fine. but so far he's the best bet we had for a 1st round pick. young and more proven than any currenty shiney object in the draft regardless of hype around the unknown.

how many 1st round WRs have lived up to that expectation? why is what we don't have always better than what we do to so many?

williams stepped into a totally dysfunctional team, so i'm not gonna go "bad roy" when the entire team sucked cowfluff last year.

some people just can't get out of fantasy land.

In the spirit of the OP's intent, yes that would have been pretty awesome. Regardless of what we would have needed, it would have been awfully fun gearing up for it.

I love the fact that we've got 11 picks and relatively few needs but it's not as fun when you're not picking till the 50s.

Looked at the age on the O line?

We got needs......

You thinking Roy is a victim of circumstance is fantasy.

He got outplayed by Charles Johnson in Detroit, granted Johnson is a great player, but I just don't know if Roy is deserving us all these excuses we've been giving him.

Have you? Who is old on the o-line besides Flo?

Not a matter of age. Unless you want to go through the Proctor experiment again, we better make some moves.

you need to back the stupid truck up a bit and read what i said.

DID I SAY ROY WAS THE VICTIM?
no.
DID I SAY ROY OUTPLAYED *ANYONE*?
no.

if you want to argue against some mythical stereotype - go right ahead. just don't reply to me when you do it, but if you must, reply to what i said, not the common mantra you're pissed at.

i said the cowboys sucked last year in regard to teamwork. am i wrong?
i said roy stepped into a dysfunctional team, am i wrong?
i said roy is at least proven moreso than the "can't misses" in the draft. am i wrong?

stick to what i said and quit pretending i said something else.

It very well may not be. But my response was to the on-the-surface ridiculous assertion that our O-line is old. There are a lot of ways to effectively make this point-- that's definitely not one of them.

My original statement was pretty inocuous, I think: we have relatively few needs. Most years, we're looking at more total holes to fill and more impact-player needs. Sure, we've got holes to fill but I don't think there are 11 of them. And I think you could probably count the number of glaring needs on 1 hand.

A GM, Head coach, Offensive coach, defensive coach and something else than Rowdy... That's one hand.

Oh you mean players....? :p:

plus the fact that Detriot might have put the franchise tag on him and the price might have been higher, especially with other teams in the mix

That's the key! Many people/media looking to bash the trade do not acknowledge this simple fact.

Detroit had no reason to just let Roy walk. They would've had the money and tag availible for him.
He would've been tagged and traded for no less than a 2nd rd pick in this draft.

Not so sure it would've taken only a 2nd, but assuming it did. That would mean we paid a premium of about a mid 2nd to get him a half year early and under perhaps a slightly better contract.

so what, you wouldn't know for sometime how the rookies would pan out. I would rather have Roy Williams than Carpenter.

the odd part is most people seem to want the picks more than the players. i know i love to draft, it's why i play 10 ESPN FFL teams - just for the draft and to make the moves. it's fun.

but it's also "fantasy football" and the real world doesn't do that. if some shiney player comes along you can trade for him in madden and be happy another name is on the jersey but the play will be only as good as the player.

we don't have too many 1st round picks we're proud of now but damn it to hell, we need that pick every year just so we can pick someone regardless of teh value of what we did in fact get for that oh so fun pick.

amazes me.

What I said was...

Roy was sucking before he got on our team.

Then you, as usual, got all emotional.

Roy might be better than any receiver that we could have picked up with our 1st, but he might not be better than the 3 BPA's that we could have picked up with our 1st, 3rd and 6th.

and you, as usual, assume my meaning.

did i say roy didn't suck or that he stepped onto a team that sucked?

you're making assumptions i'm not making then pretending i did.

i'm still not gonna go "bad roy" just because you don't seem to like him. the entire team has a chance to "start over" next year and that alone gives me hope.

hela-clowns who get off on slamming their favorite target then ASSuming that just because someone else doesn't slam the player they approve of them.

back it up and talk football and quit making crap up to talk about.

At the time probably so.

Nobody really makes trades like that during the season.

The Roy11 trade was probably the biggest trade there has ever been during the middle of a season.
Perhaps you've never heard of the Herschel Walker trade.....

I didnt miss your point. Your point is we could have had more picks.

You then go on to say we need another WR. We have one in Rw11.

So in summary. You just didnt like the RW trade/picks.

Got it!
No you didn't get it. My point wasn't that we would have more picks. That's a given. My pt is that I love prepping for the draft. Reading draft mags and doing mock drafts. Watching what vids I can on the net and reading the "experts" opinions.

It's one of my favorite things in all of sports - the NFL draft. It just takes a little of the fun out of it for me when we don't have a first and that extra 3rd and 6th to play with.

As far as the trade I actually like it. I'm a big fan of Roy and a UT fan. I actually have a Roy #4 UT jersey! I'm thrilled to have him on the team and don't think outside of MAYBE Crabtree we couldn't get anyone of RW's talent at #20.

Absent the trade, TO would still be a Cowboy. That's depressing enough.

Utilizing the 3rd round pick we gave to Detroit to trade up in the first round with the 20th pick, still wouldnt have been enough to be able to select Crabtree or Maclin.

Neither of which is in the category of talent of RW11.
