Tony said himself at a recent golf outing that he's working on a few things this offseason that he's interested in seeing translate into his play on the field. I never saw it covered in another thread, but did we spend time speculating on what those things might be already?

Two things ...

I think as his weapons disenigrate (sp?), so too will his gaudy stats. I mean, he's a darn good player, but it's aided by having Terrell Owens and Jason Witten. .

Most QB's stats would disintegrate with the loss of their best players.........

Yes, he can improve and so can the entire Offense, and they have to. Any time you keep your O-line intact you should have an improvement the 2nd year together. With a more productive running game (we hope) it should free him up to make more big plays. Those around him are better. He should be better.

Romo himself can improve because even though he had a very impressive year; he still had some down streaks.

Just my opinion, but he let the spotlight blind him. Not the way some people think with the whole he shouldn't have gone to Mexico stuff. I don't buy that crap at all. I'm talking about how he quit smiling and joking and being the fun loving QB that he had been earlier in the year. I think he tightened up. I don't think the girl or glare has anything to do with it. I believe if he wanted to just enjoy that part of the package too, he could have and should have.

Garrett is now more familiar with the job he has to do and Tony is more familiar with how to steer the dragster. Now he just has to mash his foot down and pay no attention to the anything but the finish line. If he does that, yeah, you bet he can improve. A lot.

I agree with the bolded part.

I know many point to him being like Farve in the idea of him just going out there and making the game seem like a game of backyard football. Just having fun and stuff.

However at times I get the feeling he is like Joe Montana...by that I mean I always remember the story of Joe in the Superbowl and the time is ticking down and the 49ers need to score. They are in the huddle in one of the most important drives for the team in the biggest game of the year and instead of some hyped of pep talk. He says to the guys...Did you see John Candy up there in the stands. That gave his guys the feeling that he was not stressed out and all was fine because his nerves were fine.

Tony towards the end seem to tighten up and I think the team felt it and did not feel like it was the normal Tony.

Sometimes when a person is one way and they change, they tend to press too much and it changes their games. Now granted, it was a brain cramp by crayton on that one play but still it was not the normal loose Tony playing out there. Sure the defense of the giants were killing the line and other contributing factors but he just seemed to be pressing and getting out of his element...or so it seemed to an average joe just watching the game.

I would sure like to think Tony can improve. He only has around what maybe 40 starts or so?

Straighten up the off the field stuff and keep the int's under control are my main concern.

JMO but this is a make or break season for players like Austin and Hurd. With TO getting older and Glenn's future in doubt we might need to invest big time in WR's next off season. Romo needs plenty of good targets.

That is what I kept wondering all last Dec. Did no one around him notice, or care, or were brave enough to just say "Tony where is the smile?" He looked so lost and cast off and not talking to the press, I'm glad to see that someone else noticed this too. I couldn't believe Jessica had that much to do with it, but I did feel it was something in his personal life. Another girl somewhere, or his Dad's illness' I just hope he has found all his answers and shows up this year with a happy attitude. I love the way he just says "I don't talk about my personal life" right up front. Maybe the press will learn to leave that alone and we will see a smile back.

# 1 with me is turnovers.. that is something he needs to improve on immediately and should be able to.. protecting the football is as important as anything else a qb does..

I just keep waiting for that other shoe to drop with Tony.

The other shoe may very well be when his Nationwide Celebrity Tour goes Global.

But seriously...

I think he needs to work on his deep ball - get it out sooner
I think he needs to run when its necessary

I think what you see is what you get with Romo - I dont see him getting SOOO much better... he is pretty good... will never be great

We're winning because of Tony Romo.

Dallas is once again legit because of him.

Way to early to say that because he is on his way to greatness right now.

Far to soon to say that. He is only 27 and been a starting for 1 1-2 years?

I think he can very much improve. And Ilove that he is a student of the game at all time. Does an interview and then interviews the interviewer for quarterback tips. Meets an old QB and immediately picks his mind. I love this about him.

The thing I think he has to overcome to truely cross a line into being great is he needs to grow up a bit. I love his enthusiasm and I definitely feel that what he does in his downtime is for him to do in his downtime. And he is young so enjoy being a top 5 QB on an NFL elite team. But eventually he needs to realize that celebrity hunting in midseason is going to be bad for the team. He will have to know that celebrity vacationing mid playoffs is going to come back on the team. These things won't effect his game, but every player will be asked about it effecting his game. And when you lose, those things will get bigger than they should. He has every right to do these things... he just needs to grow up and realize that maybe there are other negative side effects that his team, and he, doesn't need.

I guess. Favre wasn't taking 90 minute trips to Mexico, but he certainly had no issue with playing golf in the offseason. He just didn't play in US Open Qualifier, and that's probably because he wasn't good enough to do so. And for grounding Brett, he still was very reckless on the field, particularly in his latter years. The media liked to blow it off as "Brett having fun out there", but I don't think his teammates found it all that fun when he would throw another pass into triple coverage.

YAKUZA
How do you know he wasn't taking trips to Mexico, Canada, or somewhere across the country? Maybe he and Deanna don't have reporters camped out looking for just the right picture, and they've actually travelled a lot. Perhaps having children means that they don't travel much. Same with her cancer.

It doesn't matter to me that Tony took a trip. So did other teammates and they don't even get mentioned in the scrutiny because they were with their wives not their celeb girlfriends, are not the QB, or some other lame excuse. Hell, Tom Brady went to New York to knock boots with Giselle Bundchen and the media said little and the fans less than that.

The double standard about Mexico is big in my mind with Tony's frame of mind. He is still having fun on the field. He's not joking with reporters any more and he should be. Jumping in your golf cart and saying this interview is over when they ask you about singing at Wrigley isn't taking the stress off of him. He's letting it get to him and he shouldn't. Early on he could laugh off anything that the media brought up. Lately he hasn't been and he's so uptight about it that the team lectures a rookie about a totally harmless comment.

I agree. We've been spoiled by his play thus far, and tend to forget he's basically just getting started. He has a lot of room for growth and learning which is great.

No one denies that. Are you saying he therefore can't improve? Because that is the topic after all.

But isn't that exactly it? It doesn't matter at all to me that he took a vacation but it has been media and message board fodder ever since. A grown leader needs to realize that he and his team don't need that. Being a young quarterback is fine and he should get his chance to lounge in hot tubs with hot 19 year old college girls... but it will effect the team whether he has the right or not. A leader will recognize that.

Early in his stardom he'd have laughed about it and turned it back on the reporters, and because he did that it would be no big deal.

Now when they ask he clams up. That makes it a bigger deal.

No, he definetely can improve, but I think experience is the most valuable thing to his improvement.

The guy can be absolutely amazing at times and the more he see's on the field the better he will get.

As far as anything technical goes I think he can make some minor tweaks.

So Brad Johnson should really be improved this year since he has more experience.

Cool.

The scary part of the whole deal is Tony has a lot of room to grow and improve! How good is he going to be when the game slows down to a crawl, such as it has for Peyton and Brady? It's scary to think how good, maybe great, a QB we have on our hands. He has the ability to see the field like Jason Kidd see's the court.

IMO this kid is going to be great. I wouldn't trade him for any QB other than Brady, and would still have to think about that.

As far as the guys that said that TO and Witten make him better, there is a little truth to that, but how did TO, Glenn, and Witten work out for Bledsoe??

The more experience he becomes the better he will be. Tony has the skill level to do the job the rest comes with experience
