Can you imagine Linehan replacing Kubiak, and Romo following?

JJ could do the following if allowed under league rules. Replace Linehan with Tony as Player Coach, and revert OC back to Garrett if in game situation calls for it, or just let Tony call the game from under center if called into duty ( assumes he stays and is back up )

The problem with Denver is that Elway is terrible at spotting QB talent. Which is surprising for an ex-QB. Look at his recent record - Osweiller, Simien, Lynch.

As Elway has a very inflated view of his own abilities he'll continue to pursue the 'next big thing' and get bust every time. He would be better served accepting his own limitations and trusting his scouts/coaches.

Nice observation. He pulled in Manning. Got his SB, now its just hunt for the next version of himself to get another one..... So far that doesn't look promising

If we cut Tony we had better not do it any time soon. Or expect Snyder to sign him. Do not want Romo with all those weapons in Washington. That would be the nightmare scenario, not Denver.

It depends. A June 1 release saves quite a bit more than trading him.
Cap money from other contracts can be deferred instead, then there would be no dead Romo money in 2018. Same difference, so make a trade

A. You get Romo out of the NFC so you don't have to compete against him in the playoffs unless its the SuperBowl.

B. You got to do right by Romo for what he has done for this franchise, that means sending him to a super bowl caliber team that just needs a QB, so Denver fits. Jerry is not going to send Romo to some scrub NFL wasteland team like the Browns or Jags, he is just not going to do that to Romo.

You don't send him to a wasteland, but you don't send him to a superbowl contender who has already won a superbowl and just 'theoretically' snagged our offensive coordinator. You respect Romo, but not to the extent that you disrespect everyone else on the team by handing another team the pieces they need to win a superbowl.

He is owed ZERO guaranteed money......nada....zippo...nothing

His 14m base salary is a team option

If a team traded for him they would have to pay him 14m if they kept him for 2017 but they could also renegotiate for more guaranteed than 0m and less base salaries in 2017-2019
I stand corrected. Good to know.

Osweiller and Siemien stand in direct opposition to the premise... both rose above original expectations and became starting NFL QBs. Jury remains out on the one just drafted. Just sayin.

Not to mention he let Osweiller walk which is proving to be a good decision, aka good QB evaluation.

They're gonna call Dak the King Slayer or the Legend Killer. This year he's gonna beat Brady and the Patriots in the Super Bowl and Brady's career will fall off a cliff starting next year. And next year he's gonna beat Romo and the Broncos in the Super Bowl and Romo's career will be over after that. Good night. Who's next?

Works for me. But let's be honest for a second: IF we lost in the first round, can anyone honestly say this kid still didn't have a great year? Most of us thought this team MIGHT won 8 or 9 games with Tony! I mean some people need to get a grip IMO

I think Denver will stick with their two young QBs. They will go after offensive and defensive linemen in both free agency and the draft. They may go after Leary.

Then again... to be fair... it was widely reported that he made a strong offer to try to keep him.

No one is perfect where it concerns player evaluation. You just hope that your GM has competent people advising him, and that when he makes decisions, he's right significantly more often than he is wrong... knowing that he is going to be wrong sometimes.

I think Linehan is going to be safe personally.

You're not seeing a lot of buzz and there are only 6 vacancies. A lot of times teams like to name their coach sooner rather than later so a long playoff run could preserve his spot here even more.

Regardless, I don't think he leaves similar money to go to a dumpster fire. He should know enough now to pick his spots considering his past failures. Denver is the only spot but I think Elway will pick a coach with AFC experience.

Osweiler walked on his own. Elway was offering nearly an identical contract as the one Osweiller signed. I think getting benched last season made Osweiller want to get a fresh start.

Interesting. Wonder if Wade gets any consideration. His defense really won the SB for Elway. Tony might still be interested.

Wade is one of those guys who is a better coordinator than head coach, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I think he also didn't want to be the guy following a legend after a SB win - nowhere to go but down.

Wade isn't a head coach, he admitted in an interview a couple of years ago he was a lousy head coach. Teams make the mistake of getting him away from what he does best and that's coach defense. He coached the Broncos years ago and couldn't win with John Elway as his QB.
