Can you imagine Linehan replacing Kubiak, and Romo following?

Fwiw, maybe nothing, I've yet to hear anyone in the media think he could garner anything better than a 5th, given his age, injury history and salary. Fwiw, maybe nothing, I have to agree.

Or keep him and have the number 1 position on the team a huge strength. I would still rather keep him.

sure, if Tony is cool with that, which I doubt........would you really want to keep him if he wanted to be somewhere else starting? recipe for disaster no matter how professional someone can be.....

Understood but let me ask you this. If there was an open competition for the QB spot between Dak and Tony next year who would win the job? I don't even think it's close. Other than Tom Brady and maybe Ben Rothlsiberger I really believe Romo is the 2nd or 3rd best QB in the NFL and it is a crime to rush to turn the page on him.

I would keep Tony. He may end up replacing Dak at some point during a game if Dallas falls behind in a playoff game.
Dallas has lost 2 games to the Giants. Regardless, his value would go up if he plays some in playoffs and we win.

I know we want to do the right thing for Romo, but I hope Jerry just doesnt give him away. For the 5 million cap savings that could easily be spent on a lesser backup. Would love for the Cowboys to get a 2nd rounder, with conditions possibly turning into a first rounder for playing x percent of snaps and making the pro bowl, etc. Thats a dream scenario, but for a team like the Broncos that may be worth it if it gets them back into contention.
The savings are a lot more than 5mil if he's a June 1 cut. Hopefully a team pays up a high draft pick for him, though.

Based on what I've been reading, I don't think Texans make any big move until Osweiler's contract is less of an obstacle next off-season.

Actually, I've been kinda quietly cheering for the Broncos anyway ever since DWare ended up there. Since they're in the AFC not nearly as much conflict of interest. :) I could stand to see us play them in an epic SB LII.

I think his value would go up for being our starting QB again.

There will be several teams bidding for Romo. We better get something for him instead of releasing him.

Houston makes sense. Denver makes sense. IF KC loses a close playoff game and it is due to their QB being less than stellar they make sense. Miami could be the same. Buffalo might even make some sense. There will probably be an injury somewhere in training camp next year. I could even see the Rams being interested if they decide Goff needs time to learn and their new coach feels like they are in a "win now" mode. There is even a small chance Arizona could be interested especially if Arians feels like it his last shot.

Let the bidding begin.

This. It doesn't matter how professional Tony has been this season (and he has been very). If he genuinly wants to still be a starting QB, then he needs to be moved on.

i remember a very long time ago romo said it would not be the same to go elsehwhere and win a championship. in his eyes beeing plugged in a team ready to win it wouldnt feel the same to him. hes been a cowboy for a decade. hes been our strength and only hope. it means alot to him. but then again this was years ago when he didnt see the end so close.

Wade should not get consideration for the head coaching job. He is a good to very good DC, but he is not head coaching material. Never has been.

If I had to guess I would bet Kyle Shannahan gets an interview with the Broncos.

Kyle Shanahan with Romo at the helm will be very dangerous.

How about the other part of this equation... Linehan make sense in DEN?

Obviously, I think so... long history of them hiring proven OCs. Being able to use hiring Linehan as a carrot to attract Romo's interest seems to be a decent strategy, no?

That's the key. And of course it wouldn't be the same, but again, he wants to start. That's where the discussion begins and ends. I'm sure he'd rather compete somewhere else than be a backup here.

As long as we Trade him and not just release.....

Here are ramifications if Dallas trades or releases Romo:

1) If Dallas trades Romo - they absorb 19.6 million in signing bonus in 2017. Romo was set to make 24.7 million in 2017 so Cowboys would save 5.1 million if they trade him. I see nothing more than conditional pick for Romo as Dallas will have little leverage as Tony will only accept trade to few Super-Bowl ready teams.

2) If Dallas releases Romo they can spread 19.6 signing bonus over 2 years. 9.8 million would count against cap in 2017 & 2018. Dallas would save 14.9 million in 2017.

When you look at numbers its clear what Dallas should do. The additional 9.8 million in savings by releasing him instead of trading him (14.9 - 5.1) is much more valuable in resigning players or adding FAs vs getting a conditional pick that would carry high risk with Romo health concerns.
