I wish they doubled down and drafted telvin smith in the 5th rd instead of Street. But yeah you're right there is going to be a mutual departure with Carter this offseason and they will use one of our first 3 picks on another linebacker.

He should be frustrated. The dude was playing lights out and gave it everything he had on the long run when his quad popped!

If we keep Wilber in there instead of him get ready to be exposed!

More like the way Carter has played has been terrible, relative to his draft position and expectations. He obviously hasn't shown that he can consistently get the job done enough that he deserves more snaps. Looks like he'll have a shot elsewhere next year. On the brighter side, that leave some money for us to sign our other FAs.

Carter has been inconsistent, no doubt. But the fact that half the time, he has no idea why he's being punished is not good. At the very least, someone should be pulling him aside and breaking down EXACTLY what he needs to be working on. It's basic coaching, and it's not like it has to be Garrett doing it, but someone should be.

Does anybody seriously think that Wilber is a better option at this point?

Hitchens has made Carter expendable.

Rather Carter has made Carter expendable.

But I'll give some cred to the rook here.

Amazing all the stuff that starts popping up when you lose a couple of games.

Whether Marinelli likes him or not, the way we've handled Carter is terrible. In his shoes, I wouldn't want to come back here.

exactly.

When we win everything is so great. If we lose suddenly the chemistry in the locker room is in question just because 1 guy did not get the snapcount he expected.

If people could keep things in perspective. All this NFL and Media hyping just to make money out of nothing is so disgusting.

He's the best option for getting Carter to play to his potential. That's all that really matters.

Carter's never going to play to his potential, and it's a shame. He's probably the most gifted overall athlete on the team but can't beat out a 4th round draft pick. This has been the story of his career outside half a season in Rob's 3-4.

There's absolutely no way he's on the team next year.

And if Carter's "confused" as to why he isn't getting playing time, where is he during film study? Is he asleep? A deaf mute? People actually believe that Marinelli, one of the most respected defensive coaches in the league, who's gotten more love from ex players than most coaches I've ever seen, hasn't tried to get Carter to reach his potential?

Either he doesn't care, or he's not mentally capable of handling the responsibilities of an NFL LB to the degree of which he's expected. Honestly, with all the stuff coming out about UNC, neither would really surprise me.

True.

Bringing an "on-IR" Durant to London tells me the Cowboys would like to have him back next season.

At this juncture I could see the LB corps next season being:

Durant
Lee
McClain
Wilber
Hitchens
"Rookie"

Durant, Lee and McClain. Best starting LB group in the league, bar none.

No, no one should.

What we need to consider is: Do the defensive coaches favor a consistently average Wilbur to an inconsistently unpredictable Carter?

If Carter wants more playing time it really is on him. If he gets out there and is hustling and making plays Rod is not going to take him out of the game. Only when Carter takes his head out of the game is when he will find himself sitting on the bench. We did this last season and he found his time cut, he had a good camp came out and played great and he stayed on the field. All I can say is if Carter wants more time then earn it.

Maybe, or conversely, he might need more game reps to regain his pre-injury form, don't know.

Impossible to say. Given the guy's history of playing better after getting motivated by losing playing time, I'd gamble on that rather than on the other. But if the issue is returning from injury, the extra time and the limited reps probably helps him, too.
