If Drew could wrap his mind around the short passing game and had a little more pocket presence and ability to sidestep the rush I really do think he would have gone down as one of the greats.

I don't think anyone can argue the he is not a leader or doesn't exude the confidence a QB is supposed to in the huddle. And he is world class with the deep ball.

But his ability to go through progressions quickly was always a sore spot and he shows little touch on short passes. He's almost the anti-Montana in that regard.

For what was available when we needed it he was a good pickup for us and I'm not at all disappointed in his play.

But he's shuffled between 3 teams now for a reason.

No question. He is a leader. I'll never say otherwise.

It's his lack of quick decision making and and release that doom him to be in the ranks of "good" but never "great"-- which isn't a crime. Only so many can be great.

Where are all the negative stats like sacks and fumbles?

Where are wins and loses?

Marino
Manning
Fouts
Moon
Stauback
Aikman
Kelley
Farve
Unitas
Bradshaw
Griese
Stabler
Young
Montana
Tarkenton
Elway
Brady
Manning

All are or were better than Bledsoe.

If Bradshaw was on crappier teams he would have been no better than Bledsoe, perhaps much worse.

Other than that....

But saying he's not as good as the best 20 or so QBs you can think of is still not that bad a thing.

No, it's not a bad thing. Like I said, the guy is good but not great... no crime in that. But he's gotten there more through longevity rather than being able to string together a few outstanding seasons.

Longevity has its plusses too. Guys like Archie Manning or Brian Griese wouldn't get the recognition they do unless they hung around as long as they did.

The problem with Bledose is expectations. Number 1 overall draft pick, some amazing seasons in NE and Buffalo when he had good talent around him and when teams hadn't figured him out yet, and the natural desire of every fan that their QB be superhuman.

Bledsoe is that guy who is so close to being elite that you expect it from him, but he never quite delivers.

AS long as you can see that and understand it when he fails, its not the end of the world having him lead your football team. You just need to get the pieces in place around him.

You're absolutely right. He is what he is. A good QB that strung together a nice career but doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the others that I listed. He's a cut below... which isn't shameful.

If we lose or don't make the playoffs I could give a crap if he gets his all time QB rating or not. Minus the playoffs it is a failed season.

Archie Manning threw like 40 more picks than TD's in his career.

Bledsoe started as #1 overall for Parcells at age 20 and Parcells brought him in at age 33. Thats enough for me - and he's top 5 all time in most all stats when its set and done...

I'll tell you one thing - Bledsoe has elevated bad teams on his arms with liltalent...and some of the greats have not been able to do that without the great "cast"

What big games do you remember him rallying his team in?

What major records does the guy hold?
School me please....

1) Most OT Touchdowns in NFL History (4), 2nd best=2
2) Most Attempts and Completions in NFL History (1994, his second year). Gannon may have broken one of the records 8 years later in '02
3) 4 Straight wins to end his rookie year (including eliminating Miami in 1993)
4) 7 Straight wins to end his 2nd year 1994 (playoffs)
5) First round bye and Super Bowl in 1996
6) 8 TDs 0 INTs to start 1997
7) Consecutive game-winning drives with a broken finger versus division leading Buffalo and Miami in 1998
8) 6-2 stari to 1999
9) AFC Championship win off bench in 2001 vs #1 defense (Pitt)
10) 10 franchise records in first year for Buffalo in 2002
11) Top 10 in Attempts (5) Completions (5) and Yards (7)
12) Top 20 in TDs (14)
13) 34 Game Winning drives (around #6 all time)
14) 4-3 Playoff record

Again nice numbers. He qualifies as being good... in a couple years very good. But he never had that "great", "kickarse" kind of year and his career overall was good.

Of the past 6 seasons (and perhaps more), this is the failed season I blame least on the QB and who played it.

Faint praise, for sure, but for the first time in a while I personally don't consider it the biggest problem on the team.

I wouldn't be blaming the QB at all.

I'm saying if we miss the playoffs I don't care one bit about individual accomplishments. Especially one as meaningless as highest ever QB rating.

My reaction...

Whoop-dee-freaking-doo.

That and 75 cents will buy him a can of soda pop.

Believe it or not Norsey... Fouts career started when there were only 14 games played per season AND the passing rules were far more beneficial to the defense.

Maybe someday when you have the time I'll teach you a little about how the rule changes have affected the passing game over the last 30 years. ;)

To believe a "Fouts" playing in 2005 couldn't put up better numbers than Drew would be well... goofy.

No arguement sir.

But useful for consideration when we consider what must be done to avoid failing again next year.

Stats, shmats. I watched Dan Fouts with my own eyes. He was sick.

THere is no comparison, I don't care what the numbers say.
