CB Fred Smoot not signed with Commanders - yet

Say what you like. He is younger and better than Kenny Wright or Mike Rumph. This is an improvement for the Skins. Plus, he's a huge fan favorite. Very happy day in DC!

He's marginally better than Kenny Wright (who isn't very good), and saying he's better than Mike Rumph means nothing. Who isn't better than Mike Rumph? None of these guys can cover Owens, Glenn, or Crayton.

This is funny. All those guys at extremeskins that said he sucked and were glad to see him go now have to spin it as a positive that he is back. This is fallout of modern day cap hell. They had no chance to sign a FA CB that actually had a good year last year so they had to settle for an old reject that actually got benched last year. Personally I don't think he is a big upgrade over who they have now, they all suck!!!

Rogers will be a starter, no question. Couple scenarios for Smoot:

1. Springs stays and moves to SS. Smoot starts at CB.

2. Springs stays and starts at CB. Rogers starts at CB. Smoot is nickel CB.

3. Springs leaves. Smoot and Rogers at CB.

4. Springs leaves. Smoot/other new CB starts opposite Rogers.

Actually, they didn't trade Smoot. They fought tooth and nail to resign him and Antonio Pierce two years ago. They left for more money. He was the hottest CB on the market in 2005.

......and he proved to be a monumental bust for the Vikings in 2005 & 2006.

Now not only is he damaged goods and not only is he another year older but he has re-signed with the Commanders (for a huge contract no doubt) where freakin' Antonio Bryant used to routinely make him his *****?

Springs was your best CB when healthy. Smoot over Springs would be a huge downgrade in your secondary. You would now have 3 players in your secondary who can't cover!

I said it the other day:

In the last 3 years, the Commanders have aquired Shawn Springs, Carlos Rodgers, Sean Taylor, lost Fred Smoot, regained Fred Smoot. Holy carousel at secondary, batman.

The reason I point this out - something about that pattern just strikes me as bad managing. It just shows how out of whack their front office is.

Actually, they might not have had to overpay for him seeing as how the market for Smoot was probably close to non-existant.
