He doesn't have to though. That choice is his. I think he should turn on the ham even more.

Sure, but the issue is he'd have to be "on" 100% of the time -- we likely only see or hear about stuff that is either very amusing or out of character - so the 1 out of 100 times he gets a bit annoyed, you see it. But the 99 times he's friendly but doesn't give a particularly newsworthy response, we don't

Yeah, I wish that Tom Brady would stop posing for GQ, dating Gisele, and spending all his time in New York City. Clearly it has taken away from his ability to win.

Excuse me... we all know what has taken away his ability to win :laugh2:

That's why he has to clown it up even more. If he wants to "castrate" the media he has to do it with something sharp. Like his wit.

I think Romo has great intangibles. What he could improve on, such as turnovers and ball placement, I think he could gain with more experience. The other stuff he does...such as his downright masterful scrambling skills, pocket presence, etc, I don't think he really -needs- to improve. He's already good at it.

I think Jerruh should get on the phone w/ Favre and arrange for him and Romo to spend awhile tossing the football around and yucking it up in some way or another. Fishing, golfing, barbecue, something...Something that'll keep Romos head in the game, reinvigorate him a little, and get his mind off the media circus. That or perhaps spending some time back w/ his buddies from college. Maybe he just needs to get back to his roots a little.

Until the Cowboys win a SB with Romo at QB Tony will get questioned by the media and critics over any and everything he does. Danny White was a pretty down to earth laid back guy and the media and critics were constantly on his back. It comes with the job be it fair or not that is the life of a QB

Two things ...

I think as his weapons disenigrate (sp?), so too will his gaudy stats. I mean, he's a darn good player, but it's aided by having Terrell Owens and Jason Witten.

With that said, there's absolutely room for improvement. I don't think he's going to do much better than 4,000 yards and almost 40 touchdown passes, but I think we should (or hopefully should) see improvement in the latter parts of the season. To me, that's where he needs to make his strides.

He's a Hall of Fame player from August to November. He's downright average -- and at times below average -- in December and January.

If he can make that final leap, so too can the team, I think.

Doesnt every great qb have great weapons?

If Tom Brady and Peyton Manning work obsessively to improve each off-season, I sure think our QB has a lot of room for improvement.

I saw a piece on Tom Brady a year or so ago which showed him working with a QB coach in the off-season on nothing but his mechanics and getting the nose of the ball to turn over at a certain point on his long, downfield throws.
After watching the piece I had no more questions as to why or how Tom Brady is the QB he is today.

I hope Tony doesn't get too carried away with his Playboy lifestyle and continues to work as hard as Brady and Manning.

No. Some QBs have the ability to make their weapons be greater than they really are. Witness Tom Brady before 2007 for instance. Which of his WRs would you be dying to acquire? Deion Branch plays with a good QB in Seattle and is a shell of what he was with Brady. Alvin Harper killed people with Troy. He didn't even mildly injure people without him.

I think it's great that theo can wonder aloud if Tony is a less than finished product ... and the board doesn't have a meltdown. That's what I call progress. Looking back, I think Tony shut some people out due to the bombardment of questions about Mexico. Hell, even some teammates who didn't make the trip were getting the same questions. It's easier to cut people off than answer the same questions ad nauseam.

If you don't win it all it will not matter what Romo does or does not do in his personal life.

Way to early to say that because he is on his way to greatness right now.

He has already been great. The question now is, can he become even greater.

The double standard about Mexico is big in my mind with Tony's frame of mind. He is still having fun on the field. He's not joking with reporters any more and he should be. Jumping in your golf cart and saying this interview is over when they ask you about singing at Wrigley isn't taking the stress off of him. He's letting it get to him and he shouldn't. Early on he could laugh off anything that the media brought up. Lately he hasn't been and he's so uptight about it that the team lectures a rookie about a totally harmless comment.

I havent even noticed it until you brought it up. Thats a good point.

And the Martellus comment is funny to anyone not named Tony.

I hope he doesnt change his personality and everything.

If you watch that playoff game Tony Romo just didnt seem like the same guy from a character stand point.

I am not sure I understand your quote?

Are you saying, if he doesn't win it all, his career will be looked at as a failure?

That's what I am saying. As his star began to shine reporters asked him stuff and he laughed it off. No matter what they brought up, he could turn it into a joke. They lapped it up.

Now, when they ask stuff he is being evasive. So how are they reacting? Like there's chum in the water.

Hostile, I think you are being a little bit too concerned with his psych.

If he is more circumspect about his private life and doesn't joke about it flippantly as he might have earlier, if could be that earlier he only had to consider his own feelings in responding. When whatever is said may impact the feelings of someone else close, it could cause him to be more reserved, or even curt if the possible hurt to the other might be deep.

I expect jumping in the golf cart to get away from a question about his singing was not so much being evasive as as it was humorously sticking it to a reporter he is on good terms with.

:)

By some. Danny White career despite putting up some very good numbers by some is looked at as a failure. Myself I think teams win championships not QB's alone but there is no doubt without a SB he will not be looked at by many as a successful QB. For some greatness of a QB is measured by the rings he has I don't agree with it but that is what I hear from many

This thread has many twist and turns but this comment I agree with. He did this back last year when they would ask him about Carrie, he would just laugh and say "I'm out of here". He said the other day that all this publicity was just part of it when they were talking about "hard knocks" and he said "it will be fun, and laughed". I'm seeing more of the "sticking it to the press" than "being uptight". I also agree about protecting the other person, as I said else where, does he call her a liar, no he is a gentleman.
