I knew we would win even when down 14-7. It was so obvious we were the vastly superior team it was pitiful.

Yeah, right! :laugh2:

It was probably 25 degrees where you live and you were sweating like you were wishing you lived in the USA!

Don't come here with that "I knew" crap!!

The score is to be expected considering the 2 turnovers. We clearly dominated this game. Romo was near perfect the first hapf and our offense was moving the chains at will. The first fumble, we were about to score. The second, it was close to mid-field.

It was just a wierd day.

The lesson though is we can clearly run the ball against a very good run team. We have no excuse just being a pass-happy team. Sometimes when you get one-dimensional in the pass, it is a recipe for turnovers...

Did anyone else feel like our staff decided, coming out in the second half, to just call off the dogs? Romo was dinged, the Crayton fumble was unfortunate - I think Wade and Garrett realized "Hey - we can do whatever we want against these guys. Let's just pack it in, run it down their throats, and get out with the win." We stopped chucking it all over the field, stuffed it down their throats and knew that Tavaris Jackson wasn't beating anyone.

The score says they won by 10, but that was flat out domination. The Cowboys doubled the Vikings in nearly every statistical category except the score, turning the ball over twice with fumbles in the second quarter. Basically, the Cowboys could do anything they wanted on offense, and only stopped doing so because Romo got dinged and they realized they didn't need to sling it, just stuff Barber down their throats.

Tavaris Jackson is not an NFL QB. I'm not sure how he ever got drafted, much less in the second round. He's not even "Kyle Boller" out there. I don't fault him for that throw to Wade, because that was a good throw. It was just a sick-er play by Roy Williams, who apparently never got the "He can't cover" memo from The Society for ******** Sports Commentary. But, he doesn't make reads, he doesn't get the ball out of his hands on time, and he is not accurate by any stretch. The Vikings had two drives where they moved the ball well, and Jackson had little to do with that.

Is Marion Barber the toughest mofo in the NFL? I think so. Gashed the Vikings #1 run defense for 90+ and iced the game when they knew we were running. It's what he does. He's a freak.

On to the bye week, and then back to kick Philly's duker horse. 6-1, FELLLAAAAASSSSSS!!!!!!!

Considering we came out of halftime losing 14-7, NO...I don't think we called off the dogs. If anything, I hope Wade and the vets chewed some butt at halftime about taking care of business and not letting the game get away from us like the one vs. Buffalo almost did.

How do you call off the dogs when you're losing?

Because the game was over.

The coaches knew all we had to do was get out of our own way, and get out there and dominate. This was not a competitive game. We stopped firing away, went conservative and won that way.

Go read the game thread from around halftime. I wrote we are clearly the vastly superior team and just have to come out and show it in the second half. All we had to do was take the gun out of our hand and stop point it at our feet.

25 degrees up here is 80 in your old fangled fahrenheit degrees. No it was not that warm, more like 11 celcius or 51-52. Check out the weather for the Seattle game and you will see what my weather was like.

Come on, Punk! You think the Vikes knew the game was over?

What about the eagles? You think they knew the game was over?

The game is not over until the gun sounds, period!

The second half game plan was to protect Romo from injury, not because the game was over.

Was the game over during the Bills game?

I think 'Calling off the dogs' is what everyone is getting caught up in.

They did in fact stop throwing the ball, because we really didn't need to. We tied it up in the early 3rd quarter thanks to a penalty on the punt. Then we blocked the field goal try to put us up by 7. After watching the Minnesota DTs go in early at halftime because they were gassed and the fact that both Jones and Barber were finding success against their DTs in the second half, we decided to pound the ball with Barber to put them down.

Crapping in late on this one, but I've read every post.

Just so I have this right, and DO correct me if I'm wrong...it is suggested Dallas called off the dogs, while they were behind, then, took a 10 point lead and resorted to a conservative game plan to secure the victory.

In my estimation, that is playing not to lose....and there are a whole lotta people here that despised that last year.

But now it's a good thing.

Alrighty then.

It's BEEN a good thing. We came out and out-talented and out-executed Minnesota in the second half. Some people lose sight of how great being able to do that is in their never-ending "scheme" tirades, but not this guy. ;)

This was one of my favorite games all year. We were down (when we shouldn't have been) and they just out-classed the competition.

Yes, we did pretty much whatever we wanted through the air in that 1st half statistically. Problem was, we ended up behind 14-7. Why? Because we kept self-destructing, gave the Vikes 1 TD & almost another while doing so.

At halftime this game was smelling decidedly like Buffalo 2 weeks ago (albeit less extreme) where we gift-wrapped a lead for them thanks to all of the turnovers and had to rely on the improbable at the end to win it.

So vs Minny, I think we went intentionally more conservative in an effort to avoid further gifts for the Vikes that could have possibly cost us the game.

I think the conservative 2nd half was much more about avoiding turnovers than keeping Romo safe.

Most of what we saw in Buffalo was just "one of those nights" and yet I think part of it was a reminder of Romo's somewhat reckless abandon style and his relative NFL game inexperience. I think the coaches are keeping a close eye on Tony and are willing to pull in the reins a bit (for him and the team) if it looks like things are getting a bit too frenetic.

Yep!

Something else...is this the first game where the Cowboys did not injure any players on the opposing team?

I absolutely hated that game! But, now I GET TO REST and not have to think about those damn Cowboys! :bang2:

Something special coming up....check it out!

First half:
Romo threw the ball 31 times or so. Barber had 4 carries.

Second half:
Romo threw the ball 8 times or so. Barber had 15 carries.

It reminded me of when a good sprinter is in a big race and gets beat out of the blocks. The best ones don't panic and tense up, which is the worst thing you can do. They just relax and run their race, knowing that their speed is going to overtake the guy by the finish.

I think some people are misinterpreting "calling off the dogs", as meaning that we just took it easy on them. What I took it to mean is that we didn't panic when we were behind. We just calmly went about our business, knowing that we were a superior team and that we'd win in the end.

Good summary. That's probably my fault, didn't take the thread title into account when posting, knowing that that's all some people read before posting in a thread. That's exactly what I meant. We didn't stop trying, or start loafing - we just scaled things back and let the markedly superior talent take over. Instead of getting cute and chhucking the ball ANOTHER 30 times in the second half, we just marched out and showed how much better we were than the competition.

Call it what you will - I call it an easy ***-kicking. That was gravy. There was nothing to be afraid of, ever. Now I know how other teams felt when we trotted out Hutch and Anthony Wright.

There are reports that Tavares injured his finger while trying to avoid the pass rush...if that makes you feel better. ;)
