being a West Coast guy. Callahan has a very good understanding of zone run blocking, and from what I've gathered, the Cowboys and Jets run similar zone blocking schemes now. Callahan's knowledge and expertise in this area can only be a big plus while he evaluates our players in the running game.

Moreover, Dez Bryant fits the mold of a classic West Coast wide receiver, and Callahan, with his West Coast pedigree, is going to recognize Bryant's YAC ability. Bryant should be among the top YAC receivers in the NFL, but he wasn't even in the top 20 in 2011.

I hope Callahan's fingerprints are all over this offense when it's all said and done.
 
Let's see we wanted an offensive coordinator we got one now everyone wants to question the responsibilities. Got to love this place sometimes
 
so Garrett who screws up calling plays in his own gameplan will be calling plays for someone else's gameplan? Well that sounds like a good idea.

This sucks. Callahan? Of all people.. And he isn't even the playcaller.

As he's giving the list in the video Schottenheimer doesn't seem to be paying much attention as he was marking down Callahans suggestions on his play sheet though, kind of funny.

Anyway i think that's the type of relationship/co-ordination we are likely to see between he and Garrett.

We wanted changes, we got them, and people are still unhappy. I can understand being reserved a bit. But all the negativity for what reason?

This will additionally bring out elements that keep opponents trying to either getting to Tony Romo, or trying to keep up with changes as they unfold on the field.

Screen passes, and play action would be much stronger a threat with a short passing game involving West Coast tendencies. Even here, a strong running game keeps linebackers either on their heels, or taking false reads on passing plays.

Dallas could see safeties taking false reads and wide open receivers on those '30 yard slants' with both Laurent Robinson and Jason Witten filling in behind a healthy pair of Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. That pair single covered could lead to YAC as found in Philadelphia and in New York.

Now, if Tony Romo's Jersey remains clean during games, the whole climate escalates...

with a return of Robinson and two added to the Cowboy's offensive line interior.
 
You can always get better, and I would be really surprised if Garrett brought in a proven, experienced offensive mind and didn't let him add some positive new dimensions to the offense.

Charlie Garner caught 91 balls in 2002. Now, Jason Witten is here, so the Cowboys backs have to compete with him and the other wide receivers for those balls. However, Felix Jones was a top 5 YAC player in 2010. Perhaps, Callahan can free Dallas' backs up more and give them a little bit more room to operate in.

Tony Romo should benefit, too. Romo's name is sprinkled all over your thoughts.

Romo will play at 32 next year, and keeping him upright and healthy is going to be critical for future success. Gruden and Callahan had Rich Gannon, and Gannon started his big time run of success around age 33. Gannon was a three time All-Pro for the Raiders and an NFL MVP.

Obviously, Romo is an accomplished player already, but the Raiders had significant playoff success and were really robbed by the "Tuck Rule".

When I read the threads title. I knew everyone couldn't be happy. Kinda funny and sad at the same time. I hope I'm not the bitter and if I gEt that way I realize it's time to move on.
 
Interesting...would have loved Sparano...but I wonder if what I'm reading is correct - i.e. Garrett still calling plays. If he's doing that, then I personally don't see the point...calling plays (more than saying run it or pass it) is what imho distracts Garrett to begin with, not the stuff Monday-Saturday.

But hey, you have give Garrett the chance to succeed or fail on his terms I think.
 
Got news for you people. The Garrett haters are just taking the carrot. This ISN'T CHANGING ANYTHING.

This just means the Callahan will be running Garrett's program when Garrett is walking around and looking at other things. Garrett will still call all the plays.

Changes nothing... window dressing.
