He hasn't played well since returning from his injury but man it's crazy what has happened with the chemistry in the locker room the last few games. I'm surprised some people still think Carter is going to be resigned here. He continues to find himself in the doghouse.

LONDON - Bruce Carter played 34 snaps against Washington after missing the previous three games with a strained quadriceps.

He did not record a tackle.

Perhaps, that’s why he played just 16 snaps against Arizona.

He finished with three tackles, but played 11 fewer snaps than backup Kyle Wilber.

“It’s very frustrating,” Carter said. “My mom told me to control what I can, and that’s what I try to do. Hopefully, everything else will work itself out.”

Carter said he wasn’t told during the week that his playing time would decrease.

“I don’t know what it is,” he said. “It’s my job to play when they tell me to play. I’m just going with the program.”

Understand, Carter’s performance has perplexed the coaching staff many times because he has every physical tool you want in a linebacker, but the production hasn’t matched his physical prowess.

There are times he has been dominant and times he’s disappeared. Occasionally, it has happened within the same game.

The Cowboys wanted to draft weakside linebacker Ryan Shazier, but Pittsburgh took him one pick before the Cowboys drafted. They happily settled for Zack Martin.

“We’ve been playing a lot of different guys at linebacker, and Kyle Wilber has deserved some opportunities to play,” coach Jason Garrett said. “We’re going to play the best guys. When you have a few different options that’s good for your team.

“When you create competition for roster spots or playing time that’s a good thing. We’re going to keep rotating things to see who wants it more and who deserves it more.”

I dunno what the tape said about his performance, but I do know that Ro McClain has had a couple of off games. I think it's the conditioning, though.

I posted before that I don't think Marinelli likes Carter very much. Marinelli often heaped praise on Durant, but when questioned about Carter it seemed like indirect criticism.

I think it's a trust issue with Carter. Marinelli does not know which Bruce Carter he will get from week to week. Maybe he needs to go talk to Carter's mom and tell her to tell him to man up.

Yeah, I don't think Carter is going to be resigned.

I'll second that.

The light seemed to be coming on for him prior to his latest injury, but he's been invisible since his return.

Given the number of other re-signings coming up this offseason, I see "little room at the inn".

True.

Bringing an "on-IR" Durant to London tells me the Cowboys would like to have him back next season.

At this juncture I could see the LB corps next season being:

Durant
Lee
McClain
Wilber
Hitchens
"Rookie"

Yes, if they're not taking other players on IR, but are taking Durant, that says something.

I agree that the most likely starting combo is Durant, Lee and McClain for 2015. Hitchens will then replace whoever is injured and will play most of the season.

i don't think the LB coach likes him much either. carter plays with questionable effort.

The fact that Carter would even complain to the media is probably evidence of him not being a Marinelli/Garrett type of player. This is the 2nd time at least that he's made that type of complaint to the media.

This is also the second time he has referenced his mother and her advice. I stopped taking advice from my mother when I was 19.

It seems as though it's always something with Carter. There's probably a good reason why Marinelli made the comment earlier this year that he "doesn't do confidence stuff." Carter needs to quit making excuses for his poor play, man up, get his head right and produce or else he'll simply have to step aside and eventuallly be replaced by physically less-talented others like Kyle Wilber. It's too bad but Bruce Carter looks to be living proof that what lies between the ears is every bit as important as what's below them.
