And what in the name of God does that have to do with the pass rush Newman has had to work with during for the first four years of his career as compared to what "Pup" Smith did?

I thought so... absolutely nothing.

Well, let see. It had nothing to do with Newman, but you brought up sacks. The funny thing is you seem to be saying that I think Newman is crap. I'm not, he is one of the best in the league. He just isn't better than Kevin Smith was and he faced the best in the league and shut them down. Smith shutdown the epitome of receiving greatness. Those which ALL receivers strive. Even Irvin said he bows at the feet of Rice. If I remember correctly, (someone research I'm having trouble finding it) Smith held the great Jerry Rice to 1 catch for 7 yards! Rice had 1500+ yards and 15 TDs that season. He just didn't get them against Smith. Newman got his *** handed to him last year by Plaxico Burress. Between 92'-94' nobody dominated Smith and nobody dominated like Smith. Did Smith give up a TD during that time? I'm have no idea, but I'm willing to bet there weren't many if any.

If you want to try and look good and win this argument, just don't respond till after I leave at 5PM EST.

In that offense with that line and qb right now, I am not sure any corner currently playing can do anything to slow him down.

As mike shanahan said a number of times, No one has ever played the wr position like moss does. He gets off his feet better than anyone else in the league.

Moss is dedicated and playing hard right now. he will demand a double team at all times. that is why I am so worried about wes welker running free all day over the middle of the field when we play them. That and the fact that it should keep both safeties off the line of scrimmage allowing the pats to put brady in at tight end and just pound the ball.

Its a riddle trapped inside an enigma.

You seeem to be basing your entire argument on the 4 games that Smith covered Rice. Do I think Smith did a great job? You bet. But Smith benefitted from a defense that was overall far better than what Newman ever did. Newman gave up 0 touchdowns in 2005... Zero. That in itself is a terrific accomplishment given the poor pass rush offered by those players on the defensive line.

No, I'm not. I'm basing it on his domination during those years. His most prolific accomplishment was complete domination of the best receiver to ever play the game so in turn I stress it. I think Newman and Ware are the top two players on our defense just like Smith and Haley where back then. Funny how a top pass rusher and a top CB work in tandem. A pass rusher can get more sacks if a top CB like Smith or Newman. A CB can get more INTs if you have a monster pass rusher like Ware and Haley.

Newman is great, but I've seen him get beat. I honestly do not remember Smith ever getting beaten on a big play between 92' and 94'.

Moss at 100% vs Newman at 95% at best? I doubt it.

Moss is almost un-guardable just by his physical skills alone.

I thought you guys told me Moss's career was over?

you double him with Newman(experience and speed) with Pat Watkins (height)

The trouble is the Cowboys are not going to have Newman follow Moss. It just won't happen. The other problem is that the Pats have some many other weapons that doubling Moss every play isn't realistic without getting hurt elsewhere.

Wouldn't it be easy to compare sacks during the early 90's to those when Newman has played to see who had to cover longer and who had the better supporting cast?

Put Newman 1 on 1 with Stalworth.
Double Moss with Henry/Reeves and Hamlin/Watkins.

There is no way Newman could get away with the man-handling the refs allowed early-90s DBs to do on Irvin and Rice.

Also to note, there is no way Irvin would get away with the man-handling of the CBs today like he did back then. ;)

It's a way bigger advantage for DBs, since there weren't many Irvin's who could give better than they got. With Newman's speed and strength, in the 90s he'd have been god-like.

To be a Super Bowl champ, you have to take the biggest and baddest dogs, and stomp on their a****.

Cowboys of 91/92 simply walked into the stadium of the best team in football (made NE of today look like trash) with the best QB and WR, in HOSTILE territory and brought the pain to them, beat them up, ripped out their hearts, and played hop-scotch on their carcus.

Pup (aka Kevin Smith) went up against the biggest and baddest WR known to man kind (in his prime) and what did Kevin do, Kevin got up into Rice, and beat him, pulled on him, spit in his face, hit him in the groin, and just literally treated Rice like the goofy fat 4th string lineman on your junior high team he was only on the team because his daddy made donations to the school .

This is what we must do to the cheatriots. We must let them feel pain. As the quote goes in the movie "remember the titans" the defensive coordinator told his players "leave no doubt"!. Load up one side of that Dline and HIT/BEAT/SMACK Brady around all day. BRING THE PAIN!! Henry is very physical when playing bump and run, every snap, Henry needs to plant his fist right in Moss' chest and ride his arse and when Henry releases him to the secondary, if Moss catches anything or even attempts, Hamlin and Roy needs to plow over Moss or any of those receiver with heartless fury.

Whether we win or lose, we need to beat these boys up, badly.

That's my game plan! Play physical all day long and hit Moss every opportunity we have. You can say what you want but when a WR gets blasted across the middle it affects his game. It's the main reason Sean Taylor is effective. Receivers start looking for him instead of the football.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. It's gonna take a monumental effort to defeat the Pats. However, it's gonna take a monumental effort to beat the 'Boys, too.

This game will be decided by whoever can get the best pressure on the QB, turnovers, and penalties.

If we play a clean game and get heat on Brady we have a better than 50/50 shot at winning regardless of who is covering Moss- who will have his catches nonetheless.

I agree.

Patriots are good at finding ways to win too and if we have Flozell consistently jumping offsides, or a RB fumble, or something dumb they will punish us.

We can easily win that game. But so can they.

The best way to cover Brady to Moss is to give them looks that will confuse them and cause disruption to Moss's routes until the D-Line gets to Brady. That's why I vote we shadow Moss with Bobby Carpenter. :eyepoke:

I know you're just funnin', but that is an intriguing idea.

In the playoffs against Carolina, the Seattle defense basically put a LB on Steve Smith every play, to just beat the hell out of him for 5 yards, and then drift into a shallow zone. It was effective, it annoyed Smith tremendously, and Seattle won going away.

It might be a mistake to do that to a team with so many other options, but it's been done.

Didnt we shadow Steve Smith in Parcells second to last year here with Newman on every play?

The game where Smith got ejected for pushing Newman he was so frustrated...
